If you truly prayed…..regularly, you would not be able to fap. Fapping eliminates praying and vice versa. You can't fap and pray at the same time.

Always look to distract yourself whenever you're tempted. this link is decent but ultimately a psychological gimmick. please don't worship at the altar of modern psychology. "outlets" are a meme. God is all-powerful (as in ALL POWERFUL). many people think and act as though God is not more powerful than nebulous "psychological forces". they do not really believe God is ALL POWERFUL.

humility is the main key to purity. God allows people to fall into obvious sin to keep them out of the more serious sin of pride.

trying to nofap out of a desire of "self-improvement" is, I won't say doomed to fail, but it's a trap such that even if you succeed, the "success" is going to do more harm than good.

to pray profitably you need to know who God is, that means daily spiritual reading and lifelong education in the faith. the more you know about God the more of him you can find to love, and since he is infinite you will never run out of new goodnesses to praise and love in him

Love God above all else, no matter what, and trust him completely, and everything else will fall into place.

Go to your local church/parish/community, find people who are struggling or have dealt with this issue in the past; talk with them and your priest/pastor, open up to them: my biggest regret and mistake was thinking I was alone and that I was able to do this alone.

Have courage, God will never send us a test we cannot pass! Pray, fast and train yourself, and learn to detach yourself from technology, a step at the time: use your smartphone less and less, maybe spend a whole day without turning it on, without using your laptop/desktop PC/mac, and pick up a book and the Bible…silence and inner meditation under God's guidance can help immensely.

Pray that you may become stronger in your faith and adhere to his will. Do this and it will become second nature and lustful thoughts will immediately turn to pray and you won't dwell on these things.

Since /nofap/ is a pretty slow board I'll ask my brothers in Christ as well. My longest streak so far is 39 days, the reason I keep failing is because I will wake up in the middle of the night with my heart racing and really intense cravings. In all seriousness though, this is what happened for me. I wasn't as religious at the time, and I started dating the woman who is my fiancee now. Over time, we've both become much closer to God in the time we've spent together.

Take heed though, don't fall into lustful desires. I did this and it weighs on me now. We're each the only person the other has been with, and we're getting married, but I still struggle with it. Part of me feels like we're already man and wife, but I feel like I'm lying to myself and that shouldn't excuse me.

It's become my hurdle like fapping is for so many of our brothers. Let me tell you, if you thought it was hard to stop jerking off to porn, it's a nightmare trying to stop having intimate sex with the person you love.

It's a good book. It's true that psychology is gimmicks and things of that nature, that does not mean it is entirely without value. Psychology is in many ways an imitation of Christianity, at least in terms of pathologies, sin, impulses, self-control, attention, etc.

That book is about repentance in psychological language. I posted it in the purity thread because I have read enough "self-help" nonsense and found Carr's work to be one of the few gems in that entire area.

You can adapt the terminology and things in that book into the Christian faith. I wouldn't dismiss it so quickly without giving it a sincere and thorough try.

Self-control is what monastics and ascetics cultivate. If you can control one aspect of your life, and resist or even extinguish one kind of sinful impulse why not expand that to every other sin and vice? If you can find a way to develop virtue with ease why not pursue it? Humility and chastity are such examples, and Wisdom is the grandparent of them all.

NoFap and psychological things can even provide you with enough wisdom that humility bears down on you like a tsunami. Self-control is a powerful method for practicing and understanding humility.

I've been recently restored to repentance, complete and total breaking of chains. Habits that I would seemingly be possessed to commit daily, especially that of lust, I commit more and more infrequently, and every time I commit them it grieves my heart more and more. When I DO fail, it's because I'm relying on myself and not the Lord. RUN from temptation. Try beating your meat when you're in your prayer closet communicating with the Lord of creation, try giving into your lusts when you're praising his Holy name. The Lord promises us a way out when we are tempted, the final choice is ours and it is conscious and deliberate, dont be deceived, you are never overcome, especially when you are in the Lord

Disregard this poster. Don't sin. If you fail, repent. If you succeed, give glory to God. But this whole "it's literally impossible to choose not to sin" nonsense got started with Martin Luther and it has corrupted many souls.

It isn't complicated. Choose not to sin. You will sometimes fail, but just pick yourself back up and continue to carry your cross. Deny yourself for the Lord. Don't adopt this poster's defeatist mentality.
