it is a scientific hypothesis that will take a billion years to test, making it for practical purposes, a logical conclusion where the premises and logic can be called into question.

I'd give the Systematic Index in the Book "The Sources of Catholic Dogma" by Father Denzinger in the section "The Mutual Relationship Between Reason and Revelation" I e to support my position.
Father Denzinger give the Church position on science and nothing says that science must be denied because of faith, quite the opposite.
