I desperately want and of course need to get baptized, and, in sharing with you all believe this ought be done within the orthodox Church. Some time ago, I made a thread asking you all about what the exact legalities and logistics should be if I want to attend my first mass as an unbaptized, uncatechized secular, or cultural Christian. I, since then, have found parishes within which this may be a possibility for me, but only their locations. I live in the Netherlands; orthodox Christianity is illusive for me, and quite hard to interconnect my life with. Nevertheless, when the decision is firm, and I, let's say, am ready to start my way to becoming baptized and attending said parish faithfully; where do I start? How do I become a catuchemen?

On a sidenote and thanks to the state of this board what with the threads that are up in the catalog now, I see no reason to not make a seperate thread to ask this. Thanks

Without trying to discourage you, and without trying to start an argument, I was wondering why exactly you decided on orthodoxy? Traditional Catholicism is much closer intertwined to your culture and you can be certain of orthodoxy there if you stick to specific churches.

Why do you want to join a church that in your country will have very ethnicity-centric churches? I too live in Europe and if I were to go to, say, the Russian Orthodox Church I would raise eyebrows, same as for the Greek Orthodox and similar, as they are mainly for people from the same ethnic background.

I don't see tradcath theology to be as sound as that of orthodoxy, or even 1/10th as defined or vast, as the existence of tradcath as a movement or whole or cultural entity or what have you is more of a social or political thing, in trying to keep with as original a catholic tradition as possible, which may or may not be possible while recognizing the authority of the pope, thus mainstream RC, thus novus ordo, and the snake head hall in the vatican, and the liberal tweets, and the antichrist statue in said snake hall, which is unacceptable and not done. Of course anyone in their right mind choosing a denomination is going to choose the one they feel is closest to the original Church, in my case I believe orthodoxy IS the original Church. If a based and redpilled catholic parish were to open in my vicinity, according to the Church fathers who would know quite a lot more about the subject than either of us, it would still be better to attend an Orthodox church. And yes, there is a lot of difficulty with ethno-centrism and communities centering in on themselves and people not knowing what orthodoxy even is and logistics, and in 1921 I would just have been catholic like anyone, but I can not go back from what I have read, experienced and learned and I cannot ignore that the orthodox church *is* here and within reach of me, therefore, if it is the one holy apostolic catholic Church, it is to be put up with. I can't go back to believing it does not really matter anymore.

Sorry LARPers the 'trad' church you belong to does not exist. Vatican II has showed the world your church is false

It's as simple as going to church and talking with your priest.

If you want to join an Orthodox Church it needs to be one which is communion with Rome. Make sure of this. An Orthodox Church in communion with Rome is legitimate (Eastern Rite).

To those who have a problem with the Pope, there have been terrible Popes before. His power to change tradition is minimal (and given the control by the Holy Ghost, non-existent). He makes sound bites. Traditional Catholics are growing while Vat 2 is shrinking. Give it time. 15 years ago I started doing political work thinking it would take 100 years to get a POTUS on our side. Took about 12. Things change faster if people put in the time to do it.

You don't abandon the Church of Peter, the only church that saves; you restore it. The Council of Trent, and traditional theology, is still extant. Work to bring that back over time.

Amen. I think if the Church can survive Pope John XII, then it can survive Pope Francis I.

Its blatant that orthodoxy is false because historically there's minimal evangelization. The entirety of asia right next to them to save and nothing was done. Its ethnic like jewry.

Portugal and Spain alone converted half the planet, even up to Asia. You are given charity by God and so you want to save souls and share the good news of God incarnated.

I read some cope about it, saying its God that has to turn people's hearts and lead them to the ortho church who evangelizes by their conduct… If indeed they were a paragon of sanctity that argument could maybe stick but they arent any more holy than anyone else so that their example of virtuous living could convert anyone. We are all sinners, our conduct will always be s—.

Had the western world succumbed to Islam and the East remained as the only Christians, there would be no more Christian countries to this day.

>>826810

Jesus singled Peter and also you are a westerner, its a God's gift to be born into the real church.

As to the current state of Catholicism, who cares, ups and downs are part of creation, nothing is stable besides God. You follow the church based on truth not because its on a high historical point.

That it is on a low point is actually good for your eternal soul, your perseverance while living in a non ideal moment will be rewarded.

Besides if we had the media lambasting all the ortho calamities that happen nobody would see them as a decent alternative. The media hates the church that matters to destroy.

Idiotic argument because according to Catholics 95%+ of the Catholics today are not Catholic, but modernists.

>As to the current state of Catholicism, who cares

See? Lol.

>The media hates the church that matters to destroy.

Maybe that's why our church has been under the Muslim yoke and then the Communist yoke for such a long time? I can literally make the same arguments you do with ease. Nothing you typed is theological at all.

And it's the East that taught the West Christianity… and since we were one church until the Schism, it's not like you can say Catholics did all the evangelization in the first millennium. And there were plenty of Orthodox in Asia (China/Japan) before the Bolsheviks took over, and we evangelized much of Alaska.
