Very much a serious parody…

The drying of the Sahara left hundreds of thousands displaced and rift in the peoples of the world and those of Africa. This divide is only dramatized when instead of climate change its caused by Ethereal forces drawing the very life of earth's surface away to feed their growing power.

Slumbering after their feast, the once lush forest and open Savannah's are a gaping hole in the ground that was slowly filling with water. This Oasis among the sands was a refuge to those that had survived as well as a breeding ground for spirits, creatures fueled by the Ethereal power that saturated the Oasis.

Nearly Two Thousand years later the Sahara lay dead and the blood shed of war was dying it's sands red. The growing Roman Empire was waging war with Egypt, refuges of the conflict caught between 3 enemies fled west to certain death across the Wastes. Only… they returned wielding the power of spirits and new techniques they liberated Egypt from occupation and began to genocide the Nubians that had turned them away just years ago.

The power wielded by the new rulers of Egypt however had people looking away from the bloodshed, towards the Sahara and the secrets it held. You and many other like you had made a journey to this Oasis, this bizarre place full of monsters and spirits in search of something. Only time can tell if you'll find it…

Character Name: Berengara

Age: 19

Sex: Female

Lore: Berengara was born on the Island of The Batavians in the Lower Rhine to a Batavian Father and a Norse Mother. Her Mother was the daughter of a strong Norse King who had decided to stop fighting and consolidate his holdings. Being a Shieldmaiden, she was upset with what she perceived as cowardice and took those who wanted to keep fighting as well and sailed south into the Rhine. There, she ambushed Berengara's Father, the son of a Batavian Chieftain who was scouting at the time. He was captured, but instead of trying to ransom him to his Father, she marched into the Camp with him and told them that he and his unit fought strongly and bravely, and that she would take him as a mate and join the tribe with her people. Berengara's Father was a good fighter and commander, but never aspired to lead the Tribe and so it was agreed. Years later, the Tribe agreed that they should learn about the encroaching Romans before they reach them, so they sent Berengara, who was 10 at the time, with some other tribemates to head south into Roman towns and learn their customs. The Batavians engaged in trade with the Romans and decided they were not so bad, but Berengara was enraptured by their people and culture, especially since her Mother's warmongering and dominating personality etched off on her. She joined a Roman Auxiliary unit at 14 without her parents blessing and campaigned against Gauls and fellow Germans for a few years before returning home after she finished her term. She told her parents about this magical place far to the south where the Blue Men live, where the Gods allow their pets to roam the land and that they even grant their power to those who are worthy of it. Her parents knew they could not keep her with them, not that her Mother wanted to, and so they tested her skills in combat before deciding whether to allow her to go. Her parents were truly skilled warriors and normally she would lose to them, but the discipline and strict regiment training she learned from the Romans gave her the upperhand and she won her right to leave. Her Father gave her some Roman Coins and a Necklace with the symbol of Wōđanaz, while her Mother handed her Spear to her, stating that it has been passed down from Mother to Daughter for over 10 generations. After a bit of travelling and spending half her gold on extra supplies and a Camel, she finally made it to the God's lands.

Character Name: Alketas

Age: 28

Sex: Male

Lore: Hailing from the land of Antigonus, in the once-proud kingdom of Macedon, Alketas was born several decades too late for the destiny that awaited him. Born to a noble family of the Macedonian province, having fallen to Rome some years ago, Alketas was afforded more comfort then most. He was trained in the classical combat methods of the Greeks and Macedonians, and was even afforded his own set of armor, sarissa, and engraved kopis, bearing the name of his family, who claimed descent from Perseus himself. As such his shield bore the head of a gorgon, and shone almost as bright as a mirror from its varnish. Though his people were subservient to the Romans, Alketas's father taught him the past of his people, of the Empire of Alexander, and how it fell to the petty squabbles of his generals. He taught Alketas a lesson that those men would have been wont to learn; humility. It was this humility that allowed him to survive then the Macedonians rose up against the Romans just 4 scant years ago. While his fellow Macedonians would rather die then flee when the Romans, Alketas knew that a smart man would regain his strength and live to fight another day rather then die young and stupid, so he didn't fight to the last, but rather lead a breakout contingent to free themselves from the siege of Pella, and fled to Egypt. The journey took several years, travelling by foot through much of the middle east. He even spent a year in Pontus, learning of their cavalry which even the mighty Roman Equities feared, armored head to toe in mail, along with their horses. He finally arrived on the Edge of the Sinai desert when the Nubians attacked. The Kangz of the Upper Nile, having sweltered under the sandals of Ptolemaic oppression for too long, rose up and cast out the descendants of Alexander. Unwilling to see more of his forebearers once -proud empire fall, Alketas fought to save what people he could, and lead those that fled to a newgound refuge, an oasis in the recently expanding desert.

The Oasis, a new home for him, and for others like him. He would either conquer the desert, or be swallowed by the shifting sands.

Character Name: Nemo

Age: 22

Sex: Male

Lore: Nemo is an attractive young soldier with an exotic look. Rumour has it his grandmother was Egyptian but when asked, Nemo refuses to talk about his heritage. Stories are passed between the people that know him and say he was raised by a wealthy, influential couple that disowned him and urged him into the military when he became of age and he doesn't speak of them for he's ashamed. The truth is, he doesn't talk about family because he's never known family. An independent child, Nemo only remembers living on the street. He made friends with older philosophers and council members and whatever he couldn't aquire himself, they would provide him with in exchange for his company. Elusive, witty, and diplomatic, it was easy for Nemo to work others into a corner and turn their words against them. Blackmailing them and getting his way through his sharp tongue. Eventually he reached an age where he couldn't get away with his normal antics as easily and so he joined the military but after a defeat by the magic weilding Egyptians, Nemo escaped with his life but dared not go back because he knew he'd be branded as a deserter. He stowed away on a caravan headed towards a new land for refugees.

Character Name:Abbas Sadesh

Age: 44

Sex: Male

Lore: Abbas started as an engineer and a horseman in Persia, where for thousands of years they scratched out Empires and Nations despite the burning sun and the dry sands. This they did through skill and wisdom, by establishing networks of fast horse routes. A man rides a horse at full gallop to the next water source, where a fresh horse waited for him, such that he could cover far longer than he could with one horse.

So it was that in his travels, he headed west in search of fortune and the mysteries of Great Rome. Wherefore he saw how the Romans would use mighty stone Aqueducts to bring water where there was none, allowing them to live even in the dry valleys.

He spent much time in Rome learning their architectural skills, until one day the Romans hired him to head to the great Oasis. He had experience in the desert travel, and was an engineer. They wanted to hire him to build a path from the Oasis to the Roman Coastal Town to the South, to use Aqueducts and rest stops with stored water to allow for more people and beasts to cross in and out of the Oasis, and make it Roman. Thinking about the glory and prestige of building such a thing, he set out on his journey, hoping to find enough workers and enough wiling roman hands to do what Romans do best: build a road.

1-?; Fick me, I need a drink. Hope these damnable merchants open up the good stuff so I can stop drinking this grog, had enough water and piss wine. Hmmmm, I'll need a place to sleep too, probably just have to bunk with the nurses and priestesses for a bit. Ugh, I'll need to find a proper group to go adventuring with, gotta find one that won't be little pansy bitches. Well, lets get acquainted with where all the important people are setting up shop first before getting food and drink and then bunking down. Actually, I could assist these peddlers in unpacking their goods for some extra coin and supplies…

I will attempt to assist around town. Some work will make the settlers more friendly too me and more willing to share information.

My main goal is of course to find as much information as possible everything from other settlements to rumors of what creatures are out there and where. Maybe I'll even be able to find a couple other Romans here to assist me in my hunting. At night I'll eat at whatever passes for a tavern here. Maybe some decent food and definitely some good information as the locals get drunk.

I'll post char sheet with the rolls.

First on the list is finding some sort of long-term shelter, even if I have to build it myself.

As long as it keeps me nice and comfortable during the many sandstorms that will likely hit the area and keep me cool from the hot desert sun, it will be acceptable.

Next I'll visit the caravan town in order to establish relations and get supplies to build my house. Long-term survival will likely be dependent on trade, so making friends with these people would indeed be a very good idea.

I should see if there are any jobs that can make use of my abilities and put some coin in my pocket as well while I'm at the caravan city.

They flank your age to both sides, the younger a clean cut 17 year his brother a burly 23 year old. Both are quite smitten with you and constantly compete for your affection…

>>42364

1.(63) - you are able to gather enough timber from the Growing trees around the Oasis, the long treks an backbreaking work leave you exhausted, and unable to…

2.(17) - work on working that lumber into a shelter. You sleep under the stars most nights and use you clothing to shield your face from sand storms.

3.(64) - Most of the Romans here are more concerned with profits or their orders, largely ignoring the glimpse they get of you as you go about your labor.

>>42365

1. (46) - You go about working throughout the town trying to gain the hearts of the people. Most seem fairly self sufficient, they being the people that made it this far. Few however turn away an honest neighbor, or free labor and throughout the week you find yourself no shortages of task. (+23 as and 5 lb of rations)

2. (31) - Most of the land is barren or filled with people already looking to settle. If you were wanting to stay near the growing City then you would likely be forced to continue bunking with others in tents.

>>42367

Tiberius Ignatius Flavius

1.(22) - your shelter is little more than a hastily tacked down tent, it offer enough protection to allow you to sleep through the storms and offer shade during the scorching noon.

2.(33) - You are able to use this time to gather supplies, mostly things to set up your tent with but a second empty waterskin is found and quickly filled (+1 waterskin (1lb full))

3.(30) - You add some coinage to you pouch to the tune of 6 as after a odd job, you don't find many as you aren't to keen to do other's laundry.

>>42374

Janus Servanus

1.(82) - You procure stay in small caravan circle as you grow accustomed to the Oasis, spending your time eating and drinking what the locale has to offer. They are happy to hear new stories after such a long journey and allow you to stay for as long as you like.

>>42379

Flavius Caius Paccetti

1.(35) - You gather one ally who is willing to follow you in your adventures, he is but a common soldier.

2.(56) - The Caravan City is mostly a collection of tents housing merchants who are either looking to profit of those failing or whatever passes as trade goods around here. Nearly two thirds of the population are either merchant or scouts for merchant to see if their bosses should come on down. Leaving those actually finding the good in short supply, this is likely do to them being under-prepared for the trek and having died in the Wastes. The current rumors at the local "watering holes" is about a creature living in between this Oasis and the next. A Guardian to the Oasis if you must, and reptilian beast that ran across the sand preying on the humans trying to get though. They hunted in packs and came chest high to a Roman man, if people were expecting to start heading inwards they had a large obstacle in their way.

Abbas goes around helping with local cavaners in setting up the colony. He was, experienced in establishing desert living from his time in Persia, further aided by his ventures with the Romans in Judea and Africa.

He would apply some of his architectural skills, and gain some friends and allies per chance. Over the week, he'd take a look at what people might be helpful in building the small aqueduct, to ferry water from the oasis deeper into desert to aid more caravans in arriving.

My food is getting low and I'll need to replenish it soon. To do this I should take my pilums and hunt for food. If my hunting is unsuccessful I could always buy some with the coins I obtained.

I should also take the time to upgrade my lodgings, this tent doesn't seem very dependable…

And as always, look for anything of interest and ask around for quests or rumors of interesting things. This oasis is large and mysterious, there has to be something that'll come up.

1. Spending the last two weeks building one of the few permanent structures in the oasis, had called some attention to you. This attention was worrying as you were approached by a number Roman Soldiers looking to gain lodging in you large and sturdy home, at least when compared to a tent. Truthfully nearly eighty people had approached you seeking lodging, some of them quite attractive… (+Wooden Structure, it will likely need to be reinforce and improved upon but it was far superior and more permanent than a tent)

1. It seems to have become common knowledge that as you traveled further to the east a pack of wild beasts was "blocking" the path. Unless you were prepared for a fight you shouldn't head directly East.

2. You reach a second larger Oasis after three more grueling days of walking, this Oasis seems to me far more lively than the last. Large Trees grow and large nests seem to dot the terrain. The Large beast that likely made them seem to be missing for now and most are devoid of any eggs though a number of shells are scattered around the place.

Leaving you dealing with slow forming mud brick and cloth. (+Pavilion is nearly completed, it needs more weight to keep it from blowing over but it far more stable than most of the recently erected tents that slowly being replaced across the "city")

I should continue fishing, as it seems that is a more steady source of food around here than hunting what little game animals are around here.

Then I'll continue baking mudbricks and making a proper house out of the pavillion frame I've built.

After things on the homefront are taken care of I'll assist with any efforts to clear out the giant beasts and reach the oasis, more people will increase our odds of success greatly.

Investigate the Egg Shells and see what tactical uses they have. Either way, pack the camel to max and take a bunch with us back to the Settlement. These shells can be sold to merchants who can possibly use for paints and concrete and other uses for high Denarii. Be vague about where we found them if they ask, they will probably find out anyways, but it's better for us to prolong their discovery of the new oasis for a bit longer. Begin to build my new home (think of the ideal land as a sort of resort in the oasis, lush, relaxed.) and continue building friendships among the community of the oasis. With news of beasts around the oasis I shall begin to train with my chariot and spear, I must be ready to defend these people if need be.

I could work with this cabin. Use it to make an income. Funny how I've gone from no permanent home to having the only permanent home in the oasis. I should begin reinforcing it and building new rooms so I can take in more guests where they'd be more comfortable. As for those that want lodging already, they may stay as long as they like, up until I have more rooms, for 5 silver denarii. If they don't have the coin, I'm willing to trade food, drink or manual labor. If nobody trades food or drink, I shall go buy some myself to provide for my guests

Seeing that he would need to build respect among the locals, Abbas puts his time and efforts into the local infrastructure entirely. Before they could build the small rest stops, they ought to have a town worth coming to in the first place. For the glory of Rome (and his own pride) he would nurture this province in whatever way he could.

Need to look for merchants willing to purchase the Egg Shells. Showcase the large size of the shells and how they might come from a magical creature and have magical uses! Don't mention where we get the eggs yet, so the price can stay high for a while longer..After that, hmmmm, do some work around the Oasis for food, we can use to this show ourselves as useful and valuable members of the colony that are worth hiring. We also need a book smarts guy. I can lead, but I have to admit I don't know much of the world. Having a Roman or Greek scholar, or perhaps even one from the East would be a great asset to our group and could serve to help the scholar as well. I should spend my spare time training with the boys and use that as an opportunity to learn about them. Easiest way to see a man's Soul is through fighting.

Hmm, I am doing quite well by fishing. Hoever, it seems the caravan town nearby is not being so lucky. I think I'll turn this into a worthwhile opportunity, by fishing up more fish and selling it to the traders and whatnot there. Those who can't pay with money or supplies are free to join my enterprise and earn their keep in more stable lands. I will teach my new follower how to fish as well…give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you'll feed him for a lifetime.

I'll also likely need a good, reliable fishing rod as well. I might as well see if I can craft one from any supplies I might find lying around during my spare time.

After having trained with my bow, i can feel myself becoming better at aiming with it. After i realise that i have lost some arrows, i begin finding some wood, that i can use to make more arrows. Not only that i spend some time with my pet, where i begin feeding him and giving him water to make sure that he is feed. After that i begin looking arround for more prey/food, which i hope that i can use to barter for items. I begin training with my sword, since i know that i may need to finish of prey in close combat in the future, in order to survive.

Alketas stumbles upon the merchant as he is gathering the bricks for the house from the sunny spot he had allowed them to dry in, on a small boat rowing across the oasis. He calls out to the man, who by now he considered a good friend. The man, upon hearing Alketas's voice, rows faster.

Reacting Quickly, Alketas picks up one half of his Sarissa, essentially serving as a ακόντιο, which he then hurled at the man, striking him in the back of the head. A quick swim later to retrieve his weapon and a small sack the man was carrying reveals only a single ring, made from gold, with a faint inscription that glows brighter when near heat.

(Meta Info: the Ring gives a passive +15 to all NPC persuasion rolls, if the character using the ring has access to mana this bonus is raised to +40 at the cost of a mana, The Ring does however lower Max health by 1 every time it is used to a max of 5, this number is reset if you do not use the ring for two turns)

Well, I have no more need of these extra explorer's goods, best sort through them and keep what is valuable at the house, and sell the rest. That will take only but a small amount of my time, the rest can be spent looking for any edible, tillable crops that we could grow, lord knows how long till we find a surefire steady supply of food here, best to start growing it ourselves.
