Because so far only google is willing to pour literal billions into the totally unprofitable genre of websites that youtube is a part of. Imageboards are in a similar boat but the cost to run one is so much less that a pig farmer like jim can justify hosting one to launder money though.

youtube gets most of its money (as pointed out above) from the idiots at alphabet/google pouring cash into a rathole. But the advertising income isn't meaningless, and most of that comes from the drooling submorons who don't run adblockers, who aren't probably using imageboards.
