Why is Christianity so cryptic? I can't read the Bible because it's too hard to understand. Even listening to sermons I don't understand it. I guess God cursed me to be a retard.

What translation are you reading and whose sermons are you listening to? It's not cryptic but theology can be hard.

Most pastors and clergy are crypto-kikes like Anderson. You'd get healthier morals from writing a Megaman fanfic than studying modern Christianity. My advice to you is to study Aquinas.

Because you're not fully aware behind the historic and author context of each book, or maybe because you've tried to read the Johannine literature, which requires some level of greek philosophy knowledge. Also maybe because you're not reading them in the original?

In any case, stay away from pagan-inspired Logos theology developed in John.

First start by being familiar with the broad historical context of each book, and then the intellectual context in which each text was written. Remember, a big factor is the greek world milieu in which scripture developed parts of it's ideas.

Try to focus on specific abstract ideas from there. Good luck!

That's interesting. I was thinking the same thing. I remember Aquinas writing that God's nature is actually really simple and, upon thinking about it, I came to believe that it made no sense since, if God is so simple, why are things like Philosophy and Theology so intellectually demanding?

It's just so strange that we need all these structures in order to properly comprehend someone that's apparently simple but I suppose it does kind of make sense:

Consider the autistic person trying to grasp social interaction. The things that seem intuitive to you and me would need special, properly defined terms in order to explain. I think a simple example of this can be seen in the PUA community's invention of the term "negging".

If you look at how Burt Reynolds' character treats a woman in the film Smokey and the Bandit, you can see what he's doing. It's just that the men of today have fallen so far from the men of a mere half-century ago and so they had to invent a new word just to describe something that was once considered so natural, so ubiquitous in the culture, permeating all interactions between the sexes that it was never even thought about, akin to how a fish may never stop to think about about water it swims in.

The difficulty in understanding someone so pure is proof of just how impure we've become.

>why are things like Philosophy so intellectually demanding?

Because they're an infinite string of word-play mechanisms created by really arrogant and elitist people from ancient greece to feel better about themselves. Aside maybe Aristotle and Plato and their applying of the human mind in order to deduce realities surrounding is, all of philosophy is a useless endeavor.

As if someone who thinks 'B being smaller than A' and 'B is larger than C' contains a contradiction is not a jester. If people actually read the texts, they would see it's laughable.

You must be retarded. Someone wants to know the Bible and you're discouraging them? I am shocked someone can be as stupid as you and speak with such authority. Your arrogance is something else.

I would say, one thing that you should do is pray to God before you read, that He opens your eyes to show you what He's doing, open your ears to hear what He's saying and open your heart to understand it.

If you're struggling, I think God wants you to humble yourself and wants you to ask Him for help. I think he wants to bless you as you seek Him more.

But I am curious as above, what version are you reading? Currently, I read the CSB and love it. It's perfect for me. I memorize scripture in NKJV, but study with other translations like CSB and the Message.

I'm not too worried what the gallery thinks. I met an angel earlier this week. Wasn't the first one I've met either. And then the day before a homeless guy I met refused prayer, but then prayed a verse over me that was applicable to my situation. Was he an angel too? Maybe, but what I do know is, God's certainly providing a fun ride.

Now how about going back to worshiping statues or something? The latter rains are here and you've chosen to miss them.

For convenience sake, start reading in something you're comfortable with, maybe NIV? And if you struggle, reference another version, like the message. I use that one more as a reference. And pray whenever you read. This will do good. And one other thing, don't overwhelm yourself saying, "I need to do this much" and struggle. Start off with 5 or 10 minutes then build up. Do the same with prayer and worship. Slowly add, don't push yourself, and you'll start to see God moving in you. You'll do great, my friend.

Here's some simple things to remember when reading the Bible

>most of OT

Mostly about how Israel (and by extension humanity) fell. Read it, but don't go looking for morals in a history book.

>Law

Mostly the reasons why Israel (and by extension humanity) sucked. Read if you are gonna really study the rest of OT, if only to see how Israel winnie the poohs up. Skim otherwise.

>Wisdom and Poetry (Psalms proverbs etc.)

Read. It's nice poetry and life advice. Gives you appreciation of beauty and faith in God. Maybe save Job for later though.

>Stories (Jonah, Esther, Job etc.)

Really your choice. Not very theologically relevant.

>Prophets

Esoteric and highly cultural nonsense (actually makes perfect sense but we don't get the reference). Read it, it'll have morals and Jesus Hints but also don't become schizo because of it and realize some things were actually about ancient wars.

>Gospels

Read it. 3 (ish) years of Jesus, most important thing in the world. Jesus says some weird stuff, but always look at context, whether he's fulfilling a prophecy, and maybe the Greek. Contrary to popular belief, Jesus can exaggerate to make a point. Also take note of the miracles and parables.

>Epistles

Letters from Paul (and some others) to 1st century Churches. Mostly on how to be a good Christian, with a lot of theology. Take note: not everything is addressed to you. These were targeted letters to ancient Churches. Read through all of them.

>Revelation (Prophets 2: electric boogaloo)

Maybe don't read. Tends to make people go mad. You'll understand when you're older.

Read some plaintext version. It shouldn't be too hard if you have like. Basic reading comprehension. Maybe I'm underestimating it's complexity because I have a good brain for it but eh. If you can't understand I'm sure some Catholic Priest will be happy to explain. They couldn't read it for most of history, they have experience.
