How does the church feel about former Muslim Christians who still perform the five Muslim daily prayers? Is that permissible?

Why would the Church have an issue with it when we are told to pray all day. Same with fasting.

The apostle Paul states that for the Jews there is no sin in continuing their traditions unto God after becoming Christians. I imagine the same is true for Muslims, allowing that you devote them to God as you now know Him. It is necessary to have a spirit of discernment of these things. After all, nothing ill can possibly come of commiting to prayer five times a day, God bless you. But should you face Mecca? Should you pray the Salat and not the rosary or simply from your heart? I have not studied the Salat, but you have. We must always be mindful of who we are lifting up. That is why Indian Christians do not practice any form of yoga.

Why not pray the Liturgy of the Hours or Divine Office? It's existence is older than Islam itself and still used by the Church today.

Jesus taught you how to pray at Matthew chapter 6.

You mean the prayers that include praise of a false prophet who denied Christ's death and resurrection, denied His divinity?

I'm a former buddhist who prays and reads the bible in the cross-legged position. It's just a force of habit, I feel stable in it and how I sit on my bed.

As long as it's a superficial "form" it wouldn't matter.

Hi OP - definitely keep those 5 daily prayers up (minus any Quran readings). Just be sure to end each prayer with the glorofying or thanking of Jesus our mediator.

As other anons mentioned, many of the earliest Christians kept their Jewish traditions if prayer and ritual despite them being necessary. I did the same myself after switching from Catholic to Protestant.

You still serve the same God and the fundamentals of your prayer schedule are most certainly pleasing to him.

Either pray the Liturgy of the Hours or the Rosary or something else not the blasphemous disgusting Mohammedan prayerrs that literally curse the Jews and Christians. It's a filthy stupid prayer, Al-Fatihah makes me want to vomit. And why follow the idiotic timing schedule of a retard named Mohammed. Follow our schedule, dont' be a reverse judaizer (mohammedizer). Leave the filth where it belongs, in the trash.

As long as you are praying to the correct God, I can't imagine why praying 5 times a day would be a bad thing. I personally think it's a good habit.

St. Paul did say to always be praying after all. It's not like these muslim converts pray to Moohammed or anything.

Get an agpeya or something. Multiple prayer times a day is a common enough thing in Christianity. You can do something very similar with prostrations even. I would suggest not reciting actual Muslim prayers, though. You aren't a Muslim anymore.

Well, Islam took prostrations from Eastern Christendom.

And i know the african rite berbers did something similar to the 5 prayers a day thing.

Possibly one of the reasons MENA got islamified.

Do they bow toward mecca or do they bow before the altar?

Are they devoted to the prophet of the muslims or the saints of christianity?

Do they pray to the Father Son and Holy Ghost or the lonely God of the Arabs?

You can pray five times a day. What do you pray for?

Doesn't the Muslim prayer involve reciting that Muhammad is the final messenger of God and there is no God but God (which isn't literally but could be interpreted as an anti-trinitarian polemic)?

Other than that there is no problem. Prostration and daily prayer is based.

These Chick types are funny.

Allah just means "God". Related to other Semetic forms like El/Elohim. Even Arab speaking Christians say "Allah". It's just a common word and not a name.

Muslims were once Christian long ago, but unfortunately got corrupted by various apocryphal and Arian influences and regional warlord philosophies. Even the famous "Kaaba" in the heart of Mecca (the black cube building) was once Christian. When Muhammad conquered the area, he took it over and found icons of Jesus and Mary within.

Do you have a source for this? I always thought Muhammad just played up the supposed monotheist origins of the Kaaba when it reality it was a pagan place of worship and commerce and Muhammad just pulled some revisionist history to make his religion seem like primordial Abrahamism.

Not a bad move, to be honest.

If the report is true it means there was an icon of mary and Jesus alongside the numerous idols, so it's hardly a christian church. But the report might've originated with ex-christian converts that wanted to champion such pro-Jesus and mary messages.

The Arab tribes that became the first Muslims and the Ka'bah was originally following nicene christianity but then changed to arianism and paganism in the remaining 200 years before Islam? That's quite unlikely.
