I went to a Greek liturgy last year. I just walked in about 8am Sunday morning. I told the old lady greeter that I was a newfag and she handed me a candle and a program and introduced me to a different old lady who showed me around. She walked me through the ceremony and explained the symbolism and gave me a brief rundown of what orthodoxy is. She got me a piece of bread during communion and we lit a candle and stuck it in a sandbox. Afterward we ate some food and talked to some of the other congregants.
I never when back but I got the impression that it would be a pretty straightforward process if I wanted to begome ordodox. There's probably just some hoops you gotta jump through and stuff to read.

If you follow carefully the historic unravelling of what the world "Orthodoxy" means, you'll find that its not the triumph of faith so much as the triumph of a human, earthly institution, which happened to enforce a particular set of ideas that would become "orthodox"

Human affairs need to receive grace as well. We can't sharply divide what is of "faith" and what is of "human", specially when much blood was spilled to preserve the gospel we have such an easy access today. Of course the institution is a bloody and sinful mess, but all men who walked this Earth are the same. I, for one, judge not for all I complain about the bureaucracy of orthodoxy can be said about me too.
Though I understand your concern, imperialism is popular on this board albeit it is just the orthodox version of the prosperity gospel.

We've always had bishops that performed the eucharist.
The reason it became such a visible part of the Church is because we were fighting Gnostics.

There's no need for a flag. "Orthodox" is there for practical purpose just so my background wouldn't be dismissed on notruescotsman grounds like >>835205 is doing. Btw the moldovan church is under russian jurisdiction and just a couple of churches are part of the romanian patriarchy. I abhor their institutional rivalry and their petty squabbles over political and financial dominance over Moldova each claiming to be the most "true" and "ancient" church of Moldova. It applies over entire eastern christianity, all because of lust for control and power.
The same goes for all moldovan who declare themselves baptists, evangelicals, mormons and all protestants/neo-protestants in Moldova who sell their faith for a sack of potatoes which comes as foreign aid from baptist churches in the US, and which they later sell for profit, while families that starve don't see a dime out of that aid.
There's nothing sacred in any so-called denomination here. Which is why man's will in religious affairs must be always put into question, scrutinized and condemned for making a mockery out of Christ, and God.

Had they been preocupied with being good scholars of their own religion they would have won the battle against heresies easily. Instead, they choose brute force of coersion, exercised from top to bottom because study wasn't their preocupation, but lust for power over the religion. We cannot change the past, but we can certainly change our path to salvation away from the arbitrary wims of men and their man-made creations.

What i know is what i've managed to read within the historic context of christianity and some texts such as the Didache. Such simple deductions are available to whoever wants to have an indepth and sistematic understanting of their own religion. This is only the tip of the iceberg. I want to learn aramaic, koine greek and hebrew to further my studies and research of christianity, and God willing, i shall succeed.
