6a24d6 No.22161 [View All]

The Central Empire has stood for longer than 1000 years by most counts, longer than 2000 years according to the Fae Courts. And never in it's long history has it lain so desolate as it has today.

The Emperor and Heir lie dead along with the Mother-Empress, and only by a miracle, many claim to be from the gods themselves, has the other eldest half-sibling of the former Crown Princess now shown their own royal blood, and a link to the regalia.

Never the less, they are too young, at the tender age of twelve years of age this day, the Regents Council must take the floor of the Imperial Senate, and set the course of the Empire for the next 6 years. In 6 years time, the Crown Prince will be of age to take the throne properly and rule the Central Empire, but until that day, the Empire sits in the hands of the Regents.

The issues facing the imperial regents is the following:

Regent's Council Only:

1) The formal recognition of the Crown Prince Cichol Ta'lach Centis as heir apparent.

2) The signing of the marriage contracts between the Prince and his two prospective betrothed Lady Vallinia Strikeclaw of the Snake Clan Beastfolk (Denial puts him in debt for 1 Military, 1 Shadowy, and 1 Nobility Oath), and Lady Nachezerina Vladostinak the Nephilim Vampire House on the North Western Boarder Regions (Denial puts him in debt for 2 Military Oaths and 1 Shadowy Oath).

Full Senate Decisions:

1)The Empire is beset on 3 sides:

1a) There are raids across the wild lands to the east upon the farmer protectorate townships not technically within the Central Empire Borders, but who pay tribute to the Central Empire. The source of these raids is unknown. Who will be assigned to investigate?

1b) The Crag Barons have not sent a deligation at all to this, and there are rumors that they are sealing their boarders against official intrusion, and raising tarrifs on trade against the Central Empire. But these are uncomfirmed

1c) The mining communities of the central plains have reported more and more frequent shaft collapses and raids by the mysterious denizines of the deeps.

2) A full investigation into the death of the Emperor and most of his entourage has not been launched. What is known is that a freak storm blew up near the mouth of the Centris River, and his Ship of the Line foundered, and was dashed against the reefs there, cracking it open and killing almost all hands.

3) The allocation of resources to bring the Old Wing of the Palace up to full operational capacity (Failure to allocate resources to this endeavor will result in the lvl.10 Sky Castle, Emain Macha, bequethed to the Crown Prince, to be immobile until resources are allocated to it to allow it's maintanence and repair from ages of neglect to essential automagical systems).

The oozing horror, while not overwhelming your forces, beats them back from it's lair in the sewers. You do not take any serious casualties, but your equipment is often scarred by the acid of it's body. Behind your retreating forces, it lets off a caterwalling 'teakettle' screech, and hurls a pattern of acid into the wall. One of your Fae Deathknights recognizes it as Old Arcadian, the language of the FaeLords, but can tell you nothing else.

1. The council has seen it fit to send the general and I on a far ranging to deal with the insurgents in the East, fitting that I return there. So be it, far from me to take an opportunity to shed eastern blood, but the men are most likely anxious and bored of sitting in the capital. It would do us no great service to have their minds in a far off place as we march to the ends of the empire to deal with these savages. Best be it for I to go around and see what the men are doing, along with generally conversing with them and calming their nerves, and hearing what troubles the Empires defenders lately, as a good commander is wont to do if he wishes to keep his army and his head. (Gain Military oaths via calming the men, discoursing with them, answering any questions they have about our current course of action, so on and so forth. I would also like to apply my fluff bonus as well, as leading men is my specialty)

2. Before we depart from the Capital, I'd like to acquire some armor and weapons, more accurately, some black plate and a zweihander, for trashing eastern knaves.

1) The munitions were shipped in by the Centris River, down one of the tributaries from the eastern crags, not the Cragbarons, but the Eastern lords. That things marked from the far south of the near-eastern nations to the north is a disturbing things, displaying coordination on a scale unheard of in centuries.

2) You have a Lvl.3 Ship of the Line requisitioned. It will only be usable in actions directly relevant to the investigation of the Emperor's death, and the captain is not personally loyal to you. You will need to renew the ship's lease in 1 year's time.

3) You need to expend oaths for this one. But everything is good to go as soon as you want to begin upgrading.

4) The Adventurers you hire take off. You get regular reports from them, and you know they've found a series of 3 valley's in the western center mountain range, which seem to be magically put into stasis, the seasons not changing for them. One is constantly in winter, another constantly a desert, another with conditions reminiscent of the central empire's forests and plains. They have found ruins in these places, but no traps. Their last message, before contact is lost, is of finding a massive gate house leading deeper into the mountains.

Name: Eeo Gelwar

—————————

Position: Courtier, High Judge

Race: Human

Spouse Race: [No Spouse]

Religion: The Draconic Kings

Foes: Racial Schism [Goblins]

Plot Twist: Personal Prowess [Organization]

House Fluff: The house Gelwar isn't known as a particularly influential house. It lacks resources, and the Gelwars have never attained much position in previous generations. They are viewed lowly, if they are viewed at all. However, this mostly an aristocratic distortion: the truth is that the Gelwar are fairly insidious in the way of organization - where others marry, they insinuate with talent, skill, and hard work. Where others rely on personal connections, they rely on a filled out form with all boxes checked. They have strong connections to the middling orders in society - the merchants and traders - but few proper connections to major houses. This still makes them powerful, as they can serve as a lightning rod when the traders are overtaxed, burdened by war, or have complaints. Generally House Gelwar values are more in line with the townsmen and the burghers rather than the lords proper; it is an odd thing and sometimes unsightly.

Personal Fluff: Within the massive bureaucracies of the empire house a good many men that makes the gears of justice work. These men are hard men, tough men. These men have a solemn duty, oaths, and procedure. These men are brave and fearless, but the general stress of their work and the manner of operation has a tendency to reduce them to mere cogs in a machine that is far beyond their own understanding. In time, work within the structure has a tendency to turn them into machines themselves: Eeo is perhaps a foremost man of this sort, as his sensitivity to softer things in line with the nature of his work has reduced him to a calloused creature. Reflecting that, Eeo has no "real" family, and his friends are all related to work. Given such a situation, the bureaucracy is all Eeo knows, and as such he serves the needs of the high judge consistently, bravely, and without tire. They are his family in a way that all cogs see themselves as family.

However, this work is not for the faint of heart: hard swift verdicts against criminality is not passed easily, and the constant cries of the guilty have a tendency to echo in the soul. For Eeo, the noise has grown dim with time: it is part of the job, and it a job he was born to do. He is a hard man because the empire demands and needs hard men. As such he has risen in the ranks, and now serves in a position more near the top of the apparatus of the empire: sacrifice to the empire is rewarded, even if the soul is the price for a step on the ladder of career….

1.2. [Social] Eeo attempts to make friends with many of the ranking bureaucrats and officials in his area – both within the wider judiciary and among the townsmen. He is somewhat good at it – strategic gifts, lunches, and attempting to make formal events does a good deal to describe what Eeo tries. Naturally, he leans on people he knows and utilizes his narrow contacts within the burghers. (1 Lawkeeper [Social/Shadowy] [Rank 5])(1 Bourgeosie [Social/Economic [Rank 1])

Rylza sews the pillow in front of her in silence as she ponders briefly. The river barge gangs disappearances we're indeed disturbing, but what was far more troubling was her inability to identify the ones that had come to fill in their place. Never the less, she had to ensure everything was well.

Chosen by the Gods

Personal Prowess "Air Trade"

House Fluff:

The Ichaival Company is not a noble house, not even a normal hereditary lineage. Established by Ichaival, it serves as his business within which he does a wide range of profitable enterprises such as technological design, production, and sale as well as other side businesses such as, legal and sanctioned, mercenary and privateer work.

Personal Fluff: Ichaival

Unique among his fellow Iron Forged, Ichaival is one of the few of their kind with a fierce sense of individualism and ambition. While as with all Iron Forged he is imbued with a personal sense of being a part of their god, he himself has come to understand this in a much, much deeper level, beyond any of his fellow brothers could have imagined.

At night, he is filled with dreams. While not uncommon, his are intensely fierce and “as sharp as awareness itself.” He is filled with visions and designs, not whispers but tongues of knowledge hitherto unimagined of the devices and machinations of the Iron God. At first frightened, then intrigued, something far more extraordinary happened.

He could not only speak to the Machine Spirit's as they were . .it felt as though he could hear them in the aether, asking to come into this reality, to be conceived, to be made. A torrent of voices of Machine Spirits like a maelstrom, calling to him on the winds as though willed by the Iron God himself. Empowered by this divine providence, he soon found he was discovering things under their influence, their voices, learning more than he ever could even among those learned in the scientific arts of the Southern Isles, where he almost felt. . .stifled.

Perhaps that is why he finds himself here, in the Central lands, rather than the Iron Isles whence he was forged. All he knows is that since that time it has been his mission to establish himself a resource base, an enterprise not limited by any kingdom or nation that will allow him to freely pursue the task given to him. To craft, to design, and occasionally, to sell and spread the Iron God's will and designs. He would find everything he needed, here, all he had to do was take it.

Ichaival's Sky Castle serves as a mobile base of operations for the up and coming entrepreneur. Owning no ground lands of his own, he benefits from the ability to nest his castle in remote areas, usually remote islands, acting in seclusion while venturing out on his airship which he uses to organize his several connections to distinct other like minded individuals seeking to advance either the sciences, magic, prestige, or profit. All of which serves to provide him with a ready supply to construct his visions.

At best, I will attempt to salvage this situation by discovering what became caustic in my attempt, and then developing a cure or antidote.

Though I've failed to preserve foodstuffs, finding a cure for poisoning and spoilage may still gain some clout, and investigating this will go towards discovering the how and why it came to pass.

3) Es Spiritum Merchantilias doesn't have records in the traditional sense, but they give you about 4 dozen separate locations around the world that could possibly have been used, refusing to name their clients from areas that you have no direct or current knowledge of. They do however give you a list of materials that could have been used to produce a storm spell. 75% of them actually are traceable back to YOUR office of Archmage. The others are scattered amongst Eastern and Western Lords, with the majority being from various coastal lords. The vast majority of these components could be used for a great deal of other things as well however.

4) A fire burns across the east, a thousand sparks come together in the mythic phoenix, the bird of war and rebirth, the bird that flew across the birth place of the First True Human, that oversaw the apotheosis of the Dragons and the death of Faelords, the Phoenix strikes at the heart of the center.

>Johan Varkas

1) The men are too nervous, and the vast majority are marching to war in the east, the General has called them there, something big is going down, and this is why he cannot be there. He leaves specific instructions. His vassals, and his position as General, in the event that he dies in the middle of combat, is to be passed to Lord Varkas for the duration of the war, or until he is replaced or ratified by the Empire. He left orders also that you were to follow with the vangaurd and secure the supply lines as you went.

2) Unforunately, the smithies have been emptied by the war effort of your liege.

1) You find that there has been a concentrated effort, especially in the movement of magical goods between places. The Syndicates are all Eastern Syndicates. More than that you can't find out.

2) You gain a single economic oath, and several guilds are more than happy to gain the sponsorship of members who otherwise would have been unable to get a leg up in the world.

>>23020

>Ichaival

1) Gain 2 Economic Oaths, your sales are going amazingly well, and they're even proceeding inland now.

2) There are no food stuffs left in a condition capable of being cured. The food itself is tainted, but your efforts due lead you to correcting the packaging process, preventing a chemical sealant leak that was tainting the canned foods with a mixture of mercury, lead, and other heavy metals. The canned foods take off back in the new-innovation hungry Southern Isles, but the coastal cities of the mainland are slower to trust on this front, even if they trust your weapons manufacture now.

1) Roll conflicted action for this.

2) Your engineers are laughed out of the halls, MMG? Mega Mining Golem? Why expend so much just to dig into such a dangerous place? When other places are far safer and less expensive to mine. MAD they call you in the halls of learning.

1) Gain 1 shadowy oath, you have a little network of spies ow, and some connections with the underworld.

2) Work progresses, but stalls as the arches of the cathedral have difficulty remaining in place. (236/500)

3) Even going further afield from the capital, they have trouble finding anyone, perhaps more success could be had in the kobold caravans and way stations though?(139/200)

4) Your inventors discover an incredibly cheap, and overlooked enchantment that previously had been used simply to keep books from decaying over time. With relatively minor alterations, it's discovered the same spell can be used on dried foods! Allowing them to last for years if kept properly stored! Gain 1 economic oath and 1 magical oath as the patent for the recipe pours money into both the imperial coffers and your personal accounts.

>>23137

> Cichol Ta'lach Centis

1) Unfortunately with the war effort being blazed by the general, and the senate vote finished, there are simply not that many members of the peerage in the capital currently.

2) You find in third underspiral of Emain Macha, the one devoted to Morrigan herself, a door that can only be seen when one of the blood of the emperor touches it. The writing on it is cryptic, and predates even what Abhean understands in terms of writing, but from the patterning of symbols and characters, is potentially Original Arcadian, the first written language, what little he knows allows him to decipher that it is in the pattern of a Fae Riddle Epic, a story disguised as riddles that in turn disguises a greater truth. Only by understanding the stories and solving the riddles is it possible to see the truth.

3) The garrisons could be brought to full strength within 4 (8 turns) months if a muster was called, as they primarily serve as a method of keeping an eye on the Crag Barons, rather than an actual line of defense against a hostile military foe in most cass.

4) There is absolutely no precedent for doing such.

Guys, it has been a while, and interest has obviously flagged.

I'm sorry, but it's obvious I bit off more than I can chew with this, and haven't been able to run it as well as I had hoped.

I'm shutting it down here, but I'd love feedback on how I could run this game better in the future.

I'll throw in my two cents then.

1. I loved your lore and your rule set. It was obvious you worked hard on it and it worked. I especially liked the oath system.

2. It felt like you were throwing out empire destroying enemies way too fast, as we would have had to find the emperor's assassin, fight off the eastern lords being united, and find out how to fight the horrors from the underdark. That may have been rng and if so ignore this.

3. I enjoy your willingness to work with player ideas and make them balanced.

I hope you run this again one day, your main problem was that some of the major players, such as Anni, DMW, and Maldaris disappeared which may have thrown out important plot points.

My interest has not waned, but I am sorry to hear this. It was a magnificent setting with an interesting system that I do hope may see the light of day again.

I still in fact remember the major hype over this game and the interactions within it. I want to think that if it ever got updated again, interest would return.

>>23516

On that note, as I have always said, every game must take into account the possibility, if not inevitability, of people dropping out or others joining in.

This is not because they have always lost interest, there could in fact be legitimate reasons like having less time, internet, or other things.

But if a game cannot function without a "vital players" then that bears great risk.

In short, I still have to say you ran a great game and I can't really find fault in the way you handled it. I especially enjoyed the religious aspect and how individual players who were chosen by the gods could be spoken to them.
