So, I'm a college student, and I was wondering if it was a sin to study/do homework on Sundays. Any insights into this? Thanks!

Then why is church on Sundays?

We don't observe Sabbath or sabbatical laws as Christians. Sunday is the Lord's day.
The only reason it would be a problem is if it interferes with your worship or if you voluntarily set aside Sunday as some sort of fast from work before God.

7th Day Adventists can keep their cult and get out.
The Apostles and Disciples and all Church Fathers worshiped in fellowship on Sundays. That's Biblical. The Sabbath has been fulfilled. Every day is the Sabbath in the New Covenant.

Christians can never be bound by the Sabbath, Christ says He is LORD OF THE SABBATH. The Sabbath was fulfilled by Christ giving us Sabbath rest with His death. So, there's no possible way that we are bound by anything like a Sabbath, and we know that Roman Catholics actually treat Sundays like a Sabbath (if you work on Sunday as a Roman Catholic it's a mortal sin, along with any kind of labor in general). So it's actually you that's more like the Papist.

>if you work on Sunday as a Roman Catholic it's a mortal sin, along with any kind of labor in general
This is a blatant lie. The truth is that it is a precept of the Church that you should attend Mass each Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation and that to abstain from attending Mass freely and without significant reason is a mortal sin. It says nothing of working or labor on Sundays.

The ancient Hebrews didn't have names for every day of the week. There were 6 days, then there was "shabbat", the day of rest. Since their calendar was based on lunar cycles and we've changed our solar calendar 2 dozen times throughout history, we literally have no way of knowing which of our days was their shabbat. For all we know, it could be Tuesdays.

No, go ahead and look in any traditional (pre-Vatican II) catechism, this one lists it as a mortal sin. The fact that Rome can change it from once true to false is another argument against your church.

I'm sorry you can't wrap your head around it, but the ancient Hebrew calendar was based on the moon. The modern Jewish calendar is still based on the moon. Why do you think the sabbath is from sundown to sundown? It's because when God was creating the heavens and the Earth, "there was a night, then a day".
Our modern solar calendar is the one that's wrong. But, hey, you go ahead and worship those pagan gods your days are named after.

Reading and writing on your day of rest should be fine. If I can make a suggestion, study under natural light.
Exodus 35:3:
>You shall kindle no fire in all your dwellings on the sabbath day.

>the Jewish Sabbath is moon worship
You all sound like you've never been outside.
The Sabbath is thought to begin at nightfall because every Jewish calendar day begins at nightfall.

>cites Christ-rejecting Jews
In what universe were the ancient Hebrews "Christ-rejecting Jews"? Shabbat, the day of rest, comes from the ancient Hebrews and their calendar as commanded to them by God.
Then again, I can tell you're incapable of posting with any sense of Christian charity and, well, that's allowed here now - so I'm just going to filter you and be done with it.

To actually answer your question, on the Lord's day you cannot participate in unnecessary manual labor. If the work is necessary, like studying could be, or not manual labor, which studying certainly falls under, then you aren't sinning.

I had no idea that God changed his mind and the 3rd commandment of the Ten Commandments was repealed. Huh! Learn something new every day!
Seriously, I'll just keep the Sabbath thanks! Hope you don't mind, but I'd rather offend ya'all than The Lord God Almighty Creator of Heaven and Earth and even creator of little things like my eternal soul. I feel I owe it to God, you know?
