A little drunk is a venial sin.
A lot drunk, like when you black out, is a mortal sin.
What protestants believe depends upon the denomination and there is so many of them you can't tell.

I'm genuinely curious over what is the argument for or against cigarette smoking being a sin. I quit over 6 months ago cold turkey and I don't reckon I was really addicted, but I figure it's better to just not do it.
That being said it seems to me that an occasional cigarette would be viewed, biblically, as would consuming alcohol without becoming intoxicated.

I would say the standard arguments about not being self-destructive, your body being the temple of the Holy Ghost and ye are not your own, for you are bought with a price.
This combined with being sober, having discretion regarding recreation as we are to be filled with the Spirit and not with wine or strong drink, and not placing a stumblingblock or occasion to sin for others.
As we know that this is self destructive, it is therefore prudent in sincerity not to pursue nor encourage it to others by our example. But we should rather be a good example for the weak and those lost.

Weird. I've had thoughts that maybe this universe is purgatory or even hell yet I've never done drugs. A Newton County man, who is a prisoner at Hays State Prison in Trion, and his wife have filed motions for new trials, according to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Both Christopher Michael McNabb and Cortney Marie Bell were convicted of killing their baby Caliyah in May 2019. The two contend that there is no evidence they killed their child. In his motion filed Monday, McNabb says prosecutors were unable to prove he killed baby Caliyah and that his prior attorney was ineffective during the trial.
In her motion for a new trial, filed in late January, Bell also says prosecutors did not prove she was responsible for Caliyah’s death.
A jury deliberated about an hour before convicting both McNabb and Bell following a joint trial. McNabb was sentenced to life in prison without parole, Bell to 30 years with 15 to serve.
McNabb is currently an inmate at Hays State Prison in Trion, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. Bell is currently serving at Pulaski State Prison in Hawkinsville. A relative has custody of the couple’s older daughter.

I'm an Orthodox Psycho-pharmacologist. And yes, I'm aware of the sin of Pharmakeia. The word itself can take different contextual meanings in Greek.
Simply administering or studying chemical effects in the brain logically is far from a sin. Twisting the meaning of the word once translated will only harm us. Especially if using the correct knowledge to help those in need is my goal and priority.
I believe drugs are sinful only because addiction itself is sinful. Many characters in the bible have been shown to drink and be merry whilst still being able to place faith in God.
Furthermore, I'm sure many anons on this board have celebrated Christmas or Easter and seen personally admirable Christians have a few drinks.
If any anon would like to ask specifics about the fields I study - I'm more than willing to answer in the most objective way I can. Let us reason.

Tobacco in moderation isn’t a sin. Marijuana is more difficult, on account of the culture behind it, some, if few psychoactive properties, the people you support by buying it, and wanting to use it being pretty telling of your motives. You’re not supposed to get drunk and impair your judgement, the same goes for weed, not less so anyway.
