tomorrow starts the month of May. During this time, Catholics say their devotions to the Blessed Virgin, Mother of God.

We say the full rosary of 15 decades to honor the Queen of Heaven.

Regina cæli, lætare, alleluia:

Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia,

Resurrexit, sicut dixit, alleluia,

Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.

Gaude et lætare, Virgo Maria, alleluia.

Quia surrexit Dominus vere, alleluia.

Amen.

Its a scriptural mandate, its Luke 1:48, cant sound idolatrous. No Christian can refuse it, God willed it.

As to the other titles, they are inferred from scripture in the same way most theology is inferred rather than directly stated. Even if you dont agree, if you want to understand the topic this video explains a bit of Mary types through scripture. Its by a former 'Mary skeptic' too.

We have to keep it bumped through May then.

I'm good. When someone told Jesus his mother was outside, he said all who obeyed the will of his father were his mother and brothers sort of ended it. Is she blessed? Sure. Should we do anything else? Well, Jesus said that, so anything more is counter to what Jesus said.

This is using the name of Jesus' mother Mary to signal how pious you are by vainglorious public prayers. Despite the command not to do this given by Jesus as found in the gospels.

In this the word is fulfilled: "thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward."

Jesus told the faithful to not pray in public for their own social elevation; Jesus did not to deny the faith.

Catholics show their faith when they pray in public but pray sincerely. It's not a "look at me and how holy I am". If you're praying to give a false impression of your faith, you're doing it wrong.

You've given us yet another example of how Protestants focus on a bit of the Bible, take it out of context, and twist it into something wrong.

and why do you say that as if it’s a good thing? This is literally, clearly, exactly what Jesus was talking about. You’re arguing with Jesus on this one.

>and why do you say that as if it’s a good thing?

Cuz the Lord Christ said don't hide your faith under a bushel basket.

This is the problem with protestantism: you take one part of the bible out of context and ignore the rest.

The Catholic church for almost 2000 years has explained what it means.

Even the Bible itself will tell you if you read it without the Church you'll get it wrong. The Bible also says not to ignore the teachings of the Apostles.

I guess you don't like the answers for the anti-Catholic memes.

This is called "Cognitive Bias" and that discomfort you feel is "Cognitive dissonance"; you have a deeply head religious belief and the facts are saying that belief is wrong. Ergo, the person who is bringing you the facts must be wasting your time.

Seriously, if you don't have good rebuttals, back off and find some rather than employing ad homs.

We know even from the OT that Hebrews applied the word 'brother' to all family ties, like Abraham and Lot calling themselves brothers when they are actually uncle and nephew.

The 'brothers of Jesus' clarified:

She is the only person(discounting God made person) that ever perfectly obeyed the will of the father and thus fully being worthy of that title.

Also 'all generations shall call me blessed' is such a radical statement that we can figure that there is something else being portrayed here, it shows her degree of blessedness is through the roof. I certainly havent earned the right to say such a statement and never will.

>>832443

Nowadays signaling piousness does not make people think highly of you, on the contrary, they will take you for a retrograde medieval person for we live in a Babylonian zeitgeist. So there is no problem with it. The sin that better applies to our age is denying Jesus by hiding our belief due to shame so maybe this verse is more suitable: "But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven."

Also this is an anonymous board so we cant gain status.

>14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

>15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

>16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your GOOD WORKS, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

>5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

>6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

What Jesus is saying is not contradictory. We should do good works, and it must be that we cannot hide all the good that we do. When you are nice to others, for example, you cannot make them unaware of your being nice. But praying is different. What need is there to show that you are praying? You don’t have to pray openly, whereas many good works could not be performed without notice. Anyone can take on the appearance of praying, even the least of the nominal Christians can do this. But good works shine brighter, and do glorify God.

Nobody told you it was ok to do something contrary to scripture simply if you thought it didn't meet up the supposed reason behind the command. This is simply reading beyond what was written and not taking heed lest you fall. He said not to do it, so don't do it, don't try to look for exceptions in his logic when he didn't give any.

He said don't do it, so don't. Continuing in vainglorious repetitions is giving heed to men of sophistry and ignoring the direct commandment of the Lord.

That is why i added: cant gain status on anonymous posting.

Also i cant even comprehend how this thread can be signaling piousness in the first place. When its Easter and people post 'HE IS RISEN!' Is that signaling piousness?

Stating some obvious religious truth isnt doesn't glorify anyone except God.

And if you still arent convinced, since there are plenty protestants here, any Mary posting will bring in animosity, not piousness points.

>Romans 3:23

You can read the response to that verse here:

https://www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/hail-mary-conceived-without-sin

Also, the church "pillar and foundation of truth" who concocted the bible (that you abide by and so admitting her authority) already decided that MAry perfectly followed God's will so you are to obey God's church.

If you disagree there is no point in quoting the Church's bible, go read all the texts pertaining to the story of God and make your own bible. You'll fail because you arent the 1 Timothy 3:15 " church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. " As those who centuries latter decided to meddle with the true bible while having zero authority to do so also failed.

Devil's advocate criticisms

<is the new ark of the covenant

That's fine language speaking figuratively but it's a theological conclusion, not one made directly in scripture (example: Christ is the new Adam)

<Luke makes the connection

Fair lines drawn

<What was contained inside?

Jesus has related typology to those three things in particular, but what about the rest of the seven "I am" statements? There wasn't a door in the ark

<What can this tell us about Mary?

This is where it gets bad

>Mary was immaculately conceived because the ark was purely made of gold

No

>Mary was sinless because the ark was to be kept pure

Absolutely not. All have sinned.

>Mary was ever virgin because the ark was not to be touched

No

>Mary only begat Jesus because only the high priest could near the ark

No

>Mary was bodily assumed into heaven because the ark is in heaven in revelation

The most tenuous of all

All of these are eisegesis. None of them follow.

The author started with doctrines then searched scripture for proof texts.

The church is also an ark. Would you let me say clergy are sinless because the ark was pure?

<Revelation makes the connection

The woman is not Mary, it's the church

Summary: really bad

I am not catholic, however Mary has had a great impact on my life.

It is comforting to read she was chosen of God as a portal for Him to enter earth despite her human qualities.

The thought of her keeping the message delivered to her in her heart- also encourages (when duct tape doesn’t work) to silence the lips and allow the message God delivers to come to pass without the verbal vomit that outward processing can sometimes manifest.

Also, in times of trial with our offspring, thinking about how another human selflessly allowed Gods will to prevail, despite the heart break/want to control one sometimes feels as a parent, allows us to approach these situations with Grace and Trust.

This has brought and brings a deep feeling of Peace and safety.

While Mary is not to be idolized (no idols), she is certainly one to look to for leadership on this planet and can be a guide of sorts, for those of us who can relate.

Peace and light to each of you and this journey. Grace and love to all.
