It's weird. When you really dig down into the nitty gritty of Gnostic beliefs, it's starts to sound about as insane as Mormonism or Scientology, despite these groups, to my knowledge, having absolutely nothing to do with one another. I don't think it's just because I didn't grow up around it, either. It's legitimately bizarre. It doesn't help that the basis of Gnostic practice is secret initiation, something it happens to have in common with both Mormonism and Scientology, although Gnosticism obviously came first.
I wonder if there's a connection between them, even if it's minute or unintentional.

Later, Marcion added the concept of non-corporeal bodies and some pseudo-Christian elements, the pagan reaction to Christianity soon after this became "neo-platonism" based on similar gnostic concepts— and then around this same time Mani added a bunch of aramaic syncretic gibberish that started a false religion and got added into the Talmud of the later pharisees, the Talmud then formed the kabbalah and modern Judaism, the study of this by catholics plus the revival of neoplatonism caused the renaissance when Ficino founded the florentine academy. Then ecumenicalism caused humanist writers to incorporate all of this into a new age philosophy called secular humanism, which shall gradually attempt to unite papism and judaism into the One World Religion by drawing on common factors between the two. That's why everyone on the supreme court is one or the other. All the while it's trying to suppress the word of God and the local church and at any cost to prevent that word from getting out if it can and it blasphemes the name of the Lord in its mass media. It also believes in left-wing vs right-wing synthesis of ideas (see: Moses Hess inspiring the NatSoc and Bolshevik movements as well as Zionism, btw) and in the humanist notion of progress and "civil rights" rather than God-given rights and liberties, and is based firmly in this world rather than on the Lord Jesus.
