Realistically, what would it take for east and west to reunite? Will it ever happen?

It would require one or both to compromise on their theology

No, it won't happen.

The orthodox were close to uniting with Anglicanism, but a huge modernist movement rose up against the union and changed it to the female bishopry that it is today.

Same will happen if Roman Catholics come too close.

Rome would probably get veto powers and other perks to settle pan-church issues, and keep everyone together, but not the ultramontanist stuff we have today.

The movement bogged down long before then, because the Anglican Communion is a clusterwinnie the pooh of cathprot currents and theologies, and the notoriously dogma abiding orthodox bishops 404'd on seeing there was no coherent principles to smooth out.

I wouldn't say long before, as it was gradual. However, I am not of the opinion that their attempted union had no effect or that the Roman Catholics aren't just as much of a mess. As you said, anyone who cares for the church does not want union at the cost of spirituality.

I believe ecumenism is a paper tiger and a failed project in its very conception, I do not believe it threatens the church. Other heretics, let's say gnostics, actually cared for their worldview and church - unionists don't.

How did the gnostics die out? I hear many different narratives about this, usually either they were killed or just ceased reproducing because they thought creation was evil.

They can't even achieve Latin Mass Catholic and Novus ordo Catholic unity.

My example was terrible, do not get hung up on it.

They eventually changed their names from the greek gnosis to the latin equivalent scientia.

Science was an explicitly Catholic thing until recently. Are you saying Catholicism became gnostic after the schism?

Stop being univocal with terminology, it's an error. I won't answer because it would derail the thread.
