I am going to my first Catholic mass tomorrow morning, and I am going to ask how I might start becoming a catuchemen, afterwards. I do know nothing of any of it, however. How should I best prepare? Is it even right first to attend?

Bless you Christanon. this brings a tear to my eye.

Don't take communion until you're baptized, taught, and have done the sacrament of penance. You might call or e-mail one of the Parish's priests.

Is this a Traditional Latin Mass or a Novus Ordo mass? I've never been to a Novus Ordo mass.

This. Eventually you will enter the traditionalist spiral (becoming SSPX or Sede) and go insane. The Truth (Orthodoxy) will set you free.

Well, some Orthodox are Catholic and Eastern Rite not Roman Rite… And some are not.

Nothing against the Non-Catholic orthodoxy, I think some of their sacraments may be valid still thus, per the Catholic Church, they may give the flock sanctifying grace; it's just not God's one True Church.

It is a mortal sin not to join The Catholic church if you know it is the One True Church established by Our Lord on Saint Peter.

It is more difficult wrt sin, I know. I'm struggling with the difference between venial and mortal sin myself.

Uniatism disproves your church. Pius XII canonized Sergius of Radonezh in the Roman Church (keep in mind this is before Vatican II), so not only can one find salvation outside the Roman church, you can find holiness! And Uniates venerate Orthodox Saints, and believe the same 'heretical' (according to the Roman church) doctrines that Orthodox do. Frankie has literally made a schismatic Armenian a 'doctor' of your church.

So for starters, you do realize that YOUR Church venerates the founder of said schismatic Armenian church as a Saint as well, right?

St. Gregory the Illuminator.

So I guess you can find holiness outside of the Orthodox churches as well?

That was before the schism? Are you aware of the Non-Chalcedonians (Oriental Orthodox?) We are not in communion them or the Church of the East. To be fair, both church bodies are far closer to the Apostolic faith than Papism. And the reason I point this out is that Cantate Domino (Papal Bull) teaches the strict view of EENS that the Roman church used to maintain, namely, that nobody can ever be saved outside the Roman church. You have canonized saints that had nothing to do with the Roman church. Ergo, your church has contradicted its dogmas.

No you shouldn't do that. If you believe in the Orthodox faith then you should convert to the Orthodox Catholic Church, not the Roman Catholic Church. But if you believe in the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church then do not join the Orthodox Catholic Church.

If it's a Tridentine Mass, just sit in a place and watch it, stand up when everyone does so, kneel when everyone does so, sit down when everyone does so. You could learn the prayers in latin later, but for now just go there and contemplate the beauty.

Just stay away from any Catholic church. Stay home and read your bible. Church activities will not bring you closer to Christ.

And here, catboys and gentlemen, is what we refer to as "brass tacks." Even in the most clownish of clown masses, the Holy Presence of Our Lord is in the Tabernacle and is confected during the order of the Liturgy.

Propers, rubrics, and traditional modes of liturgical aesthetics and common decency (much of which goes right out the window in modern Masses, at least in English-speaking countries) aside, a Mass can only licitly be considered to be a Mass if the Holy Eucharist has been confected by a properly ordained Priest with valid Holy Orders. Assisting at such a Mass still fulfills one's requirements to attend Mass on Sundays and other Days of Obligation.

No homosex mouthpiece or other degenerate element within the Church can take that away from you, nor can they prevent you from receiving Our Lord (under the usual conditions…) in the proper form: Reverently knelt before His holy Eucharistic Body and graciously receiving Him on the tongue. Pic related.

A lack of reverence in the liturgy available to you is not a lack of liturgy, and you will be held liable in the next life if you fail to do your due diligence in this life as a Christian. Simple as. If the people and liturgies around you are not inspiring or contributory to your faith life, it is up to you to pick up the slack by being more reverent in your day-to-day affairs.

Praying the daily Rosary and learning bits of Latin and/or Greek is a fantastic way to start this ("be the change you want to see" and all that…).

Very relevant: forgive me, for I know nothing. I have a couple more questions:

1. If I want to attend, adhere, and serve within a church do I have to be baptized first? Thus become a catuchemen? Thus wait quite some time before I will get a chance to even go, thus, is it even right for me to go? Would it be just if I just attended?

2. If I am baptized, will I have a chance to go to confession beforehand? I suppose it's the same question, in what order to proceed. But I do not know; and I have to know; when I am baptized, will it be neccessary to confess my sins? If not, would it be just to this afterward anyway? For I carry some seriously heinous crimes on me.

I suppose it's doable but certainly difficult, I'd have to get a driver's license and a car before then. I know for myself that with everything involved my going there regularly is a scenario that is years away from becoming a tried thing in my life. I like this little mainstream RC church which is in my old town, and I'm just wondering why I can't go there for confessions and mass on sundays if I remain orthodox or even somehow get myself baptized as orthodox. Please help me decide what to do here..

We Orthodox don't recognize the Roman institution and its sacraments as yielding grace. You can only get the Sacraments in an Orthodox Church. I mean, in our theology, grace is uncreated (God's energies) whereas in the West, it's created.

The way it usually works is that you attend the Liturgy on Sundays/Vespers on Saturday for some weeks, ask to be taught in the Faith, become a catechumen, and eventually you are received into the Orthodox Church. Are you already baptized? If you're not baptized, you won't need to confess the sins you committed before baptism. Try to contact the priest of the closest Orthodox Church to you and explain to him your situation, he will likely be accommodating. Possibly parishioners of his will be commuting from near the area you are from.

Baptism removes all sins; Original, Mortal and Venial. No confession required. Confession is for mortal sins after baptism.

1. Traditional Latin (aka tridentine) Mass already have designed people to help the priest (if that's what you mean by "serve"). You can attend and hear the Mass even if you are not a catucheman formally, it's ok.

2. No, confession works for people already baptized, since baptism only works once in a life cleaning all your sins.

You may learn more about this in the catechumenal process in order to get baptized.

You can attend without being baptized. DO NOT receive communion without baptism, or if you are in mortal sin. Talk with the priests there about when you would be able to receive communion. You should be catechized (learn the faith) before you start attending confession. I think you technically need to be catechized before you are even baptized.

I'm in the process of catechism right now at an FSSP (Latin Mass) chapel. They have me learning from "This is the Faith", by Canon Francis Ripley and the Baltimore Catechism 3 (Seton Press copy, though there are others).

There is a great catechism series from Fulton Sheen which is ~25 hours but worth it.

You should not go to confession before you are baptized. Confession is for sins after baptism.

Have you ever been baptized as a Christian? If so, then you'll need to confirm that baptism was valid as the Catholic Church does not re-baptize. Baptism is a one time sacrament even if done in a protestant church.

The church you're looking to attend likely has RCIA classes for people looking to join. If it is not a traditional Latin Mass church you need to be careful and really learn the faith on your own. You should be careful and learn the faith very well anyway.

Sensus Fidelium, a Youtube channel, has really good traditional Catholic content to learn from. I strongly recommend videos from Father Ripperger. Father Ripperger's videos brought me to the Catholic church after I started dealing with demonic problems.
