The first "airhead" preacher, maybe? No wonder why he's popular with Hollywood. This guy is siding with murderers and thieves. Not what he thinks. If he thinks at all.
And he wasn't much of a preacher before this either. I recognize him from an older clip on Oprah awhile back. His stance there was more wishy-washy than even Joel Osteen, if that's even possible. When put on the spot, he couldn't commit to Christ being the only way to God. Just talk about Jesus being one of many ways. We've seen these guys before. Their general message is a very personalized religion, with Jesus as a buddy guru centered on helping people find "meaning" in their lives. They don't care about the meaning of Jesus' life or the meaning of the Kingdom, let alone giving up their lives. It's all about them.
As for slavery and racism, all of the Abolitionists were Christian. Abolitionism wouldn't have even existed without the Church. It was worldly merchants, corrupt nobles, Muslims, and Jews pushing the actual slave trade. And the most famous hymn of modern times was written by the captain of a slave ship who repented (Amazing Grace). He wasn't Christian before. He was only a Christian after he repented. Just because he was part of a culture of "Christendom" doesn't mean these were all Christians back then. You're only a Christian from a new birth. Your culture doesn't magically save you from hell or make you a Christian. Not even a culture of Christendom. No man can see the Kingdom of God unless he is born from above. This was true then and true now.
