Got a 30 gal goldfish aquarium. Have a fancy goldfish in it at the moment. Good thing about having a goldfish aquarium is you never have to buy goldfish; someone is always looking to get rid of theirs. Downside is that second hand goldfish may not live long, due to stunted growth and previous shitty conditions.

Got a few pictus catfish off someone who no longer wanted them, which was pretty lucky. Got a friend that gives me his excess aquarium plants, but between the goldfish eating everything and the pictus catfishes uprooting everything, only Java Fern and Anubis plants are thriving.

Noice. I've just got a 10 gallon with 9 black neons (might have seen me on halfchan's /an/), amazon sword plants and some Brazilian water weed around a big ass chunk of driftwood and some rocks

I have a 55 gallon freshwater. Pic related.

>inb4 algae

I just replaced the stock fluval ribbed tubing with clear vinyl and implemented a vertical sprayer bar. Next week I'll clean more thoroughly, don't want to change too much at once.

Just some danios, a flying fox, and a couple of rosy barbs.

I've tried some more interesting fish but if it is passive or has longer flailing fins the danios beat it up.

I don't know what to do with it next. It's bland. It has all live plants but it is just empty.

This tank has a purpose and looks great, full, plenty of places for the fish to hide.

If you like my tank concept, why not just scale it up? It's just a poor man's biotope. With 55 gallons you have a LOT to play with, pretty jelly

What do those little tiny snail fuckers that become aquarium pests so easily need to survive?

Long story short I'm keeping one in a tiny cup for a friend because she thought it was cute.

Moths can be hardy as fuck.

One got into my sister-in-law's house, and while I was trying to catch it and let it back outside, she was whipping it with a towel, hitting it with a fly swatter, slapping it off walls with her hand, and even stomped on it and the fucker kept going like nothing happened.

So /an/, a 5.5 gallon tank was given to me, complete with filter, gravel, heater, etc. All it misses is a cover and light.

What should I put in it? I'm considering half a dozen ember tetras and a snail or something like that. I'll be doing bi-daily 20% water changes, maintenance isn't my concern.

5.5? fucking nothing. A betta. tetras need at least 10-20g and really good quality water for them to last. You can try it, but don't be upset when they die.

Got a 13 gallon on my nightstand.

3 Albino Glowlight Tetras
3 Ghost Shrimp
3 Cooli Loaches, added yesterday.

Everyone seems content, but I need more tetras for the sake of them having a proper shoal. I also feel as if adding more is bad, they seem to have already establish a pecking order and stay close.

Any advice?

Pic related; nothing fancy, but it seems to do the job just fine.

Alright I have a bit of a fish related question.

What are the chances my Pictus is carrying eggs? I have a 30 gallon tall with one fancy goldfish and 2 pictuses. One of which is a lot longer than the other and has a giant abdomen. Seems to be just as active as normal but his/her 'breaks' of swimming up the side of the tank are fewer in-between and longer. I do water changes when needed, and generally always have a struggle of keeping ammonia down but everything else stays at least in the healthy range, excluding nitrate a couple of times. I highly doubt it's from too much feeding.

Any ideas what it could be? Could my pictus just have contipation?

S/he'll probably be dead by the time I get a response but here's hoping whatever it is isn't deadly or solves itself.

Just an update; my pictus's abdomen has nearly returned back to normal size but I still don't have a clue what it was caused by. He's acting much more active than he used to now.

A bigger tetra shoal would do a lot of good, but you're already nearing the limit of how many fish you can safely fit.
>Any advice?
1)Give the tank a week or two to grow some bacteria for the new loaches.
2)If everyone looks healthy, no trouble breathing, bring a sample of your water to your local fish shop, have them test it. If it's good, get another tetra.
3)Wait a week, repeat step two to get your fifth tetra.
With a small tank like yours, there's not much margin for error, which is why I recommend so much caution.

>>289
>>291
If that were a tumor or a pregnancy, it wouldn't have returned to normal size on its own. My best guess would be that it was swollen due to a now-resolved bacterial infection. When that happens, it's usually because of bad water quality.

Don't change more than 25% of the water in one change, or you'll remove too mach bacteria and thus increase ammonia.

Change water often. There's no other way to get rid of nitrate.

I'm keeping an apple snail in a 1 gallon tank with some plants. I don't know anything about aquariums, so I figured I'd start small and can expand later if I want to get fish.

But looking online, everyone seems to recommend really large volumes of water, like 20 gallons for a single goldfish. That's a lot of gallons! If it was a cube, it would be about 1.5 ft on a side. Seems like you wouldn't even see the one goldfish in that much water half the time.

Do fish really need so much water or is this some kind of a meme among people who are very enthusiastic about their fish?

Goldfish are a poor example because they are commonly believed to be fine in bowls but actually grow quite large and quite dirty. Most retailers recommend 30 gallons, most enthusiasts recommend 40. There are plenty of smaller fish that will be fine in just 10 gallons. (danios, mollies, platies etc.)

If fish don't have a big enough tank, poisonous waste will accumulate and they won't get enough oxygen. Sometimes this will kill fish outright, but more often it makes them weak enough that they are killed by infections. Plants and aerators help, but they are no substitute for a properly sized tank.

I have a (fancy) goldfish and 2 pictus in a 30 gallon and am chastised for it often. Goldfish alone get really big and create a lot of waste. If I don't keep up on regular water changes my one pictus will grow fat with bacteria

I should actually get around to posting a pic of my faggy ass tank. I added Hornwort which my fish seem to not eat and it grows like a fucking weed
