some theologians seem to think its a fight over semantics, not even modern ones but also some from the patristic era.

There's a reasonable argument there

There is a meme about whether they are orthodox.

I remember reading some news about russian monks had some good exchanges with ethiopian monks, and I prefer trusting people who dedicate themselves to God more than me to judge a Christian tradition. I don't trust these wannabe theologians who clearly don't pray, though.

Can you name some of the patristic era?

I met a Coptic priest who said dying within proximity to Jesus when he died was grounds for salvation and the guy who died on the cross and went to heaven had 10 verifiable good works to show we are saved by works. Additionally, the one I went to allowed my roommate to progress through the membership ranks and gain responsibility and have a better seat. He was one of the least qualified people to do this. And I don't mean least qualified in the, "God doesn't look at the outside, but the inside." I mean the "this guy has no knowledge of the Bible" sort of thing. It really made me question what little wisdom they had.

Big problem amongst many 'tradition' based sects, it's not unique to Copts.

They get salvation wrong, and Jesus wrong.

the 5th ecumenical council accepted miaphysitism as orthodox if understood as how Cyril of Alexandria used the terminology, copts claim to follow Cyril in their christology, so if we can take their word for it we shouldn't have a problem:

>If anyone confesses a belief that a union has been made out of the two natures divinity and humanity, or speaks about the one nature of God the Word made flesh, but does not understand these things according to what the fathers have taught, namely that from the divine and human natures a union was made according to subsistence, and that one Christ was formed, and from these expressions tries to introduce one nature or substance made of the deity and human flesh of Christ: let him be anathema.

one nature of God the Word made flesh = Miaphysitism

St, John of Damascus said that monophysites are orthodox in everything except their non-acceptance of chalcedon.

also Leontius of Jerusalem:

>Leontius of Jerusalem is considered the most accomplished of the neo-Chalcedonian theologians of the sixth century. He shows himself, in his Testimonies of the Saints, to be an ecumenical theologian attempting to convince Syrian anti-Chalcedonians ('Monophysites') that their objections to Chalcedon are baseless, since all agree, beneath their antithetical formulae, on a christology of hypostatic union. They are urged to abandon their self-important yet discredited mentor, Severus, and to see that Chalcedon had no secret agenda.

Abstract between Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox Joint Commission:

>A number of statements have been issued by the Joint Commission, as well as agreements relating to Pastoral matters. The main agreement is that ‘We have inherited from our fathers in Christ the one apostolic faith and tradition.’

also from the Miaphysite side:

When I had given much thought and pondered on the matter, I became convinced that these quarrels among the different Christian Churches are not a matter of factual substance, but of words and terminology; for they all confess Christ our Lord to be perfect God and perfect human, without any commingling, mixing, or confusion of the natures… Thus I saw all the Christian communities, with their different christological positions, as possessing a single common ground that is without any difference between them.

The doctrine of sola fide is heretical. How many times do we have to tell you prots this? Protestant soteriology is heretical and antithetical to the Bible and historic Christianity.

Who taught you this and can you support it?

> anti-thetical to historic Christianity.

Oh it seems you have an error in your foundation.

They are canonically considered as heretics by the Orthodox church, and they are considered not better I imagine by Catholics, so I don't know who does stand with them.

I never once mentioned sola fide, yet he some how got that from it. How do you jump to that when someone says without proof the guy dying in proximity to Jesus went to heaven because of the location and that he performed 10 good deeds?

To be a good example of faith for generations to come seems a juicier deed than any of the other 9.

Though because one of them was spwecial, it doesn't mean they are all bad.
