If you had unlimited resources and could make any game you want, regardless of the money, knowledge needed, cultural support (read: no jews scheming against you) or any other resource cost, what would your magnum opus be?

I want to make Existenz in real life. Not so much the VR(I do want that though) the actual premise of the game itself. The whole prospect of a randomly generated narrative RPG is really intriguing to me. I feel like it probably wouldn't be that far out of the reach of modern technology, with AI learning getting better all the time. Insert a bunch of different story and character and location presets, and let the machine mix and match.

Maybe the machine spits out a murder mystery, set in Spain, where your partner is an overweight Chinaman, and the killer is an old woman, Or maybe the machine spits out a heist story. set on the moon, where you have to steal a ruby from a French gangster.

That sounds pretty cool, but I'm not sure how well that would work with today's tech, even with machine learning. There are little oddities with machine learning that will leave players with an uncanny valley feeling, but who knows? Maybe you can figure out a way to make it work well. I hope you do, anon.

As for myself, my dream magnum opus would be an online platform for quick and dirty multiplayer gamedev, basically old school Starcraft and Warcraft III, but without the faggotry of blizzard. It would work in a peer-to-peer way so that there is no way that even if my game company became SJW infested, they could regulate what you create and share.

But realistically, I guess I'm gonna be stuck with some basic stuff like a 2D ARPG in the vein of Legend of Oasis (Story of Thor 2), which is hands down one of the best 2D ARPGs to ever grace this sad earth.

I'm not necessarily saying the game could be made in the here and now, at least not as completely as you'd hope, but I think we're edging closer.

Also, that uncanny valley strangeness could have it's own appeal. That's kind of how it was in the movie.

I had a dream a while back for some kind of triple A budget capeshit RPG where you actually have to balance out your super heroing with your secret identity, sort of like a single player CoH with an involved story, but as I lost my passion for capeshit and story driven games it sounds like a worse and worse idea

A lot of Deus Ex's charm is in the late 90's to early 2000's production values. All I'd really want is more content, and some tuned up game mechanics, which is probably better left to mods.

Wasn't their originally supposed to be a way to stick with Unatco until the end of the game? It'd be cool to see that put back in, along with more divergent paths. That's all I'd really want out of a hypothetical remake. You could even keep the graphics the same.

Anything trigger the lack of care for story driven games? I'm finding myself in the same boat and have been trying more gameplay oriented games but I'm not really feeling anything aside from my time being wasted. Sort of makes me yearn for more atmospheric games but I've reached the point where it feels like I've practically seen it all. Not that I have mind you but it's difficult to find anything refreshing.

the Isle can seriously go fuck itself though for how little its actually done, all just to scrap it all for a recode

path of titans could be alright, but we'll have to see, I dont like seeing super starry eyed devs, and they're trying to make a cross platform PC/mobile multiplayer game which just seems insanely foolish for a bunch of amateur hobbyists

I have two ideas for games that would use Lojban voice-commands.

The first would be an MMORPG inspired by Made In Abyss.

From my uneducated understanding, one can construct their own language. This is called a "constructed language".

From my uneducated understanding, one of the advantages of "Lojban", a constructed language that has been designed such that every sentence has no ambiguity and only one interpretation, is that it would be a good language between humans and machines.

From my uneducated understanding, with Lojban's lack of ambiguity, gamers could have games where they speak commands to in-game characters that are managed by the game's AI and they could have that much sooner than they would ordinarily where they would be forced to wait for the technology to reach the sufficient level of advancement for English sentences to be correctly interpreted.

From my uneducated understanding, Lojban would give gamers a much greater control over their in-game companion, if they were to have one.

From my uneducated understanding, Lojban can even function as a programming language and so gamers could, in theory, program their companion, if the game allowed it.

Features:

With Lojban, one could have a Made-In-Abyss-style videogame where everyone is assigned an assistant to accompany them in their journey.

Since it's an MMORPG, this means that the all of the Whistles would be actual players rather than any characters from the story (I heard that the Japanese don't buy Anime Games for the game's world - they buy them to play as the main characters but I think for all Made In Abyss fans, the primary appeal is truly the world, not the characters (not that the characters aren't appealing of course)).

Every player would actually be a machine. The machines would be humanised to the same extent of Lisa from PSO2 or Courtney Gears from the Ratchet & Clank series. When you speak to your companion through your microphone, the character would repeat the spoken words but through a filter to make it sound more machine-like.

The player will be given tools to tweak this filter upon character creation.

As a player, your task is to explore the Abyss.

Due to the fact that all of your speech gets filtered when it's reproduced in-game, it's possible for those large, white birds Reg had to save Riko from to reproduce a fallen friend's cries for help and lure in friends as further potential victims.

The game would have Perma-death. When you die, you absolutely die and lose that character and all your items.

The game would have relics that would allow one to enhance themselves with power-ups.

This is all I've thought of so far. What's really critical isn't the adventuring but rather, the non-adventuring stuff. If I am to truly replace the critical characters of the story with players, why would a player, imitating Ozen, decide to stop at one particular layer rather than keep adventuring? And through what means do they maintain their livelihood? I'd have to have so much more to do in the game than just adventuring if I was to do this so I don't think I've fully thought this out.

The second idea I had would be just some kind of Adventure 3D Action Platformer with a (robot?) companion but, due to some subtle, preventable event that you have control over, the companion gets corrupted by either lies or a virus and then starts working to undermine you. She will act maternal towards you initially. She'll "accidentally" misinterpret commands you gave which result in you getting hurt, etc. The good ending has you and your companion defeat the enemy but the bad ending would conclude with your companion luring you to a spaceship where she has taken over the ship's AI and has become the ship's AI. She then, manipulating the ship, becomes hostile to you. The terror in being within this environment that's literally hostile towards you would be my way, as the author of the scene, of subjecting the Schizoid protagonist of this game to his (supposed) deepest fear. One theoretical exploration for the origin of Schizoid Personality Disorder that I've seen is that it is rooted in some kind of deeply subconscious awareness, back when the Schizoid was a normal fetus, of the mother's desire to abort the pregnancy. This transformed him from normal to Schizoid. The ship would become more and more expressive of her desire to have you jettisoned out of her, left to perish in the cold, dark recesses of space and would slowly begin to reveal an increasingly maniacal laughter at the thought of you dying out there, breathless and desperate for warmth. You can't survive this - you can only take her out whilst you get taken out. I haven't fully fleshed this out either. These are just things that circulate in my head.

Unlikely, in spite of the absolute state of the F13 franchise. the brand was tainted by the botched reboot, but Namco keeps including Splatterhouse on compilations and such. The NES game finally got an official western release, they seem to be aware that gaijin like it. I'd be happy with a new 2D/2.5D game, that's more of a thing now, and much more likely to turn out OK, whereas shitty unrecognizable reboots were more the trend a decade ago.

An RTS 3D Platformer Hybrid.

You'd play as a group of 4 animals at any given time amongst a larger group of animals, each with their own unique attributes and abilities. You fundamentally act as their God and are able to issue them commands and actions via the 4 face buttons, 4 shoulder buttons, and 4 directional buttons, with general movement on left stick and camera on right stick. Your goal is to lead them to safety by utilizing their unique skills in puzzles, combat, platforming, and other varieties of gameplay. Rams would be able to "ram" into enemies and break certain objects, Alligators would be able to clamp down on enemies or objects and be able to drag them, Monkeys can hang from areas and hold objects or animals while hanging. Ideally I would imagine 8 - 10 playable animals or however many are required for however complex the gameplay would get.

I don't really have a story or narrative in mind, I just think it'd be a neat concept to make a game out of.

A Tom Sawyer-esque "Small Town" Simulator

You'd play as a group of 3 homeless orphaned kids growing up in a small rural community during the Great Depression needing to scavenge for essentials. You can do this either by performing tasks for struggling neighbors or exploring around the abandoned woods and buildings. Each kid can develop unique bonds with each of the town's remaining residents, some might be less liked by the town, but more able when it comes to exploration and survival. You'd more or less be able to choose what goal you want to pursue. You can go directly for what's needed and just try to make it through life, but that might end up unhappy or stressful. You can do things to try and make the town more lively, but then some options might become unavailable. Or you can be pests and attempt to run everyone out of town, but that might prove problematic if thugs come by.

At the very least I think there should be more games set in the late 1800s - early 1900s that aren't set in a war, mafia, or other mature theme. We need more comfy games in general that aren't pastel soy based.

Long time ago, I said to myself: "imagine, a Red Alert 2-style or Supreme Commander-style RTS with some grand strategy/4X elements, a world map like with Emperor: Battle for Dune or DoW: Dark Crusade, most of the economy and base building actually happening during the turn-based overworld segments instead of during the battles, strategic weapons like missiles, nukes, airstrikes, and heavy artillery being available during battles but only if you have the necessary units/buildings in a sufficiently nearby territory"

And then I realized that that would actually be pretty awesome.

I'd also add in mostly customizable units. Like with ships in games like Stellaris, only with an oldschool-style RTS.

Oh, and I'd throw in procedurally generated worlds. You can have your standard worlds, sure. But procedurally generated worlds with interesting options just make for soooo much more replay value.

The setting would probably be sci-fi. A recently colonized planet, with several gritty, non-pozzed factions. Bit like Alpha Centauri, but with more options and a few flexible templates for making your own faction.

…and if I can go all-out anyway, might as well throw in a city/colony builder expansion on top of all that. Make a new world. Build and manage a citystate in it. Watch as everything goes to hell around you and warlords, mercenary companies and corporate strike forces start tearing shit up. Then negotiate, bribe or hire groups you think can protect you. Or even switch into strategy mode and turn your urban planning project into a player faction in the colonized planet's world war.

And, fuck it - throw in a second expansion that adds in FPS and mech/aircraft/vehicle pilot options. Just for funsies.

Skateboarding game where you play as a wizard, call it "Board & Sorcery"

You could use spells during your jumps to pull off cool tricks that you couldn't do if you weren't a wizard. Imagine using a fire spell to propel yourself forward off of a castle wall and then using an ice spell to grind on ice-shelves protruding from the moat. Then you could style-switch over to necromancy spells in order to keep your grind combo going on rails made of bones. Once you reach the chasm, you style-switch again to the cosmic-sage spells so you could manipulate gravity to move directly down the cliff face, still grinding along the edges of the rocks until you stop time in order to grind along the full wingspan of a soaring dragon. You kickflip off of the dragon's wings just as your timestop spell wears off in order to style-switch again to your summoner spells, allowing you to commune with the spirits of the air to guarantee a safe landing and a high score.

Now do it all again so you can collect the W-I-Z-A-R-D letters this time, you missed the Z on the moat.

Best idea ITT so far

My idea is an arena shooter/rhythm game hybrid. Everyone is always hearing the same music at the same time, and certain weapons are stronger depending on the music and the timing of your shots.

Example: if this were the music https://youtu.be/p8efRFhEcuQ

The Bass Launcher (basically a rocket launcher) does high damage on the main drum beat, although it'll still do some boosted damage but not as strong on the off-beat drum. If you miss the timing entirely you get a weak rocket. Notably you also get more knock-back out of the stronger rockets so they're better for rocket jumping too. The Baseline Rifle (battle rifle) would work best when syncd with the baseline of course, so it would be best as five steady shots followed by a pause, then two shots in rapid succession, then back to the steady shots. Then when the alternative baseline kicks in at 0:46, you'd have to sync with that instead. You'd have guns that work with the vocals and some that are much stronger at different points in the match because certain musical elements are at play when they normally aren't. The super bfg sort of weapon is at its strongest when the drop happens, obviously. Pretty hackneyed idea but I like the concept.
