I'm looking for more non-zelda top down adventure games, already tried out Golden Axe Warrior, Willow, Crystalis, Crusader of Centy and Star Tropics.

>>1794Any specific systems, anon? For the NES the StarTropics sequel is pretty good, on the Gameboy you have Bomberman Quest which is a fun game and on the SNES there's Ganpuru Gunman's Proof.

>>1795Any suggestions would be appreciated but I'm looking for SNES/Genesis era stuff mostly, they tend to be on the simple side on the NES or Master System.

Brave Fencer Musashi on PS1 gets high praise. Haven't tried it yet, though.

Thanks for reminding me I picked that up for next to nothing a while back, and have yet to give it a spin.

I guess Mystic Quest (gameboy)/Final Fantasy Adventure technically counts.

Rolan's Curse, Ninja Taro and Golvellius are excellent action adventure games.

The Quest for Thelda, by Sundog Systems for the Tandy CoCo. It's pretty much a Zelda clone. I dunno where to download disk image so can't comment much about it. Here's some more screenshots:

A Prelude to Chaos, for the Amstrad CPC. I played this one last year and it was pretty fun until I got near the end and couldn't figure out how to progress further. Had to backgrack all over the map, and eventually figured it out.

There's also a version for ZX Spectrum but the world is much smaller.

You can also try ZZT and Super ZZT for DOS, by Epic Megagames. No graphics in this game, just ASCII and PC speaker sound FX, but still fun. Oh, and there's tons of custom add-ons for it. You can find all of them on archive.org. Here's a site that explains the game pretty well:

I remember playing some old game demo called Dare to Dream. They had ingame advertisements for other Epic games, Zone 66 and Solarwinds. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Corom for the Commodore 64.

Played this game to death (until Zelda came out, lol). Biggest annoyance was the lack of a menu system. EVERY item, spell, and special action has a hotkey assigned to it, better have the list printed out before you start the game.

I tried this and promptly got my ass kicked by some bees or something like that. Found the manual though, so maybe that'll help.

It's been years since I've played Corom, but here's a little of what I remember;
-Don't waste your money on Link and Plate Armor, just save up to buy the Magic Armor as soon as possible.
-Same with the Long and Broad Sword, you'll find the Magic Sword pretty early in the game.
-Since the only thing you really need to buy is the Magic Armor, once you have it you can spend any other gold you find on Salves and Blast and Hammer spells.
-This is the one I'm least sure of, but I think there is no maximum Strength, so rather than waiting until your Strength gets low, just use all Heal spells as soon as you get them.

Random fact: C64 games usually use port 2 for game controllers because programs like to use the memory address reserved for port 1.
