So how do you guys feel about Peterson? Have you guys watched his lectures on the Bible? He interprets it through a psychological/Jungian lense. Apparently he considers himself a Christian despite saying he doesn't believe in God although he is "afraid he might exist" and he also says he is agnostic about the resurrection of Jesus but believes that because Jesus became such an embodiment of the Logos concept/archetype that this may have somehow influenced his physical body in such a way that he may have actually resurrected.

I don't like him or anyone who uses "psychology" in this manner. I get the impression that he believes the life of Christ is about a teaching behind it, while I believe his life is the teaching.

I like him and anyone who uses "psychology" in this manner. I get the impression that he believes the life of Christ is about a teaching behind it, and he's right.

He's a pseudo-intellectual hack, just like all (or nearly all) shrinks

He claims Jesus and the entire gospel is a Jungian metaphor or something

He's an admirable person for his resistance to the politically correct mob but he's a bad role model and father. I haven't looked in to his take on the Bible very far because I picked up he's not a traditional theist viewing the scripture as divine revelation, so why bother?

His followers are generally midwits.

He's too hung up on the Jungian definition of myths. He values Christianity, but only relegates it to that category that doesn't require devotion and commitment. He should read CS Lewis and learn the real value of "myth". That the story of Christ is "true myth" behind all myth. There's value in fiction and all of these other stories that mankind has passed on to each other (which is why Lewis and Tolkien wrote their own myths themselves), but it all points to a real thing.

Jordan "Kermit" Peterson gets a lot of things correct, but when it comes to religion to him it's more about the moral message rather than spiritual realities manifesting through events and/or teachings, so when Christian orthodoxy (not EO) he not the theologian we should have or need. James White would be impactful than Mr.Peterson in that field

And when it comes to the traditional, marriage hierarchy he's experience is different than 90% of men, because Mr.Peterson married his childhood sweetheart, so gives somewhat impractical advice/perspectives for modern men once the ring is on. Personally I think Rollo Tomassi has a better gasp how men and women are, which would be useful for guys looking for relationships.

I think there is a value in the type of analysis he is giving, and the values he's espousing can possibly lead people to a better spot, but he's not theologically sound in any way.

"Christian heretic"/10 at best.

Huh. Well, that's heresy at best. Thus, forbidden to listen to him.

Peterson is really evil. He's just perverted Christianity into some Jungian theosophical occultist insanity. I used to think he was kind of unassuming but now I see pure evil when I look at him.

You are unironically better off reading Epictetus' Discourses and Handbook and Aristotle's Nichomachaen Ethics (Along with the rest of Aristotle's corpus) than taking Jordan Peterson seriously . Inb4 they are pagan. Their books are good for cultivating virtue and living a more Christian life. Even then, they don't go out of their way to distort Christianity (which Aristotle never knew existed and Epictetus probably had very limited experience with) like Peterson is. I'm not gonna lie, he sometimes gives good advice, but at the end of the day, he's just a typical self-help guru minus the striving for virtue through, with and by Christ (not even the sense of ignorance. He just doesn't follow Christ). It's best to just avoid him, or if you can't, don't make him someone worthy of emulation.

He did it to me in another thread (the one about Logic and God). Just ignore him.

Personally, I like Jordan Peterson. Video related, I think he gives advice that's really useful for me. It's just that, as others in the thread have noted, Jordan doesn't take Christianity seriously. Quite simply, he doesn't believe that the events recorded in the Bible literally happened. Even if he believes himself to be a Christian, as he does not believe in the Nicene Creed, I do not agree with his self-assessment and I don't think you should either.

I think he gives great advice but I wouldn't turn to him if I wanted to deepen my faith, but of course, just as I wouldn't turn to a butcher for medical advice, I wouldn't turn to a psychologist for spiritual advice either and I think it's wrong for Christians to disregard him completely just because he gives bad advice in one aspect. You realise your local doctor is probably an atheist too, don't you? Yet whatever advice he would have to give on religion is probably something you'd reject, meanwhile, you still take the medications he recommends. His advice in other aspects I think is quite good and worth returning to. Just don't turn to him for your Christian needs.
