I started out with MS Paint, but I've been using Photoshop for the last few years. The cap posted by the OP, the first and third of >>103802, and the third and fifth of >>103870 are a few of mine.
At some point I switched from black text on white backgrounds to white on black. Sometimes I'll use other font colors for dialogue. I've used Arial in the past and am currently using Calibri. A rare exception was a small Halloween-themed gallery I did where I used orange text with a subtle textured overlay.
I rarely put text on the image itself. I think I've only done it once for a gif. Keeping the text separate helps preserve readability and lets people crop out the caption if they want an easy copy of the source image.
Readability is the key. It's a bit of a challenge to decide how much space to devote to the image vs the caption. You also have to balance the caption length and font size.
Other than that, I just try to somewhat match the caption to the source image. I've moved away from using names so it's easier to imagine yourself in the situation, either as the subject or a potential Master/Mistress/etc. behind the "camera" so to speak.

I've spent at least 5+ hours searching for a caption I saw forever so I'm throwing in the towel and seeing if any of you anon's might remember/have it
From what I remember the picture was of a boy laying on a couch in a diaper. The text (which I don't remember if it was attached onto it like a proper caption or if it was added as a stanza of text) talked about how his mom and girlfriend with him being lazy (I think he either didn't have a job or dropped out of school, or both) so they put him in diapers (and started treating him like a baby?? unsure about that) to try and incentivize him to stop acting like a baby but he ended up liking it. Also can't remember if the text implied or was explicit about him either freely using his diapers, or if he was jacking off in it (I think he might have also been a frequent masturbator?? but that might have been another caption)
Sorry about all the vagueness and misremembering but it's from a while ago and with me searching so deeply for it I feel like my memory of it was getting scrambled. I'm pretty positive I saw it either on tumblr or imagefap but I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up being wrong about that too
