I was discussing with a person on another board. I said I think when the Bible says forgive your enemy this doesn't only mean people who have wronged you according to some law. This person kept saying if they haven't wronged you according to some law they haven't done anything wrong and therefore isn't your enemy so what is there to forgive. Also if enemy just means someone who has wronged you then the definition of "to wrong someone" is:
1a : to do wrong to : injure, harm
b : to treat disrespectfully or dishonorably : violate
2 : defraud —usually used with of wronged them of their land
3 : discredit, malign
In other words, not necessarily breaking any law, whether human law or "God's law". There was also another person who said if the other person hasn't broken any law they aren't your enemy and you have no right to be angry at them. What does this even mean? It looks like a logical fallacy to me. To say that you have no right to be angry at those who haven't broken any law and therefore aren't your enemy implies that you do have a right to be angry at those who have broken some law and therefore are your enemy. But those are the ones you are supposed to forgive… In this context I think it's interesting that I heard a Buddhist nun say that in the West we think a little bit of anger is sane but in Buddhism the view is that any amount of anger is a mental sickness. I think when the Bible talks about enemy this isn't defined by anything outside of your mind. Your mind defines what is an enemy. An enemy is simply anyone you have unforgiveness towards, i.e. anyone who you perceive to be causing difficulty for you in any way or anyone you hate or dislike.

Much harm can be done without breaking any commandment. This is the kern of Chrit's condemnation of the Pharisees.

It could even be an enemy in something as remote as, say, politics. Not someone who personally wronged you, but an ideological enemy. We must never forget to pray for these enemies as well.
I ran across this video last night actually and this woman is a great example. Believe her vision or not, the point is that we should pray for even political enemies.

I'm charged with crime and have trial soon. I really don't know how I can forgive everyone that was there the day I got arrested, and all the lawyers I've talked to. I hate them so fûcking much. This will probably fûck up my whole life, jobs, travel, everything fûcked for life.

You forgive them spiritually, but they still have to bear consequence for what they did both through human law and God's law.

Its a nice cross for you to bear, join your suffering with Christ's. Harboring resentment will be bad for your soul.

This is such a bulls- concept. Why don't Christians ever get that you can actually have enemies who didn't break any law? You can even have enemies who enforced the law. When I talked to my lawyer about people avenging he even said something like "we (the state) are the ones to do that". So the whole thing about not avenging is bulls- because apparently it's perfectly fine as long as a few people gather together, write a few words on a piece of paper and say this is the law.

If you are oppressed by phony human laws then they'll have to face God's law anyway.

I don't think this is really relevant. Laws are different in different places and times. I read some article recently some politician in America said how the Taliban state treated women was criminal. I don't think forgiving is only about those who break some law. And then I don't understand why some are supposed to forgive and others aren't, while some like you call it different names like "forgive spiritually while still making them face consequences" etc. I think even if you committed a crime and sinned, and even if everybody agrees with this, the state, Christians, priests, the Bible, everyone, these can still be your enemies, and people you really struggle to forgive. This annoys me when I talk about this subject with Christians, because they always assume that the enemy you have to forgive is a sinner or criminal, it seems to never ever have occurred to them that it could also be you that are the sinner or criminal and the enemies are people who are acting according to laws or scripture etc. They always refer to the quote "forgive them father because they don't know what they are doing", but it never occurs to them that they might actually know what they are doing and still be your enemies. The Bible says those who are chosen by God are hated by people, so maybe God chooses people by planting "evil" in them, i.e. making them sinners, criminals, or mentally disordered. Michael Laitman said Jews have a bigger ego than others.

Instead of posting a new thread I'll ask here. How on Earth do I forgive those who are giving me a criminal record, ruining my life? Even if I am guilty, not saying I am, but even if I am, how on Earth do I forgive those who are ruining my life by giving me a criminal record, possibly ruining jobs, travel, etc for the rest of my life. I hate them so fûcking much.

By remembering the truth. That this world and almost all the things in it will pass away, and through Christ we inherit eternal life in His Kingdom.
And this is part of our faith and our hope. That God will walk with us and wipe away every tear from our eyes, and that the things we may go through here will not be there.
To compare the trials of this life is akin to comparing a tough 60 seconds of our childhood compared to the adults we are now. However, this goes much further as eternal life will not end.
And this is why it's important to forgive them. For there may be a time that God also calls the people that have wronged you, that they may too believe in Christ and be gifted with salvation. And that they too would be partakers in eternal life.

And how do you know they don't believe in Christ? Maybe they do. They almost certainly think that I'm a sinner and that they are doing God's work punishing me. Even if it's true it doesn't help me forgive them.
