KJV is the best English Bible, ESV is a close second (and you might actually want to start with it as a study Bible). Don't be so concerned about "becoming more religious", focus more on trying to have a real connection with God. Let the Holy Spirit guide you.

Depends each denom has their own bible to read. For the most part they are the same but there are translation differences between them that can make them vastly different.
- Catholic who has read the Bible.

If you're Catholic, then you should get a Catholic Bible, otherwise you're losing books from the OT. For NT I don't think it matters that much, because it's 21st century and you can compare verses between all available translations.
Also, I don't think you need specific translation to become more religious - what is important is that you read the Bible, pray and partake in sacraments often.

A Bible with a beautiful language certainly helps spiritually.
Compare KJV psalms with some new-age modernist translation. Heh

Are you Catholic? If so, the Douay-Rheims Version is a highly accurate translation containing all 73 divinely inspired books. If you find the language too archaic, the RSV:2CE is a decent modern translation. Btw, if you want to get "more religious", I'd recommend praying more often - the power of prayer is a wonderful thing.

NKJV is very good because it replaces all the archaic language with newer words.

Protip: Learn Koine Greek, OP!
Buy some books from a dude named Mounce or buy his flash cards if flash cards are your style (they're my style).
Then buy "UBS 5 Reader's Edition" from Amazon or CBD.com for a greek bible.
Profit.
