Some people talk about "a higher self", contrasted to the ego. Is this higher self the same thing as Jesus?

No, Jesus is logic. My higher self is always trying to screw me over and lead me down bad paths.

No, that's not really a scriptural concept, the Bible regards the whole man. This whole idea of subdividing the person was probably invented as a kind of consolation; that there is a Christ-like part of you. This is true, but there's not a real distinction. You can't discard whatever about you is not Christ-like; Christ is meant to be an atonement for your sin. I'm skeptical of the self-help idea in some strains of Christianity. How can you be really grateful to God if you're always trying to be Him?
No, say instead like John the Baptist that "He must become greater, I must become less." (John 3:30) and John 3:31 is even more explicit; "He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all."
I know you haven't said this, but let me preempt a potential thought process and say that you cannot merit the Kingdom of God. Being "higher minded" is how many very kindly Bourgeois people have tried to merit the Kingdom, and unfortunately damned themselves to hell.
What I would say is this; try to recognize yourself for who you really are, as a whole person with all your defects, and then ask God to send you to do His work. Don't try to make it pretty or get noticed, don't try to do it the "higher-minded" or "altruistic" way, don't try to be an image of what a Christian ought to be doing, and don't start doing something on your own initiative. Just let the work come to you, do the work and let God redeem it.
If you start wanting to do God's work, you'll quickly develop instincts about what you can and should be doing, and what is just fake s—. Pardon my french.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’” For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.
Jesus is a person of the trinity who literally, actually took on flesh and walked among us. If he didn't die on the cross as a man then you have no hope for eternal life. This is what the Bible teaches.

Wait, what? I thought that this was basic stuff.
>You're a sinner
>Jesus was not a sinner
He gave His life so that anyone who believes in Him shall not perish but will have eternal life (John 3:16).
Jesus is the atonement for our sins and those of the whole world, He died on a literal cross to show God's love for mankind, and to save all creation from sin and death. You can say a lot of things aren't literal in the Bible, but it's of paramount importance that it was a literal cross. I genuinely hope you're not the OP cause that would mean I wasted a lot of effort on posting.

Being conscious of the quality of your contribution I think is something everyone should adopt, especially us Christians as Christ set us to be salt of the earth and light to the world.
Right now for instance, I can see that what I have to say is off-topic to the thread. Not saging and thus sending this thread to the front of the catalog would imply that it had new, worthwhile content related to its topic but it doesn't - it's just me and you talking about something off-topic so I sage. It's the right thing to do. It's not so much about emulating the Japanese so much as it is about, as I said, being conscious of how you're affecting others.
I'm sure you can imagine on 4Chan, where both the moderators and the posters have lost all sense of quality control, it's common to bump a thread to the top with whatever crap you or anyone else want to post but we don't need to be like that here. This is a good, quiet place with relatively few people. Quality can be controlled and so it should.
Let's be at peace with one another.

It is okay to study comparative mythology. However, Jesus Christ is not a myth. There is plenty of evidence that He was here, and the historicity of Jesus Christ is practically without dispute among scholars. Also, all those attempts at framing Jesus as being related to some other god or mythological character are always debunked.

Jesus is a person. He is one of the Trinity.
I haven't dabbled in New Age stuff in a long time but if I recall correctly, the Higher Self is this version of you that already exists but overcame the Ego and attained some kind of oneness with the Universe or something. The Higher Self oversees all of the various "you's" across the multiverse or something. I used to be into this New Agey stuff before I returned to the fold so I vaguely remember it. Your goal then is to merge with your Higher Self.
Since your Higher Self is supposedly you then no, it cannot be Christ.
When you become who God intended you to become, you do not merge with Christ. You and Christ retain your individualities. Christ says that we, his followers, are his body and while that's true, we should strive to perfect our attachment to the body, that doesn't mean the left arm is nor should become the right arm.
New Agers seek to merge with their Higher Selves but this is not the same as the oneness with Christ pursued by Christians. We don't lose ourselves in the process of this pursuit. We actually become ourselves. We become who we were always supposed to be.

God doesn't self-contradict because that would be an illogical paradox and therefore by definition mean he wouldn't exist. The only being powerful enough to decide God's existence has to be God himself since nothing is more powerful than him. Therefore God is logic.

Calling God logic is a devaluation. This is a phrase that infidels would use to fit a view of God only being a concept invented by man.

Yes it does. Nothing can control God's existence without being God. Logic controls God's existence by the principle of non-contradiction. Therefore logic is God.
Logic didn't come from math. Math derives from logic. And the opinions of infidels should be our least concern.

Historically, logic came from philosophy, and math from trading.
You can make extremely weird and non-sensical math, that is nonetheless completely logical.
The real cool part about it is what is called The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics in the Natural Sciences, which means the more you "fix" math, the more it becomes applicable to physics.
But philosophy and history is a really trippy and complex subject, and you are way out of your league in that field.

EMJ's attempt at neo-platonism is retarded.
Yes, God would technically be the platonic ideal of everything good and virtuous, but everything you extrapolate from that is stupid.
But you wouldn't say God is identical to Temperance, or is controlled by a sort of Temperance overgod.

If this was your initial post >>836600 show me how that could be taken as a strawman argument? You implied that Christianity was not literal from your first post. Then you mentioned comparative mythology this post >>836605. I simply stated that Christ was not a myth and sent you a nice little documentary to watch that goes the mountain of historical evidence. Now it is like you want to argue over semantics. The suffix ology means "study of", so mythology the study of myth. We are on the same page. You claimed Christianity was mythology i.e. based on a myth, I claim it is not. No strawman.

I have made several posts, including the OP. My IP changes due to VPN. I said myth doesn't mean fake. You said the contemporary meaning is myth=fake. I then showed the dictionary definitions, one of which doesn't mean fake. I said because I used the word "mythology" I can't have meant the meaning which is "fake", and therefore it's a strawman. You can believe Jesus literally walked on water. I'll believe it's mythology, even if a person named Jesus existed who corresponded to parts of the mythology. Just because something is not literal doesn't mean it's fake and just because something is mythology doesn't mean it's fake.
