Yo /an/, I don't normally post on this board, but I feel like you guys would be qualified to answer. Could you help me ID a predator I saw in my backyard? I live in Southern NH, and the temperature is starting to drop, if that helps.

I was going outside about 10PM to check on my quail, when I shone my flashlight into the woods about 35-40 yards away. I saw a light, and when I shone my light on it more, I saw two. I called out to it, thinking it might be my dog. I doubted it, since my dog's eye shine is more whitish, this animal had a more red glare to it. It turned tail and ran, and looked sort of gray-ish, and looked like it had a tail. It might have just been a leg, but I am unsure. I am fairly certain it is a cat of some sort, maybe a bobcat, but those guys are smaller than what I saw. It moved way too fast and was too big to be a coon or a porcupine.

I have heard reports of a mountain lion in my town, and have seen scat that resembles that of a mountain lion in the woods. The scat could easily just be raccoon or bobcat, but I have seen actual, fresh, mountain lion scat when I was in New Mexico that looked similar. But, I know I am in the wrong area to have one of those around.

Anyone here know, it definitely spooped me out, so some details might be off.

Seems other people report sightings, too. No one has managed to shoot one yet, which makes me doubt it.

What's the biggest/baddest animal you anon's think you could fight? Setting is wherever the animal is on the first image you get on google. Just assume the animal is pissed off and wan't to get you. Pic related-The biggest animal I think I could take and the field I have to fight it in.

This is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

And for some reason the first and second images were giant and so were their file sizes.

You'll need to specify conditions, OP. What are you allowed to have and what level of confrontation are we going with here? If we split hairs, I could fight a lion. It would kill me, but I'd still fight it.

Well, OP, with a knife/machete/axe, I think I could take a wolf.

Might have to set a sort of snare trap to catch it, and if it's in a pack, I'm fucked, but I think I could do it if he's on his own.

Kind of surprising to hear an anachnid with such a temperament. So it isn't afraid of people injuring it? How big is it?

You'd think an outdoor cat would know better…
Truthfully, I've got no problem with outdoor cats, but I'd never piss money away on getting them spayed/neutered/shots
only for them to get rekt a month later.
