It's my understanding that in heaven and the new earth, we will still be able to eat food. In heaven there's the marriage supper of the Lamb, and in the new earth I assume we'll live like we do here on earth but better and without pain, sin, death, etc.

We won't need food to survive but for pleasure because it is good. You might be thinking to yourself "we'll eat plants, fruits, and vegetables like in the garden of Eden", but then I ask, will we eat plants alive?

Will plants not die when we harvest them, cook them, eat them and digest them? Plants are just as much alive as we are and animals are.

>"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." - Revelation 21:4

Notice the word "their", who is they? They are we, God's people. Not all life, not all of creation. Plants and animals don't go to heaven or hell after they die, they have no memories, no consciousness, no self awareness. Their lives aren't designed to be eternal like human's are, they don't worry about the afterlife. Could you imagine how overcrowded heaven would be if every animal that died went there? Every insect, every farm animal, even every plant.

I'm sure animals we kill in the new creation won't feel pain, maybe there'll be a new and instant way to kill them too, who knows. But what I do know is there will be food and that includes meat.

>"Everything that *lives and moves* about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything." - Genesis 9:3

Speculation is useless and goes against logic. A different reality is simply inconceivable.

>Speculation is useless and goes against logic

That's a pretty boring way to live tbhngl

Part of being exposed to the truth about reality is speculating what more life has to offer. What possibilities await us in the afterlife. Personally I'm not content with just shutting off my brain and waiting, I like to think and wonder.

I know it's impossible to know exactly what it'll be like but it's certainly fun to think about. What's not fun to think about is never being able to eat meat again, so I thought, that can't be right. I know the marriage supper of the Lamb won't be just vegan food (even though plants have life). If Jesus can turn 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish into enough food to feed 5000, one cow, pig, and chicken would be enough to feed everyone whose name is written in the book of life.

>Plants and animals…have no memories, no consciousness, no self awareness.

I see you've never had a pet, or farm animals.

Animals don't have meta-cognition, mate.

I may have worded that incorrectly but you know what I mean though. When they die it's likely their soul disappears from existence, they weren't designed like we were.

I do have a pet and I believe God will allow our pets to pass on to the next life given how much they mean to us, but every other animal not so much.

what am I idolizing?

I agree with everything except that animals have no memories or self awareness. They are complex emotional creatures but not made in the image of God.

No memories in the sense that if their kids die, they'll be sad for that initial moment but they don't stay depressed about it. Animals just don't really think and worry about stuff, they're very in the moment.

That's not to say they don't feel emotions and they don't form memories, I think people are confusing animals forming relationships with memories. Animals remember landscapes and grow familiar to territories but none of this is what I mean by memories.

They remember things for their own survival and just to live life, we remember things because they matter to us and we constantly think about them. If I took my cat back to my old home now that she's adjusted to the new one, she'll feel uncomfortable to the change and inconvenience whereas a human would feel nostalgic and remember times had there.

Animals don't care about what happens after they die, if after they die their soul is removed from existence they wouldn't care, we find that kind of thought frightening.

I'll agree to that. I only feel that we shouldn't deny the apparent capacity of animals and alienate animal lovers from the Christian worldview. They even have capacity for mourning.
