Are you interested in the translation or the notes? The NT is just nkjv

Right.. so you mean you want the notes and the translation?

I found the libgen link if you didn't already

If the Wikipedia article is accurate the old testament translation should be interesting but not trustworthy over other options, since its a translation of the Septuagint (and other sources?) rather than a direct English translation from Hebrew manuscripts

If it's the study bible aspect you're more interested in you might also like to look into the CSB ancient faith study bible. It's main feature is putting the relevant commentary from early writers alongside their passages

It's even flawed with respect to its adherence to the Septuagint.

This review mentions many of the disagreements with the Septuagint.

https://web.archive.org/web/20150121075034/http://www.geocities.ws/r_grant_jones/Rick/Septuagint/sp_OSB_notes1.htm

Those interested in translations from the Septuagint should also consider the LXX2012 which was just an update of the classic Brenton translation. It would be nice if public domain works were given as much attention as more commercially popular translations.

You realize that this is theft, right? The OSB isn't open source. Are you honestly going to steal a Bible?

Other popular Bibles have freely available uploads on websites. Your eagerness to insist on payment suggests a greater desire to profit something and use moralism as an excuse than to preach.

The OSB is more than just a translation, it's a full study bible with a lot of additional content. The latest edition is also very recent, just published a few years ago. It isn't some decades or centuries old work, it's a new and very recent one where the costs of production are still being recouped.

But regardless of all that, the creators of the OSB have not released it freely. They sell it both physically and digitally, and to just download a PDF of it is stealing the fruits of their labor. You can't get around that.

I don't make any profit off it, and I'm anonymous. But you're stealing. And that's that. If you just need a bible, there are many translations online, like you said, which are perfectly fine for Orthodox faithful to use. The OSB itself is heavily based on the NJKV translation, and freely released translations of many parts of the LXX are also available. But what you're paying for with the OSB is the properiety OT translation, and all the work of the commentary and other additional content. It would be nice if everything could be free, but the labor of many people went into the production of the OSB, and they do have a right to be compensated for that labor. And you're not stealing from some corporate fatcat, you're stealing from Christian scholars and editors.

It simply is not theft. No amount of insisting that it is will change this.

Call it "avarice" instead of theft, if you like. The point remains the same. Even for an ebook version, there is a charge to be paid. You don't suddenly become entitled to get whatever you want for free just because it exists in an electronic medium.

Meme all you want.

Christ said "render unto Caeser." He didn't make any statement about whether or not the taxes were just. Copyright, like it or not, is a real part of our legal system, and if you don't have the legal right to make copies, then you are violating the law and stealing. That's it.

>Meme all you want

What is the relevant difference?

Just to be sure I understand you, are you saying that rulers must be obeyed merely because it is an instruction from rulers?

That is not good exegesis of that passage. I've shared this article before here; https://www.lewrockwell.com/2007/08/chuck-baldwin/the-myth-of-romans-13/

>Remember that every apostle of Christ (except John) was killed by hostile civil authorities opposed to their endeavors. Christians throughout church history were imprisoned, tortured, or killed by civil authorities of all stripes for refusing to submit to their various laws and prohibitions. Did all of these Christian martyrs violate God’s principle of submission to authority?

>So, even the great prophets, apostles, and writers of the Bible (including the writer of Romans Chapter 13) understood that human authority – even civil authority – is limited.

In my experience there are three general answers to the question

>Rulers must be unquestionably obeyed

>Rulers must be unquestionably obeyed so long as obedience doesn't constitute a violation of Christianity (example: missionary work in red China)

>There is no obligation to obey rulers on account of their status. The Christian's relationship to rulers is first about his public testimony (being all things to all people, not being a stumbling block to others)

This is just considering the objection that a violation of copyright law (for personal use, not commercial) is wrong because of its illegality. Just asserting that a writer is entitled to compensation if you come into possession of a digital copy of a work is tantamount to slavery.

I just got mine about a week ago! I did download it for free originally, but I felt bad about it and barely looked at it. I eventually bought it though of course. I don't have a job and the only money I have is saved up from birthdays and Christmas, so nearly 40 bucks is a little much for someone like me, but I think it's worth it.

I haven't had a ton of time to look through it, but I've gone through a couple pages of Genesis so far, read the footnotes and went over some other commentary. I can already tell that it will help out a lot with understanding the Orthodox faith (or at least the basics). However, I'm new to the faith, so I'd recommend looking to the advice and thoughts of Orthodox Christians who are more "mature" in the faith versus a relatively new convert (former Protestant) like myself.

It is probably a moot point whether anyone thinks copyright law is just or whether it should be obeyed in general since we are under an obligation in as much as it is possible to maintain our spiritual workers. That means paying for the support of our parishes and the production of the spiritual books we read.

1 Timothy 5:18

“For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.”

Shouldn't we set up some thread to let anons help each other with Christian books & bibles? Maybe through amazon wishlists and the like. Probably using something like a burner email and/or PGP keys so nobody has to get openly doxxed.
