Here's an idea:
In a transhumanist future, a young and ambitious aspiring businesswoman replaces her entire brain with a cybernetic, high-tech replacement, and becomes super-intelligent. She gets super snobby.
Eventually, she can't pay the loan on the super-brain surgery, and has to sell a few of the thousands of processing cores, but barely notices a difference. As time goes by, this becomes routine - selling a few cores when things are rough. Still not seeing the gradual differences.
Eventually she notices she's barely more intelligent than a regular person, and only at "computable" tasks, like an advanced robot. She has trouble recognizing complex shapes, but can perform efficiently once told what they are. Her once-top-tier processing cores are worth less now, too, and she's still into debt.
After this the story can go several ways, most involving her seeing a gradual decline into progressively-cheaper brains, down to Chinese knock-offs, without money for a surgery to put back her original brain (which could be auctioned and re-activated by someone).
