I don't know about you, but school teachers have tried convincing me of that since I was in elementary school. They would tell us that humans are mammals that descend from primates. One kid (~7 years old) questioned it and the teacher told him there is no God. Atheists have this obsession with being the underprivileged counter-culture, but uhm… nope. Atheism has been the mainstream position for the last 20+ years now.

My family actually instilled in me the opposite, especially a lefty sibling that I had lots of conversation with about life. I remember them telling me one time when I was little that religion was a lie and to not fall for it. I agreed at the time. School also never really taught church history, it lauded the Enlightenment and secularism and made the era of Christian rule out to be tyrannical. In popular culture lots of people would say things like, "The Bible is a bunch of edited stories meant to control you" and every other Disney movie has a common theme of people breaking free from cultural norms and traditions to find their true selves. TV shows almost never showed religious characters, if any existed it was only for comedy.
It was only when I was looking into philosophy that I decided to look into the history of Christianity, since I never even gave it a chance, and started visiting churches, when I came to realize that I had essentially been fed a bunch of lies and half truths my whole life. Atheism is the new "square" now.

For Christ's sake, read the Gospels before you read the acts of apostles.

We still have uncontacted tribes on the world. The apostles obviously knew about the fact that they would not live to see the apocalypse, that's kind of the point why they founded the Catholic Church so eventually everything Christ said and the OT prefigured would be fullfilled.
