One important thing to note about PC games of this era (late 90s to mid 00s) is that they often used to have more sounds playing at once, fully 3D directional sound, and advanced DSP (reverb that would change depending on the size and shape of the environment, etc.), but this was all broken and "deprecated" when Microsoft brought out Vista. Without these, all these games sound like absolute shit, in order to be compatible with the most low-end hardware of the time, and they lose a lot of the immersion they once had.
There are workarounds to reactivate it, the simplest being to just use a real EAX-compatible sound card with the Creative ALchemy software, but if you don't have/want that, there is a hacked version of ALchemy out there that will allow it to work on non-Creative hardware. I have a few going back to the late PS1 era, and my dad used to have PC mags back in the mid - late 90s, but I mainly used to get the Official PS2 Mag because they had playable demos rather than just trailers, and my PC was fairly shitty during that time (my dad had a beast of a machine though, so I still got to play the latest PC games when I was at his house). Still have them all, as well as the demo discs. I remember they'd often feature pictures of half naked women in them, which I remember having a cheeky midnight fap to more than once.

I don't remember seeing any hate for GTA IV (besides the boat-like car physics) until the PC port came out, which ran like shit at the time, even for people with high spec machines. I thought it was great when it came out, and the expansions even more so, but I don't feel inclined to ever play it again. In retrospect, I don't think it had as strong a "vibe" as the previous games did, and it felt like it took itself too seriously. Plus, I really missed the diversity of environments that San Andreas had, going back to one city that was 99% urban felt like a downgrade.

It's not something I even want to do, you're the one that wants a music stream, not me. I make music as a hobby by sitting at a computer and meticulously programming/automating everything with a mouse and keyboard, or playing on my MIDI keyboard very badly and then heavily quantising the results, like most bedroom producers. I'm not some kind of live electronic music performance artist that can go on tour and put on live knob-twiddling shows, I'm about as ready to do that as you are.
The only music-related thing I can competently perform live is DJing, AKA playing recorded music (which is virtually impossible to stream on major services now with all this automated copyright strike bullshit), but I don't have a proper music library set up any more. I was mainly into DJing between 7 and 13 years ago, and I only ever really played records/CDs/mp3s my dad had bought over the years, which I don't have any more (and frankly, I've gone off of a lot of it). I used to have things ready and organised, but all I've got now is odd bits and bobs from the couple of times I've fucked around with it since. I'm not going to build an entirely new music library from scratch (buying/downloading hundreds of tracks, sorting it all into groups, analysing it, etc), and prep all the tracks for playing (setting up cue and loop points, making edits, figuring out what tracks work together and what doesn't, etc), just for you and the one other lad.
If it so happens that in the future I get back into DJing and have everything ready to go again, then I'll be happy to do it, but right now that's not the case, and I don't currently care for it enough to change that.

My dad has primarily used Traktor for the past several years, but he's recently moved over to Pioneer's Rekordbox (only because that's what's being pushed as "standard" these days at venues and events, both me and him are convinced there's a conspiracy behind this, but that's another story). I'm familiar with Traktor, but I've never really liked it for a number of reasons, but also their DVS isn't as realistic sounding as Serato's to my ears. I wouldn't say it's better than Serato in any way if you're a vinyl-based DJ like me.
Anyway regarding streaming, I'm pretty sure it's just like a built-in SHOUTcast or something along those lines (the audio equivalent of OBS). You'd still need a server to host it and a web player for people to be able to connect and listen to it, and I am not setting up my own bloody internet radio station just for this.

I didn't even know Denon did a Serato interface, huh. Looks like it's the same price point as the Rane SL2 though, so I'm not really sure what the point of it is. I have an SL3 myself, used to have an SL1, but got jewed when they suddenly discontinued and dropped support for it (it needed discontinuing because it used USB 1.1, which is fair enough because modern computers don't support that any more, but they could have at least had an upgrade plan or something, instead of just leaving old customers in the dirt with a "sorry, use our old software with an old computer, or buy our newer model, thx").
Between a Z2 and a DVS interface, it really depends on your wants and needs. Personally I have a pair of 1200s, a DJM 700, and then the SL3 and a laptop, which does everything I want it to. I prefer to do things old school, setting Serato to absolute mode, no key lock, mixing by ear sync button cunts OUT, with minimal usage of loops, cue points, ridiculous FX, etc., so I don't need all the extra gadgets and gizmos that mixer/controller hybrids give you. Anything I might need is covered by keyboard shortcuts on the laptop.

I probably won't do either as at the end of the day this is all purely for my enjoyment and is hard to justify spending the sort of money for me for me to play music, in my music room, alone.

That picture is from exactly two years ago, I can't even get to the decks any more because there's so much shit sitting on top of and in front of it all, and nothing is really hooked up. It has a file browser, but it's not the best. I normally just make sure everything is tagged properly, bang it all in to one big logical crate, and then use smart crates to filter out what I want, but it requires a fair bit of time and tedium to do that if you have a lot of music.

You could say that again, it's tiny and only fits about 5 tracks in view, that was what I do did love about traktor, all my music is an ongoing process of being organised into correct folders so traktor I'm pretty much set to go. With Serato any music I sort inbtween making playlists I have to reload into the playlist for it to show. Tedious and is time I could be spent playing. WHat work did you do with your father ?

A couple of times a week I'd get sent to the very loud, hot, and dingy manufacturing area, to sit/stand at a machine for hours and hours. There I'd do things like bend little bits of metal over and over to make 1000 hinges, or make dozens of countersink screwholes in hundreds of metal plates, or pull levers to cut hundreds of pieces of metal DIN rail, or some other tedious, monotonous job that required 100% focus for a couple of hours straight, otherwise you'd lose a finger or an eye. It was physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting, and I hated it.
On top of that, I normally live with my mum, so I had to live out of a suitcase at my dad's house in a different town during this time. I can't drive, so I couldn't just go home to my stuff and relax, and every Friday night would involve me packing my stuff, going home, completely crashing out on Saturday out of exhaustion, then on Sunday I'd be dragged back to my dad's house to do it all over again. Never felt more like a prisoner, the feeling when I quit and went home was orgasmic.

Good afternoon my children,
A lot of you are wondering why britfeel is a ghost town lately. Yesterday morning I woke up to a harassment strike from 8ch for my post defending myself against a shitposter I will not name. I’ve had a full 24 hours away from 8ch and britfeel to reflect on what this board means to me and what it has cost me. I’ve been harassed and threatened because of this board more times than I can count but it never really got to me until now. To have someone so close to me hurt me and spread outright lies about me in this way, for them to send people to attack this board,bully me personally, and shitpost on this board has deteriorated my mental health quite a bit. I’ve been crying over this and I don’t cry. Ever. I started crying in fucking Asda. I think this was just the straw that broke the camels back. I don’t feel safe here anymore. If defending myself against bullying on this site is a crime then what can I say that isn’t? I feel like I will always be a target, a victim, always waiting for the next shitpost that will make someone I love lose their passion for this board as I’ve lost mine. I’m a person just like all of you and I’ve carried the weight of the criticisms, bullying, and shitposts that come with running something like this for over 3 years now and this situation finally broke me. I’m tired of being called names, of being despised by these little factions of people, it’s finally enough. As such a giant traffic and content creator for 8ch I have no one to contact, no one to tell my side of the story. I’m completely alone and left to suffer whatever fate the A.I. and any bully that has a grudge decides I deserve. There’s no justice. No matter what I do or who’s really to blame, I’m always the one who suffers the consequences and now those consequences are effecting others I care about. It’s enough. To everyone who has sent me messages of support and that defended me on the now deleted post from the other night I love you so much. This board isn’t going anywhere but I am. I can’t continue doing this when I feel myself breaking mentally. I’m sure there are those of you that will say “It’s just a board. Don’t take it so seriously” or “Just post feels and shut up” and to those people I’d say walk a year in my shoes, not a mile, a year. Be the person who is the figurehead of a group that has up to 10 eyes on it every month. Feel the consequences that come with kind of attention day in and day out… the bullying, the criticism, the attacks that I don’t let you guys see because I try to keep this a fun place for you. This board may just be something you scroll through or it may be something you live for but either way you can’t understand how much of a toll operating something this big that requires constant attention takes on you unless you’re in my shoes. This group of you didn’t just fall into my lap. I worked so hard to build this place into something you’d all love and feel connected to. I wanted it to feel like a second home for those of you who have very little else to look forward to and I feel like I’ve succeeded in doing that. But now it feels like this home and this family I’ve created are being turned against me and it’s not something I can continue to deal with. For some people this board is what gets them up in the morning and that may make some of you laugh but it’s a fact and it means a lot to me. This is a wonderful place and I’m so glad to have made so many wonderful memories with you people. I’m not gonna forget about you but I need to distance myself from this place. I will be handing the reigns over to my trusted mods. It’ll be a bit of a rough go in the beginning I’m sure as I’ve always been in control of everything done in this group… you’ll notice a change… but I’m sure they will do well in my absence. There's not really any science to it, they were all that there was before transistors were invented, and people like old shit that looks cool. Some people say valve amps sound better, but I say it's mostly placebo and marketing bullshit. I think the misconceptions come from the fact that valves have a softer and more "musical" distortion when overdriven, whereas transistors usually sound pretty nasty as soon as the signal gets too hot. This gets reinterpreted as "valves amps sound better than solid state amps", but it's only really true if you're talking about electric guitar amps, where distortion is desired.

You don't need to know how each component works on a scientific level to get into electronics, although it does help to make sense of it all. If you want to get into building circuits that other people have designed, then all you need are soldering skills, troubleshooting skills, a bit of ESD and safety awareness, and the money to get all the tools, utilities, and components. This can all seem a bit intimidating, but if you start off slowly with a simple kit and some youtube tutorials, then it'll all start coming together.
If you want to design and build your own circuits, you'll need to know all of the above, the fundamentals of electricity, ohm's law, how all the various different components function, and the commonly used building-blocks in circuit design. You'll need more advanced tools as well, depending on how advanced the circuits you want to build are, such as a an oscilloscope, a function generator, a logic analyser, etc.

Yeah it's just called "speaker wire". Might be common sense, but don't hook them up while the amp is on, it's good practice to unplug it from the mains first. Passive speaker connections can potentially be carrying high voltages, depending on the power of the amplifier. Also check the impedance rating of the speakers VS the impedance rating of the amp, if there's a mismatch then you might be getting a lower or higher volume than intended.

Spent the day at my dads with family. While I was there, my grandad gave me an old Hohner chromatic harmonica (in the original box) from my recently deceased great, great uncle. Just looked it up, and apparently it's from bloody 1937.
