I don't get it. So Christ says not to commit adultery in our hearts by lusting, but how is that possible especially for males? Because when I see a beautiful woman I literally have no control over my attraction towards her especially if she has a good face and body with nice curves and waist and breasts and hips and legs and yes the buttocks too (I'm trying to be as tame as possible here). It's impossible for me not to notice her in that way. So isn't "lust" an essential part of attraction? Especially for males since the physical looks of a woman is what primarily attracts us males. I don't get it. Like yeah I want to have sex with a girl I'm attracted to, otherwise I wouldn't be attracted to her and no offspring would be produced…

I think the point is resisting sin is a meme so you have to put yourself in a position where it's not possible to sin, such as having a wife to fukk instead of fapping. Taking Jesus seriously about sexual thoughts is as dumb as taking Him seriously about turning the other cheek. He was joking but it's more convenient for corporate assholes if they convince us He was serious. That's probably why there's an autistic war against sarcasm. Just be rational. God gave you a peepee to reproduce.

<Matthew 5:28

<But I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

The issue is looking to lust. You could say indulging lust.

It is more helpful to define lust as the sexual impulse which you can either indulge or control. If youre minding your own business and inadvertentlyy see a teen in a bikini that makes your pp hard you are not sinning. If you stop and fantasize about the same bikini woman you are looking to lust.

Also, it is implied that the object of the list is someone you're not married to. You can look to lust after your own wife.

If you have a high libido and struggle with lustful temptations often the advice of the Bible is to get married and have sex.

Perhaps I should've phrased my post better. Jesus was exaggerating. He was absolutely serious about lust and violence being grave sins. But He doesn't want you to literally chop your hand off or ask your enemies to hit you, despite saying those things. It's like the old saying that masturbation will make you blind. It's not literally true but it conveys the graveness of the matter. It's convenient for corporations to turn us into doormats which is why they even quote the latter parts of Matthew 5 with their context removed in their training videos. Does that make more sense? I think the Bible is reliable but we have to consider the tone and context of what Jesus says when interpreting it as well as other parts of the Bible. I know you're Protestant but Sirach 12 says to not do good to evil men which would seemingly contradict the literal interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount meaning as a Catholic I have to reconcile the two which is easy considering in context with the rest of Matthew 5 the doormat stuff is just one exaggeration among many others although the spirit of the Sermon condemning violence and revenge is correct. I know it's still not exactly Baptist friendly because I cited Sirach but I hope it makes more sense than my terse first comment which is lacking a lot of explanation.

So if in Jesus' second coming He says people who voted Democrat should stick a fork in an outlet, should we force all converts who were former Democrats to stick forks in outlets? No, because He's obviously being facetious to make a point. It reminds me of the King of the Universe bit in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy where some aliens decide to declare war because the king pet his cat a certain way while the he has no actual clue what they're talking about.

Get married and lust after your wife only.

>This is sex with great physical passion. The proverb exhorts husbands to rejoice in their wives’ bodies:

>may her breasts satisfy you always

>Contrary to the argument that sexual passion is sinful if it isn’t carefully constrained, husbands are exhorted to be intoxicated with passion for their wives. The proverb offers the example to follow of a buck in the rut.

>As with 1 Cor 7, the proverb starts by warning against sexual immorality and then exhorts the believer to direct their sexual passion as rightfully designed, into marriage

Some things I have learned in my own struggles;

God allows us to have certain sins so that we who are otherwise very well behaved will learn humility. Humility is the most important virtue, without humility, we cannot be perfect in charity, if we cannot be perfect in charity, we put ourselves in danger of hellfire. Humility is the bridge from this life into the next, just like Jesus taught us with his last sermon (namely the cross, since he took the appearance of a slave).

The desert fathers speak openly about the temptation to fornicate (read masturbate, they were monks). Not too openly as to cause scandal, but they recognize that this is a struggle, and don't shrink back from naming it. Some selections follow;

>Abba Poemen said of Abba John the Dwarf that he had prayed God to take his passions away from him so that he might become free from care. He went and told an old man this: 'I find myself in peace, without an enemy,' he said.The old man said to him, 'Go, beseech God to stir up warfare so that you may regain the affliction and humility that you used to have, for it is by warfare that the soul makes progress.' So he besought God and when warfare came, he no longer prayed that it might be taken away, but said, 'Lord,give me strength for the fight.'

So OP, clearly you worry to much; sin is to the advantage of the sinner, to clearly see himself. I'm sure the Psalms say this somewhere, (probably Psalm 51) but I'm tired and I can't remember. The next anecdote about is about Abba Macarius after he learns from the devil which monk is backsliding. Notice the candour.

>The old man said to him, 'See how many years I have lived as an ascetic, and am praised by all, and though I am old, the spirit of fornication troubles me.'Theopemptus said, 'Believe me, Abba, it is the same with me.' The old man went on admitting that other thoughts still warred against him, until he had brought him to admit them about himself. Then he said, 'How do you fast?' He replied,'Till the ninth hour.' 'Practice fasting a little later; meditate on the Gospel and the other Scriptures, and if an alien thought arises within you, never look at it but always look upwards, and the Lord will come at once to your help.' When he had given the brother this rule, the old man then returned to his solitude. He was watching the road once more when he saw the devil, to whom he said, 'Where are you going this time?'He replied, 'To arouse the memories of the brothers,' and he went away. When he came back the saint asked him, 'How are the brothers? 'He replied that it had gone badly. The old man asked him why. He replied, 'They are all obdurate, and the worst is the one friend I had who used to obey me. I do not know what has changed him, but not only does he not obey me any more, but he has become the most obdurate of them all.

So there is a right use of sin, and a wrong use; saying it's not a sin is the wrong use, observing that you are a sinner, and that without grace, you would have done worse, is a right use of sin. Don't think you can accomplish anything without God, so don't try to become righteous, try to become humble.

If anchorite monks in a cave had trouble avoid in lustful thoughts, you are not going to have much luck living in a society where women go where they please.

I've been trying to find the definitive Catholic dogma on sin, especially wrt lust.

My stupid and irrational reading of on the subject is:

1) The sin of Onan was not masturbation and spilling his seed, but denying his late brother's wife an heir because of Onan's own greed in wanting to inherit it all. That would leave her destitute. Saint Aquinas says no, God killed Onan because of masturbation and ignores the issue of leaving a widow without an heir.

Saint Aquinas' argument also goes against the principle that sins that would get you stoned in the old testament were mortal sins, and sins that made you unclean, like masturbation, were venial sins.

Also, it appears that Saint Aquinas is not infallible as he has been contradicted by a Pope speaking ex cathedra

2) Taking the 6th against Adultery is clear. The 9th (Catholic Enumeration of the 10 commandments) is also clear, you can't covet another man's wife. Covet means to desire (what belongs to another) inordinately or culpably. So thinking "Uriah has a very sexy wife" is stating the obvious, but "I'm gonna kill her husband Uriah by sending him off in battle, and then deserting him to the enemy, then I'm gonna take his wife for my own" is a mortal sin.

3) Our Lord and God Jesus spoke in context of adultery in terms of the 9th commandment in Matthew 5:28. Here I don't understand. ''Matt 5:28 But I say to you, that whosoever shall look on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart." To me, either adultery also means fornication, or either the woman or the man must already be married and not to each other.

on the other hand

How I read it or understand it doesn't really matter. What matters is what the Priest hold as sin on earth, and there isn't a lot of consistency there.

Feminism is a purely secular phenomenon, not a Christian one. True, the earliest feminist rallies were led by Protestant women and, yes, Christian laws such as alimony have worked to the detriment of men in conjunction with secular laws (e.g. no-fault divorce), however feminism could only be brought about by the separation of church and state. The early Christians and Muslims held wisdom not found in the "liberated" men of the 20th century onward, and knew better than to fall for the trap that is secularism.

>The more feminism the more Elliot Rodgers there are gonna be.

I think that this was one of Jesus's way of illustrating that all have sinned and fallen in the sight of God, that there is nothing about yourself that you can claim is righteous. A man cannot control lustful thoughts about a woman because he is a sinner by nature. Christ says this so that we can understand that we need Him to be our savior.
