I'm mainly an anime guy and it's been like 5 years since I last finished a videogame. Is there such a thing as comfy videogames? If so, can anyone recommend me so some good ones to play on friday nights?

The closest thing I know of is Katawa Shoujo but I think that's more so because of the OST plus it's a VN so there isn't any real gameplay. Others I've played that kind of had a comfy feel to it were Recettear and some obscure Japanese 3D platformer I sadly can't figure the name of but it's on steam so I might find out later.

Sometimes it's games where you're given freedom like Stardew, Banished or Stellaris, sometimes it's games that just suck you into their world like Mass Effect or Bloodlines, sometimes it's games with great OST and character interactions like Blue Reflection and Trails in the Sky, sometimes a game just has great gameplay like Attack on Titan 2 and Akiba's Trip. Just depends on what I'm playing really, each different game is comfy for different reasons and I have a wide taste.

I have yet to try out the Persona games as hope to one day. I've heard they're comfy.

But if you want some comfy games I'd go for more of the eastern lookings one if you're coming in from anime. Akiba's Trip has you walking around Akiba fighting and stripping vampires. Blue Reflection is a magical girl game is an awesome OST and art style, combat is fairly easy and the translation is kinda poor but I liked it. Attack on Titan is violent but it has downtime between missions and swinging around slicing necks never gets old. Koei games are a bit expensive so I wouldn't blame you if you pirated. Speaking of One Piece Warriors 3 is the epitome of Musou and goes through 650+ chapters of the manga, up to Dressrosa. No filler either. Danganronpa is more VN but has its mini games and it's who dun it plot, love the artstyle. Oh! And Valkyria Chonicals is on PC, another very good one.

If you want to find something comfy, take a few chances and see what you like.

I've been wanting to play Akiba's Trip ever since watching anime actually but I never managed to find a torrent for it, at least not from a trustworthy site. I can imagine there may not be much value to spoonfeeding a random anon but if you've got a magnet for it or something, I would great appreciate you posting it.

I'm not really sure if I can even legally buy it as it doesn't seem to be downloadble on any legal platform such as Steam or GOG (but I hate steam so I'm not sure if I would had bought it, even it did have the game) nor any local stores.

>I have yet to try out the Persona games as hope to one day. I've heard they're comfy.

I played Persona 3 on a PSP emulator once but dropped it after a few minutes because I realised that I didn't wasn't really in the mood for a game. But yeah, I've read that the semi-open world the game presents you with has a very comfortable feeling, similar to slice of life anime set in high school with things like club activities and usable vending machines and that was the main motivation for me playing it. I've wanted to play the Yakuza games for similar reasons but that hasn't been released on the PC yet from what I know.

Yakuza 0 is on Steam but has denuvo, waiting for it to be pirated before I play it. Shenmue 1 and 2 came out recently and it's like Yakuza but I'll check that out later.

I used to play loads of Terraria. Animal Crossing is super comfy, I used to play it whenever I got sick in elementary school in my bed with a bowl of soup. Also Doom 2 is pretty comfy for me because of nostalgia from playing it with my brother as a kid, I doubt many other people would really find it comfy though.

I'm pretty surprised that Minecraft hasn't been suggested yet. Any version before it was bought by Microsoft is top tier comfy, Microsoft added too many useless blocks that don't do anything interesting and ruined the combat by making it take a really long time to kill mobs.

I like the RPG megaman battle network series. Young idealistic protagonist with his personal network navigator- “netnavi” - megaman. Your “browse” the internet via 2.5D map and foght internet mafia to save the world. Its for GBA and is about trust, determination, friendship and spirit. Good storylines too i think. Everyone should play them.

Kirby. I'm surprised nobody's said this yet. The Dream Land subseries (including 64) are the comfiest of the bunch.

Paper Mario 1 and The Thousand Year Door

Atelier

Early Tomb Raider games, which had more focus on puzzles and traversal

Resident Evil (1-0), somehow, is both comfy and unsettling for me

Metroid (especially Super and Prime 1), in the same way as Resi

Advance Wars

Zachtronics games, if they fit with how you think

Picross 3D Round 2, has some fantastic music

>>56

If you want to play the Yakuza games, start with 1 and 2 on PS2 (which can be emulated). Yes, there are remakes of those games, but you shouldn't play them first, as they were designed as a follow-up to 0. Sadly, there's no undub of 1, but 2 contains an optional summary of the events of 1, so you can safely skip the first entry.

>>57

Shenmue I and II also has Denuvo over Steam, so you might want to avoid. If you can, play both on Dreamcast.

>>104

This is a pretty good list. I can vouch for Layton, Dragon Quest 5, and Ridge Racer Type 4 as hitting that sweet spot between interaction and repetition. FF12 is also good, but I know that's a more divisive entry. Ace Attorney always got a little boring for me, despite the games having good writing. GTA 4 and RDR also had poor pacing, didn't stay comfy past 10 or hours for me.

I've seen that get praised everywhere but the last time I try I didn't like it very much. I think it's because a game where you just walk around and look at the world around you doesn't work very well in 2D. I would love a 3D game that kind of looks similar to the area around that big tree in the ending of Majora's Mask where you just walk around and appreciate the beauty of low-poly nature.

That reminds me: I would love to play Journey one day, it's been on my methaporical backlog since it came out but I don't have a PS3 and don't really feel like buying one. It's a 3D puzzle game without any enemies or ways to die and you just roam around through this beautiful desert to reach the final goal which is some mountain. If anyone here has any of the consoles it was released on and the ability to purchase it, I would highly recommend it.

Can a game not be comfy if it has some degree of violence?

I find roguelikes like CDDA, DF, NH to be extremely comfy, especially CDDA where you can make a movable wheeled house, invite NPCs and drive through the world map, stopping in towns to find fuel and food. Making a shelter, bunker or a fort is fun, too, but tinkering with your abomination of a vehicle that you use to drive through masses of mobs just feels a lot more comfy for me.

Roguelikes kind of stop being comfy when you get into unescapable, absolutely desperate situations, but such situations have their own charm and they can be pretty fun.

I personally enjoy flying DCS and reading a good book at the same time.

1) Pick plane you like

2) Slap on fuel-tanks and fill her up

3) set weather to worst conditions imaginable (night, stormy, no moon)

4) take off using instruments only

5) set course for some distant airport

6) try to get above the clouds with maximum fuel load

7) read book while listening to engine noise, occasionally correct course

8) set up instruments for instrument only landing

9) contact ATC

10) attempt to land
