Is it possible to be a Christian and also in the finance / business sector or really any occupation such as software engineering in which you sacrifice happiness for money, or in which your life is oriented around the accumulation of money?

We are forced by the age to orient our routine according to our jobs, though try not to orient your spirit as well. Have fruitful hobbies and engage in your community to clean yourself in your free time.

>We are forced by the age to orient our routine according to our jobs
That’s why the question of proper work is important.
>though try not to orient your spirit as well
That would be a schizophrenic existence.

There are some scriptures that can reference both ways here. Most simply and likely best conclusion from directly related scripture: if you're working in finance / business / computer software for the sole purpose of obtaining money, you're doing it wrong.
However, the correct answer beyond the above: Ask God for guidance specific to you. While a certain industry may be more worldly-focused, you may still possibly be part of a more-worldly-focused industry for a time if that's where God guides you. Just remember to follow God.

Yes, there's nothing inherently wrong
>in which you sacrifice happiness for money
if any would not work, neither should he eat
If you win the workplace lottery and actually love everything about your job, you're the exception
>or in which your life is oriented around the accumulation of money
Are you asking about forbidden fields of business or personal priorities?

Oh, I see. Though I don't know enough about your situation to judge it meaningfully, neither could I ever through the internet. I would recommend discussing with closer people you trust, a parent, brother, friend or confessor.
>That would be a schizophrenic existence.
I feel as though we are not making ourselves understood. I meant that you need to maintain a healthy and God-pleasing social and spiritual life.

Are you saying the age forces us to be dirty?

Nothing inherently wrong with working just for money when you could work way less and still physically survive, but instead you work because you want nicer things and if you don’t your friends will make you envious?

>Just remember to follow God
Unless someone is Cathodox that is indistinguishable from the admonition to follow one’s conscience.

You should see it as an opportunity to share the good news with coworkers who probably dont get much exposure to christianity as a whole. On top of that if you make a lot of money that means you can make a big difference in your community.

Maybe, I dont know, but I work for a major US bank, and i will tell you dont, you are an infantismal cog in a corporate machine that talks out both sides of its two faced mouth, they claim they care about customers and their needs but they are liars they dont care about them or their employees for that matter, sales are all that matter, and you will be forced to witness and endure greed and vanity, you will sow nothing and reap nothing, you will not build anything either, its all worthless, you will be reprimanded for honesty, and discarded if it is convenient or if you commit the grave crime of being human, i detest it ever more and intend to walk away soon as I cant stomach it much longer

You do know that exalting the Bible is still idolatry, right? He's asking God to speak to him, not the Bible. The Bible is not God. Only a heretic would think that reading the Bible means you shouldn't pray.
