69d58c No.39743
The Kingdom of Clarent, once a shining land, full of peace, prosperity before you and your masters declared war on it. Such a weak area, no strife, no struggle, nothing to keep them motivated and strong. It was the will of the Council of Five that Clarent would fall and it's land and resources taken, it's people enslaved, it's magics learned and it's false gods destroyed. Thus the Seventh Imperial Army Marched to war.
The Pass of Kargas fell within a month, the fortresses of the pass totally shattered. Their soldiers fell under the hordes of orc barbarians, kobold zealots, human soldiers, and skeleton walkers. Their mages killed before taking the field by Darkblade Assassins, Drow Shadows, and misty vampires. Their walls cracked by the sheer might of Rock throwing giants, Mighty Dragons, Drow Magisters, Demons of Grond, and undead juggernauts. The victory of the Seventh was absolute and total, in other words, perfect.
Normally, this sort of momentum would be celebrated, and it WAS celebrated, but each Imperial Army is a microcosm of the Council of Five. The Church of Grond and it's human supplicants, the Orcish and Greenskin Hordes of Great Chief Gundebax, the Bound undead of the Archlich Thrayze, the Progeny, mates and zealots of the Dragon Queen Svezen'la'hareth and The scions of the great ClanCity Mandozelan all struggle to progress their faction's agendas, and most importantly, themselves in various and sundry ways. With the easy victories they accumulated at the pass followed by taking cities and towns with ease, the army slowly became less concerned about forces of Clarent and more concerned with internal politics. This in turn made what followed even more damning.
The seventh took city after city, rampaging across the land and sowing despair and ruin upon the natives of Clarent as they went. Soon all that still stood bright and proud was the Capital, and the fringe cities too far away to levy an effective force to reinforce it in time. The Seventh march and broke the defenders on an open field with contemptuous ease. It was so easy that many forces broke ranks and charged after the retreating defenders, the wary either being forced to follow to not be caught alone in an easy to take fragment or forgetting themselves trying to gain glory. This lead the Seventh into a most cunning and devastating trap. First once the Seventh and run pasts most of it's stationary wards and defenses a grand banishing happened. Undead were burned to ash or sent fleeing away at best speed for hours into ensorcelled night that was receding away. Demons of Grond simply were returned home, with great force, bound to their Hell until re-summoned. The Seventh reeled as more than a fifth of it's power was stripped away, then the enemy started fighting back in earnest. The formerly utterly defeated army wheeled about and stood it's ground, even as cavalry hidden from the sight of divination hit the flanks like a falling hammer. Angels summoned or perhaps just forcing their way into the material for Justice fell upon the beleaguered Imperial army. Spell, stones and siege ammunitions fell upon them as well. killing scores or more a strike. Heroes fought the remaining leadership, catching them flat footed and killing most. What was to be the day of the seventh's victory in Clarent instead marked the turning point of the war.
Shortly after this massive loss, the ailing kingdom revolted against their betters all over, throwing down imperial banners and slaughtering those who had aided them. Raiders and reavers were hunted down and executed. Cities and town retaken, all excepting Karagan. Their the shattered remains of the Seventh rallied and called the Council for support. But no support would come. The Empire has too many conflcits across the world to waste another Army on Clarent. The Seventh WOULD take Clarent, and do so without support of another Imperial Army. This specific wording gave carte blanche for hiring mercenaries and attracting the personal forces of various lords, ladies, and others as well as seeking allies with Clarent's neighbors. This was followed by a small trickle of forces released into the Seventh and promotions for many survivors.
You are one such officer, loyal to one of the Five, you seek to make you fame and fortune in the ruins of this war at Clarent's expense. Be brutal, be cunning, be unpredictable, because Clarent is rebuilding their ruined land to wipe you off the face of the map, and they will not be your only problem…

FACTIONS
The Church of Grond - Grond is the God of Domination, Brutality, Conquest and Rule. His is one and main church of the Empire. Humans make up a large part of his faithful and not so faithful. It is standard practice for all clerics of his to serve in the army for a few years, or even longer. Officially only those of the faith are allowed to be part of the Imperial Army in fact, due to the Church's immense width, breadth and influence. However as long as you know the basics of the faith and ape through following it, you too can join the Army! The Church of Grond as such typically fields a wide variety of units and heroes, even those that would not normally be part of their bailiwick because of them being the catch all for most humans. However the upper Echelons are still in large part dominated by Grond's Clergy. As such they are a high amount of strong Clerics, demons and Blackguards as heroes and elites.
Pros
-Strong elites and Heroes with solid variety
- Fairly structured
-You can get divine boons from Grond with some piety and luck
-Very large troop spread to draw from.
Cons
-Needs supply lines
-Troops need training
-Vulnerable to Holy and anti-evil effects
-can be challenged if you fail to uphold the divine tenants
Great Horde - The horde has waxed and waned sicne time immemorial, driven by its denizen's drive to kill plunder, rape and gorw strong, it bashed itself against the Empire repeatedly until The Emperor broke it's cheif and bent it to his will. Now Gundebax the current chief controls the horde and embodies the orcish and orc-kin deities of might and power. The greenskins and their kin and allies are numerous, fecund and brutish. Naturally stronger and tougher than most in exchange for in general being slower of wit and less industrious. They respect only strength of arms, and can and will challenge them at any time.
Pros
-LOTS of standard units
-Don't need much for supplies
-Don't need much if any training
-Can recruit more troops easily
Cons
-Elites and heroes may challenge you to rule at literally any time
-Gear it typically pretty crap
- You have few spell casting or sneak troops
-Your forces are less an army than a mob, morale is VERY swingy

Undead of the Archlich - Thrayze is ancient even by the standards of lichdom. He was ancient even when the Emperor walked the earth freely, being the court wizard of the time. He is as mad as he is brilliant, and vice versa, his intellect forming and hatching subtle and vicious plans when not distracted by arcane lore or the workings of an undead of an automaton. His followers are all manner of undead and necromancers, fueling his army of undead to acquire more lore for him at his behest.
Pros
-Hordes of units
-Can turn defeated enemies into soldiers of your own
-Don't need supply lines
-Don't need training
-Morale is non issue for the mooks
Cons
-Eccentric leader who can confiscate things for study (you may or may not get them back)
-VERY weak to holy and unholy
-more advanced undead take more to make and maintain
-Loss of a necromancer means loss of his bound units (unless they are self sustaining which means they need to eat people)
Scions of the Dragon Queen - Svezen'la'hareth is the other member of the council old enough to remember the Emperor. It was she who saw his growing power and decided that she would allow herself to bargain with him instead of crushing him. This was wise because the last five dragons to fight him died horribly, his cape made from their heartscales. Since she joined the empire she and her progeny has flourished, her horde growing ever larger as her spawn and zealous subjects have spread across the land increasing her influence power.
Pros
-Mooks have no morale
-Elites/heroes are strong, highly mobile and hit hard
-You can find valuable items and resources easier
Cons
-Units have poor upgrade progression
-Heroes and Elites are difficult to manage and placate, especially without gifts of loot
-The queen demands tribute at times

Drow of Mandozelan - The Drow, treacherous, illusive and cruel denizens of the darkness beanth the surface of the world. Mendozelan long has been beneath the empire and instead of scorning it and raiding it like other cities sought to trade with it and work with it at times. This saved it from destruction during a purge and the Matriarch of the city selling out several other cities earned her a spot on the council. The Drow rarely fight directly in the army, typically are support caster, assassins or other types of indirect combatants, leaving the direct fight to other from the under dark like deep ones, ithilid or hulks.
Pros
-great indirect combat troops
-can hire mercenaries from below
-many units have poison and/or stealth
-your supply lines are hard to disrupt
Cons
-Generally poorer in direct battle
-Your subordiantes are always plotting and politicking behind your back
-Poisons and rarer re-agents for magic can be expensive
-Sunlight SUUUUCKS

Name: Black Jack
Faction: Undead of the Archlich
Race: Vampire
Class: Jester/Necromancer
History: Ah, Black Jack. The Archlich's court jester. In life he was a butler for a king of ages past, but the vampiric curse along with long decades of undeath have picked away at his sanity - much to the Archlich's delight - leaving only the glib and maniacal harlequin puppeteer, in charge of all sorts of games and treachery for the glory of the Seventh…or perhaps just because the Archlich thought it would be funny to watch him fight.
Black Jack can do a variety of things - tell jokes, use black magic, raise the dead, do funny dances, and so on. He also loves singing, dancing, playing chess (he makes his own rules), juggling souls and drinking elf blood. He hates the number 5 (he doesn't like the way it looks at him), the color yellow, banishment spells, and people who can't take a joke.
Of course, Black Jack can still think for himself and can be quite cunning at times despite his short attention span, and despite his idiotic appearance he has a knack for devising cunning, maniacal and downright sadistic plans.
In combat, Black Jack relies upon being random and unpredictable, which combined with a bit of illusion magic and necromancy make for a dangerous combination. His raised units tend to match his personal tastes, with his skeletons telling jokes as they bring their axes down upon their foes, banshees singing drinking songs, farting zombies, and whatever else may tickle the Archlich's funny bone. But none of that subtracts from the fact that they're excellent killing machines.

Name: Gunn and Garl
Faction: great Horde
Race: Ettin (Two Headed Ogre)
Class: Barbarian Warlord and "strategist"
History: Some say two heads are better than one others have met an Ettin. Each head as smart as any other ogre and both agreeing that they are extremely intelligent. These two (one?) lunkheads decided that their commanders plan of sabotaging the enemies supplies and poisoning their wells then assaulting in a few days was boring and stupid so they smashed him to a paste and led the forces into a victory with only 50% casualties and captured the ruins of a very nice fortress for the horde. The two of them probably would've been killed off by now if they weren't so popular among all the other big stupid brutes who likely would've done the same to the boring orc given half the chance. Now he leads his warparty around as a self-proclaimed siege expert which generally works out thanks to the abnormally large percentage of other ogres, trolls, and other monstrous creatures (It was already a siege focused army Gunn just inherited it and made all the other idiots happy by ignoring the siege tactics built for smaller species in favour of walking up smashing the gates with clubs and hammers then smashing everyone inside). The only real advantages Gunn has over others of his ilk is an amazing self-confidence in his decisions, two heads to filter out all the abysmally bad decisions (unless both heads thinks it sounds like fun) and an extra set of eyes to make it very hard to sneak up on him.

Name: Wrelen Blught
Faction: Undead of the Archlich
Race: Human *spoiler*For Now*spoiler*
Class: Necromancer
History: They say that any person who takes to the path of necromancy must contain at least a little amount of insanity. In Wrelen's case she got a bit more than most. Ever since first reading and hearing about him she had the fascination with the Thrayze. At first she was too young to quite understand these feelings but as she grew older she realized the truth. She loved the lich, and to her insane mind he must love her as well. She has spent years studying the intricacies of necromancy, and through her studies has heard rumors of the path towards lichdom. Most accounts tell of those who try being disappeared or straight up killed by Thrayze for attempting to match him in power but Wrelen knows that he is just waiting for someone to spend all of eternity in love with and not some power angry mage. Which is why she has made it her meaning in life to reach the immortality provided by lichdom. And nothing will get in her way.

Considering the undead have been so favored for warlords I will, for the sake of my sanity and for the sake of you not getting utterly rolled over for over specializing, put a three player limit per faction. Meaning unless Glits, TBR or White death drop no more undead pcs.

Name: Etangueld
Faction: Scions of the dragon queen
Race: Young Adult Dragon
Class: No class (oh! HEY-O!)
History: A thoroughly ruthless and conniving usurer, Etangueld is so insanely greedy and stingy that his nickname among other dragons is ((("penny pincher"))). Despite this far in excess even for a dragon greed, Etangueld is not an unreasonable being, and has at times been bought off by tribute or by contractual agreements being in play, though ruthless contractual trickery is usually in play with Etangueld. Etangueld is distinctive among dragons because he survived a near miss from lava and an area of his scales fused and changed in color from gold/red to silver, though his body is mainly gold/red. Etangueld is a 2 arms 2 legs 2 wings 1 head 1 tail type dragon, though he is poisonous, not a fire breather. Seeing an opportunity in the chaos of present events, Etangueld moved on clarent to strike it rich.

History: Gal'golath is a young green dragon, and the runt of the clutch to boot. Thankfully like many green dragons he had a sharp mind, and he used this to his advantage. He rapidly learned the ways of magic and strategy. Due to this he was given a chance to serve the queen in Clarent despite being young and untested.
Gal'golath is as greedy and prideful as his brethren, but he is much more of a show off. As a member of drow high society, she is of course a plotter and schemer, an expert at all things underhand. She is also a member of the drow priesthood and able to use their clerical magic. Name: Reynauld - The Hammer of Grond, The Apostate
Faction: The Church
Race: Human
Class: Frontline General and Shock Troop
History: Reynauld was born in the Empire, far from the once vibrant hills of Clarent. He was raised in small hamlet on the outer edges of a vast wood in one of the empires many territories, and it was on this same patch of land that he would build his own family. A loving wife and a young son, only a babe when his father left. As is wont in the Empire who venerates a god of conquest, a crusade was declared on some trivial nation in the east, and Reynauld was one of many who answered the call. With only a pair of leather bracers, a tunic, and a long sword, he set out to join the newly formed crusade. For years he fought in the army to subdue foreign lands and throw down the idols of weaker gods. He burned strange people (and things that weren't even people) out of their homes, salted their fields, and destroyed their livelihoods just like all those beside him. Yet unlike these men, Reynauld was different. He possessed that most uncanny abilities of the fodder that composed the crusader armies; He was good. Good with his sword, good with his tactics, and when the time came to "discuss" matters with his superiors, good with his words. It was this skill that saw him rise in the ranks, until he was the commander of a small army of several hundred men in one of the more recent campaigns of the Empire. It was here that he earned one of his monikers, the one spoken aloud by those who both know and do not know Reynauld. "The Hammer of Grond" Reynauld thought the name egregious, and in line with his other moniker, trivial. It was in a valiant action, where he and several dozen of his best men, brought down a section of a vast fortress's reputedly impenetrable gate with a battering ram in the visage of the hand of Grond himself. A sally sent out to stop the ram saw most of Reynauld's men slaughtered, but it was he alone who managed to swing the final blow that cracked the gates, allowing the rest of the army to flow into the city like a malignant flood of steel and blood, sacking it like so many before, and so many after.
It was also on this day that Reynauld gained his second moniker, "The Apostate", though this was spoken only to himself in hushed whispers. Why had he and his men had to have been the ones to bash in the gates of this infernal city, why in the midst of battle did the god of conquest and rule send mortals and demonic servants in his stead? Why would a being of unimaginable power rely on beings of limited life to do his bidding? Reynauld did not question the existence of Grond, he merely no longer subscribed to the teachings of the Church. He still kept up appearances by all means, which is why he ended up in Clarent instead of in the Imperial Capital on a pyre; albiet in a much reduced role as a leader of a cavalry wing. It was also this that allowed him to survive the uprising and subsequent purge of Imperial forces in the now rebellious province of Clarent, as while the slaves of Grond and his "church" were busy observing their daily benefactions to the God of Rule, Reynauld was already checking his gear and polishing his faithful longsword. So when the rebels burst into the barracks with their long knives and swords, while his peers fell to them Reynauld was able to fight his way out and make for the countryside, rallying with other survivors in the city of Karagan. News of the lack of further Imperial support did not surprise Reynauld, as he at this point had already realized that the supposed "strength" of the Empire of Grond was just as real as that of the strength of Grond himself. It was the men beside him who won these battles, not Grond. It was the brave souls dying in droves to beat down the doors of impenetrable keeps that they wrote songs about, not religion, not the Church, and damn well not Grond. The Seventh would win back the land of Clarent, and just as every other time Reynauld marched off to war, he would do it without the support of some incorporeal "god". Grond had never helped Reynauld, or anyone else for that matter, in the past, and he bloody well wasn't going to start now.

Name: Vangelis the "firebrand"
Faction: Church of Grond (formerly drow)
Race: Human
Class: Spellblade (desires to become a blackguard)
History: Vangelis was a lowly slave soldier for the drow where he used his skill with both blade and evocation to destroy their foes. Unsurprisingly Vangelis did not find this arrangement satisfying and throughout the Clarent campaign used his secret talents in enchantment and powerful personality to slowly subvert the slaves against their masters. During the mass route after the capital had revealed their trap, Vangelis used this opportunity to rally the rebellion leaders against the drow while they were vulnerable. During the ensuing conflict all the leaders were "tragically" killed in their fight for freedom with Vangelis appearing to be a hero to the former slaves. With no rivals to contest him for leadership he immediately took over the army and pledged his allegiance to the Church of Grond for protection against the drow and gain legitimacy.

Name: Vannarg The Cryptbreaker
Faction: Great Horde
Race: Grey Orc
Class: Spellblade
History: Magic is a rarity among the brutish denizens of the Great Horde, often taking the form of shamanic tradition, assuming practitioners are not killed and eaten by the tribe to gain their powers in the first place. Only the strongest of magicians survive such brutish upbringings, then, and Vannarg is as strong as they come. Greataxe in hand, he channels magic into terrible arcane diseases or uses his powers to drain away the very mana and life force of his foes. He is a scourge upon all things good, putting his magical talents to use as a terrifying tool of war, and for this reason Gundebax has secured his loyalty, threatening to run him through with a magic-nullifying blade. Vannarg, ever prideful and eternally hungry for power, has reluctantly accepted his charge as Gundebax's lieutenant, but he will not be content to serve the great warchief for long. His raids on towns and cathedrals, places of learning and natural leylines, may seem to be simple barbarity. In actuality, he assaults these places and drains dry any residual magic or magical artefacts left on the premises, adding to his own power. Where Vannarg and his clutch of warriors go, there is nothing but destruction, desolation and a lifelessness that cannot be mistaken for anything but terrible siphoning magic.
For his part, Vannarg is content to serve his warchief for the time being. With each parcel of land and cherished magical item he sucks dry, he adds to his power. Soon, with enough power, he will be truly immortal, and with axe in hand he will slaughter the Warchief and his lieutenants all, and reign supreme over all the land.

Name: Count Richter von Schwarzberg
Faction: Scions of the Dragon Queen
Race: Half Dragon
Class: Scorcerer
History: after decades of failure in producing a heir the graf of schwarzberg gave out the dacree that "whom ever can aid my dying line shall be given everything they can carry out of my treshury"
amused by this foolish cry for help the red dragoness naxidania contactet the royal court of schwarzberg promesing the graf that she could birth him a heir.
for the next year nexidania lived in schwarzberg castle in human form, counteracting the grafs infertility was childsplay for any compitent healer that understood his craft.
to bad the grafschaft of schwarzberg was to small and unimportant to atract anyone of worth.
the months continued on and nexidanias belly grew bigger wich delighted the old graf of schwarzberg to no end.
after 9 months of pregnancy nexia gave borth to a baby boy that she named richter.
the old graf finaly having secured his line could bearly keep his exitment contained and held a grand banquet in honor of his new son and his mother.
nexidania who was used to being called nexi at this point and beint treatet as the grafs defacto wife attendet the celebration half out of courtesy and out of hope that she could finaly finish the deal and get a hoard going.
the whole thing went different then anyone expectet as the graf choked to death on a chicken bone.
the following days were little more then a confiused shuffle where no one knew what to do.
the whole thing endet with the magistrade deciding that prince richter is to rake the throne when he comes of age and that he will be the regent untill this time.
nexi knew what was going on then, the magistrade had orchistratet the whole thing somehow, the infertility, the graf choking, all of it.
the damned snake was taking over the country in a bloodless coup, and worst of all "the blighter wont even honor the deal and pay me!"
worse right now only nexi and richter were in his way of total domination, well good thing nexi wasent just some herbal doctor like everyone thought she was.
nexi hadent known the old graf of schwarzberg for long and she wasent sentimental but she would be damned if his legacy would be spit on by a basterd like that magistrate.
that night the castle and town were attacked by a "random" red dragon that burned one of the castles towers and several buildings, the deathtol was surprisingly low but to anyones horror the magistrat and his closest allys were all burned to ash.
once more confusion and uncertenty reigned supreme, but this time nexi took initiative and made herself regent of the kingdom.
the next few years were rather uneventfull, nexi learned how to rule peopleand got rather good at solving disputed and micromanadging projects.
richter gew into a striking yound lad, his draconic blood made him bigger, stronger, faster and more intelligent then most people.
that coupled with a magical talent that just baffled the court mage that trained him.
even befor his 10 birthday richter was already widely known to be destined for greatness.
the kingdom was in good shape and everyone was happy.
untill the empire showed up.
the council of 5 had made more ground in the last year then in the last few decades and it startet to worry people, schwarzberg was a small country with bearly any military and had no way to survive the empires onslaught.
so richter now 17 startet planing their actions.
war was suicide so that was no option, he could grab his mother and run but both he and nixi have grown very fond of this place and its people so abandoning them was no option eather.
then he got the idea, the dragon queen was one of the 5 that made up the empire, his mother was a pureborn dragon and he was at least halfe.
with a bid of diplomacy he might be able to ally schwarzberg to the dragon queen and garantee his kingdoms survival.
well the people always thought he was destined for greatness, lets see of their trust in him was justefied.
at this point richter would have been recrutet into the dragonqueens army with his mother as his main lieutenent, if there is nothing in the story that needs changing

Name: "General" Ugluck-Rokk Smasha
Faction: Great Horde
Race: Mountain Troll
Class: "General of the Arty'"
History: There is such a thing as "Too Big" for its own good, and that would be the mountain trolls. At least the Ogre's for their size can run, able to charge and barrel through men and defense, and swing their weapons with ferocious speed. Not so for the lumbering and barely sentient Troll, who is more apt to walk even through hail of arrows and javelins, only intelligent enough to swing around a big tree trunk or a large boulder in their hand than proper weapons skill like a sword or a fail. The problem with having thick armored skin, huge reserves of health, and almost no sense of pain is that very readily you aren't aware of how injured and maimed you are, thus you see Trolls stumbling about sometimes blind or deaf with hundreds of arrows and spears and cuts sticking on heads and body, too injured and slow to be any much of a threat and too stupid to remember to at least raise your arm to protect your face. Favored targets are the eyes and ears of trolls.
That was where Ugluck comes into the picture. Every now and then, a smart troll comes along to lead his people (or what is left of them with the other intelligent ones come to lead em). He actually sat down and thought! An exceptional rarity and a prodigy among Trolls. It occurred to him that Trolls were too slow, but their arms were strong. And that others liked to kill trolls from far away with arrows and spears. Why not trolls kill from far away too!
He had the brilliant idea of getting a bunch of trolls to gather big boulders "Roks" in big piles. Some as small as horses others as big as a house. Then when a battle came, the trolls would "Pick up da rokks and throw them!" from very far away. It was a very effective change in tactic. Now the trolls were killing much more than they were killed, squashing enemies flat. "See ya gits, dey'z can dodge ya when yez try ta swing yer tree or smash em with fist. But dey can't dodge roks falling like rain from da sky!"
Riding on the influence success brought him, he became a Troll Chief, and a self style "General of da' Arty" after picking up an imperial uniform from an unfortunate general and his cadre of officers whose tent was in the wrong place and under the wrong boulder.
His next bright idea was to strike an alliance with the clever goblins. Goblins are something of the craftsmen of the Horde, if such a thing can be said of any of the Horde. Not nearly a dwarven smith by any means, but they know enough of the axe and wood to make catapaults. And that's exactly what Ugluck wanted. The goblins now produce a type of catapault for the trolls. One simple enough for their little brains to comprehend, able to be dragged on the ground by Trolls. "Put da rock in da throwey bit. Then you pull down on the other end. It throws da rokk". This greatly increased their range and devastation even further, which was already considerable.
Ugluck leads his group of Trolls in throwing huge boulders and stones, some survivors have said the sky turns dark from so many of them flying through the sky (although probably more accurately it was just a big enough Rock to make the sun dark on where they were standing). The Trolls and Goblins share a sense of pride and enjoyment in this style of warfare, laughing at the attempts to flee from falling tonnes of stones, and are always curious after a battle to lift up the underside and see what was smashed underneath it.

Like I said junior officer. You don't know the warcheif personally and are not even ratable as a lieutenant of his. (they would be outright generals) Other than that you're good.
>>39797
If you still wish to play find me on the IRc, there are some issues that need hammering out. Especially since I have issues understanding some of your writing.
>>39805
Good but needs some tweaking. Find me if you want input before I post stat ups.
The rest of you are fine (mostly)
