How the fuck do servers work nowadays on (((steam)))? If a game decides to sell a multiplayer game are its servers handled by (((steam))) or what?
Because I can't for the fucking life of me understand why these retards keep insisting selling their license on (((steam))) without offering an alternative. Aside from the fact that (((steam))) is a piece of DRM shit that datamines you, I don't want 30 FUCKING percent of every dollar I pay to go to (((steam))).
What the fuck is stopping companies from offering (((steam)))-free alternatives? There must be some justification for losing 30% of the revenue and the only reason I can think of is (((steam))) somehow provides gameplay servers or companies are fucking retarded.

Most games require Steam to be enabled to access the network that games are hosted on (whether the games are hosted P2P or on some dedicated servers hosted by users or developers). This is to combat piracy. One example of this is Europa Universalis IV which supports LAN play and has P2P networked games over the internet but requires Steam to access any of these, even LAN.

To answer your other question, yes, Steam can host servers as well.
