I am a 21 year old Male. Not catholic. I really enjoyed it and it felt like the first genuine church I've been to in a long time. I felt closer to Jesus than I ever have

I'm also a 21 Male who contemplated going to mass today for the first time. But I got very drunk last night and slept in. I have thrown away all my alcohol just an hour ago from the disgust with myself.

Please pray for me my brother.

Also what kind of mass and church? What was your favourite part about it? Did you talk with the father?

Ill pray for you brother, I was hesitating myself before I decided to just go. It was a tiny church in a small town, I think it was the new mass, I'm pretty ignorant of catholic stuff so I don't really know. They took communion by hand or tongue. I shook the fathers hand on the way out and he said he hopes to see me again.

Is it an older church with mostly old people? Did you go with people or by yourself? Did it feel like the holy spirit was trying to enter you during the mass? How much of the mass was singing?

Nice one, I also begun going back to church at the end of last year (mind you, I did catechism back in a day, back had not gone to church in over a decade). I also felt unsure at first and was timid initially, but I kept going daily because I was in a really bad place and had the time, started to get to know people there, participating with the liturgy with readings and stuff, singing, community parties, and I can say for sure its about the best thing I have going in my life right now.

A good pastor always takes good care of its sheep, and that's a good sign that he noticed and welcomed you. Being well received and feeling like part of the community is a unique feeling that's very rare nowadays, that alone is good reason enough.

A lot of old people, a few young families. I think there were a few others my age. Some were singing, some not. The priest went over church etiquette so I guess they've been having issues with people not being very reverent.

Most likely New Rite which is fine it is all valid. Keep going and talk to the priest it is good practice to go up with your arms folded during communion as well so that the Priest May bless you.

It is a good practice to go for a month or two and pray building up your prayer life before jumping in. When you first start going the Lord will bless you with Condolences and then slowly roll them back. Many who have been away from the faith and returned can attest to this. The more Holy you become the harder the Devil works to make you fall.

God bless you anon. Now prepare yourself for the spiritual battle.

Feeling good is great but you need to be wary because the Devil will use the high you are in to bring you back down. Trust in the grace of God even when it gets dark.

Trust your life in Jesus’ hands. He will not let you fall. Learn the Hail Mary and pray to her to deliver your prayers to Jesus and his most Sacred Heart.

Do what >>818237 said but DO NOT consider it a requirement. Although I agree with him you need to take it one step at a time there is a habit with Trad Catholics and it is a good thing spreading what they know but they start throwing everything we have at potential new converts and it can be overwhelming and confusing.

If a Trinidintine mass is near by go and experience the pinnacle of our faith but don’t consider it a requirement for weekly worship. Again speak to the priest about your interest.

I am just going to confirm right now that NO and Latin mass are both valid forms of mass. Again it can be confusing for those first entering the Church.

But yes every Catholic should experience the Trinidintine Mass. But you are in no way obligated to go to one. Any Rite as long as it is in Communion with Rome even if just barely like the Spirit of Vatican 2 Norvus Ordo Churches will fulfill a Sunday Mass Obligations.

I actually just transferred to the Church down town specifically because the priest holds a weekly Latin Mass during the week and so holds a Norvus Ordo on Sunday as it was intended to be held by the Vatican 2 Council without all the theatrics and Protestant stuff. And I literally have a Catholic Church 100 yards from my house but they are full Spirit of V2.

tl;dr Norvus Ordo is valid and go to several different parishes before settling on one. Also don’t stretch yourself thin because spiritual burnout is a thing.

Post Vatican 2 churches committed a few errors. On our grounds of validity they are still valid and achieve the bare minimum spiritually. However as you progress further in spiritual growth you may want to consider finding a more traditionalist Church that will help you grow closer to God. After a few years bouncing around different Catholic Churches in my area it became very clear how different they could be.

Not to hijack OP's thread, but I'm not a Catholic, though am considering it. Never been to a Mass though, and wondering if I should start with a standard N.O. mass like >>818371 suggested, or just go straight to the FSSP one in my area.

Any good primers on Mass for prospective Catholics?

Go to the FSSP, with the Novus Ordo you generally don't know what you're getting. Prepare for a lot of kneeling–just follow along with what everyone does at Mass. Make sure not to receive the Eucharist, though.

Well, I think before you even go to Mass (still go! You get many graces!), you should try to talk to the priest there and get familiarized with everything first. See it so you can have RCIA catechesis education and you're familiarized with all the tenets and parts of the faith in belief and in practice :)

Did you really just blaspheme while calling out another person for not following a non-infalliable tradition of men?

2517af  No.821044

>>821008

it's not blasphemy

to blaspheme – from the greek 'blasphemos' – means to slander someone, giving a false report of them in a public setting such as a court of law, or bearing a false witness against them in the court of public opinion

(you may recall that God detests this sin so much, he commands against it in the tablets of stone given to moses)

but no, what he did was much worse, for by invoking the name of The Very Creator and Lord God merely to express his exasperation, he has dared to sully that most precious revelation of this Almighty and Consuming Fire; a name given to us by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords so that man might come to know this great God - so condescending and humble as to add to Himself a human nature - and taken it in vain

this is another sin which this same Lord commanded against, when revealing The Law to moses – and while it is true that all sin is ultimately committed against the Law-Maker, Who upholds the all that exists by His hand; there are degrees of evil that rebellious man can commit upon fellow man that pale by infinite comparison when despoiling that which is God's Name Above All Names

this casual demonstration of such a low view of God is horrendous, not only for the fact such an act of profanity is a crime against The Eternal - and thus merits Eternal Death - but that he knows so little of The Lord as to not hold this name a treasure beyond understanding, concerns me as to his fate when he meets this same Jesus Christ, for it is appointed once for man to die, and then the Judgement

i am that anon, and the initial post which started a discussion of taking the Lord's name in vain began with our friend here saying 'Jesus Christ' in exasperation at some advice to anon attending Mass – it seemed he didn't like the advice to cross one's arms to receive a blessing rather than the host, and preferred the attendee to stay in their pew

from that i assumed he was Roman Catholic, and i inferred from his remark that i was an 'Internet Catholic' that he felt he was a real one

now he seems to be pretending to be a protestant in order to trol you

Yes. Both Novus Ordo and the Latin mass are both valid forms of mass.

I've never been to one of these New Order masses. I've seen videos. The dancing girls, alter girls, and taking communion in the hands is just not my Mass.

I was baptized in the Latin Mass before Vatican II.
