So I just finished playing this and it's sequel again and I don't understand why they got bashed so hard. They're obviously not Mario-tier and they were never going to become the new Mario/Sonic, but I find them to be very creative, unique and great games, especially the first. They're not perfect and have clearly noticeable faults, but they're far from mediocre and very underrated. The graphics have aged surprisingly as well and there's still a lot of eye candy.
Also of note: The soundtracks are incredible and it amazes me how they manage to fit the two games so perfectly.

Not to come off as rude but is English a second language? Blinx was widely loved and mostly it's lack of awareness is due to the original Xbox curse where basically EVERY GAME but halo ended up getting the shit stick.
Hell, even the second game was good, aside from being far too heavy on telling the player what to do

Unfortunately I don't see this. I love these two games don't get me wrong, but on Metacritic all I see is critics bashing the ever living shit out of both except Famitsu. I know Metacritic is bullshit and you shouldn't form your own vidya opinions on it like a sheep would, but those idiots still suck it up and form theirs because of it.
The games are clearly catered towards the Japanese audience and that's why they got much higher scores there, a 31/40 and a 34/40 respectively.

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play. Shoutout to the killer soundtrack which still holds up today as one of the greats.
As someone who played Blinx a lot as a kid but never managed to beat it, I think the game's main problem was the difficulty and clunky controls. Aiming the sweeper correctly was difficult and the camera controls aren't very good by modern standards. A lockon or targeting reticle was sorely needed. I think if the game had a bit more polish in that department it might have been more popular, but maybe it was always doomed to fail because it didn't fit the mature dudebro audience Microsoft was chasing.
I've never played the sequel so I don't know how it compares, though I've heard they fixed the issues I mentioned.

I like Skyward Sword. I like it quite a lot actually. It's definitely a flawed game, but when it hits it's high points it really hits them. I like it a lot more than Twilight Princess, which just felt like an utterly bland slog to me.
I like Castlevania 2. it's not that bad. For that matter, I kind of like the N64 Castlevania games too.
I enjoyed my time with Duke Nukem Forever. As much as it was a complete hackjob, I had fun with it.
MGS2 is one of my favourite Metal Gears, though that's not such an unpopular opinion these days.
Starfox Zero was fun, and with a few tweaks and a bit more content could have been easily the best Starfox game. For that matter I don't mind Adventures either. It's a decent Zelda clone.
DMC2 is fun in it's own broken way.
Code Veronica is fine. Don't really get what makes it "the bad one".

Donkey Kong 64 was great. And I'm not talking through nostalgia, or kid goggles. I've been playing the game through emulation and it still holds up. "Wah Wah, the game forced me to change characters through a barrel instead of on-the-fly. 0/10 game sux"
That's the complaint every detractor latches onto when hating on DK64 and it is really a small issue when look at the game as a whole

People often complain there's so much to collect, which honestly always just kind of struck me as a spergy completionist argument. These games are specifically designed so you don't have to get everything. That was the point. If you can't quit until you have every last banana fairy and you're pulling your hair out with stress, then you have a problem, not the game.

It was pretty much an excuse for him and the rest of his band to stroke their own dicks with the "I'm a Supa-Gangsta" mind-tone they still had (this was just before The Game joined G-Unit, and got kicked out with the most famous rap-feud of that decade). But I still like it to this day:
>Basic, but Fun Shooting Mechanics
>The Counter Kills are awesome
>The Bonus Content had my attention span (especially the whole Albums and Music Videos)
>The most satisfying headshot mechanic at the time
>Eminem playing a Corrupt Cop
>Dr. Dre playing a Gun Dealer
>A Plot so awesome, you wonder why it's not a movie (especially when "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" sucked)
> A Great Sequel (Blood On The Sand)
Some say it was a mess, but this was G-Unit Rap Music at it's prime (back when they didn't surrender to the mainstream).

Murdered: Soul Suspect
This game deserved to be so much more, the premise of playing as a ghost detective trying to solve your own murder is fantastic. The games biggest flaw was a lack of confidence its mechanics, with some of the worst hand-holding I've ever witnessed. Your one major 'power' is the ability to walk through walls and for some reason the devs thought nobody would walk through the walls unless we highlight the important wall brightly and constantly have other ghosts go walking through them over and over to show the player what to do. Other than that I had no complaints and absolutely loved the game.

The only thing that really made me angry was that they decided to Dub the European Version when we're used to the Subbed version of DBZ.
I guess the one thing I never liked about the Budokai games was the fact that they never felt as over-the-top brutal as the actual show was (I don't remember one DBZ game that had the blood, guns, dismemberment, black humour and nudity from the original source material).

I didn't mind it, it wasn't a board game per se, you were free to move wherever you want. I have hazy memories of it, but it wasn't so bad. I think the best thing of B2 was all the Majin Buu fusions and Fusions in general, I think? I don't remember if they returned in B3, I don't think so.
>>16942948
Reminder that Budokai Tenkaichi really improved the whole Budokai formula, even to nitpick points like the brutality you are talking about. There's still no blood, but if you use an ultimate attack strong enough you can basically erase the opponent's body.
Now that FighterZ is a thing, Budokai is kinda useless, really.

I really liked all Four Borderlands Games.
I'd tell you I like it just for the Gameplay and it' mostly true, but I did end up liking some of the characters you meet along the way. Even if a passable characters like Hammerlock or the OG Vault Hunters can still throw out a cringey line.
Even if you do like Borderlands you'll probably hate the Pre-sequel, which I actually like just as much if not more.
Writings bad all over and all but the first one aged like milk, One BL2 DLC has just as much cringe as you'll get through Pickle's Voice throughout and the 2 Feminist "Jokes" that's both made in the beginning. But over all, I think the Skill Trees are more Unique, You get to the end game quicker and less painfully, and I think the maps are better. It's kind like Bioshock 2 where it's less atmospheric with a worse Villian but with better gameplay.

Borderlands 1/2 are a weird case
Weirdly, Borderlands 1 legendaries despite what they did to make guns more "unique" in borderlands 2 were far more interesting.
And with the player classes, you either have considerable improvements to the basic role, ex: Krieg vs Brick or they're a godawful knock off of what the class action would have been in borderlands 1 ex: Decepti0n just being an obscenely shittier version of phasewalk, or axton's horrendusly shit turret that really only has the benefit of not getting stuck somewhere useless as easily.
Also the scaling makes high levels and TVHM and UVHM play like aids, and that's not even getting into the PLEASE PLEASE USE OUR NEW ELEMENT YOU LIKE SLAG RIGHT? mechanic.

I think the bigger issue is that the motion controls weren't really used in a way the improves the game as a whole.
It's kinda like how on pc now everyone uses the gyro in controllers since it's outstanding as a replacement for aiming in games (especially compared to sticks), but like for basic combat it's real shitty as a form of input.

The Castlevania 64 games are actually perfectly fine. Not as good as some of the sidescrollers, and a little clunky maybe, but that's nothing out of the ordinary for the era. I'd argue it is good as the first, but the scale at which the handholding impacts the core game makes it seem worse, and admittedly they could have done a better job making challenge mode more engaging.
If they fixed those things, and maybe, had online for the multiplayer it'd be a much much higher tier game, and it wouldn't be an especially hard thing to fix.
Really there only needs to be a basic tutorial for using time powers, and that you can combine them, though the game seems convinced you need it explained to you at ALL times with ALL combinations how to use them, that and the Tank Training could have waited until the level was cleared proper and then introducing a boss you fight with the tank in the next stage.

its nowhere near as bad as people (AVGN) have made it out to be. its perfectly playable, had a decent sound track with serviceable 90's style comic book visuals. the sprites have some crazy smooth animation, but they had to make them a bit small. story is simple but has some neat possibility's. (if it was ever fully realized)
I would much rather play Shaq Fu then some of the real stinkers that have come and gone over the years. Time Killers, Tattoo Assassins, Fight for Life, Way of the Warrior, Pit Fighter, Mortal Kombat 11.

Pre/Post update matters. If you play the pre patch build, then you're a weird motherfucker, but if you play the up to date builds it becomes slightly less weird because they fixed half ot the issues they had, the rest was just a result of peter molyneux syndrome.

,..what's also fucked is that they ended the game on a high note hinting @ a sequel.
When the sales didn't meet expectations they abandoned the project. I feel that franchise was one that had great potential.
Had they went ahead with a sequel no doubt it would've had something to do with lucifer attempting to overtake Heaven, it would've been sick.

Maybe I just wasn't paying attention but I didn't even know there were microtransactions in this game until I finished it.

Full confession: I played the ever loving shit out of this back in the day. Like for hours at a time. It was nerve-wracking but I was able to finally anticipate the fucked up drops into the pits and 9 times out of 10 was able to stop myself from dying.

Can you tell me what you liked about the game? I know the problem wasn't really the game but the sheer amount they made was the problem.
>>16950787
Nah it's still not worth it. They're scammers and the game isn't fun.

Undiagnosed aspergers and a neighbor who was more than willing to swap for a game I'd played to death.

The game was fucked and word traveled fast. The holes you were supposed to retrieve phone parts from were more like singularities. Every time you found a piece, you'd float up only to fall back in repeatedly if you hadn't developed a knack for moving the long-necked finger-prober away just right.

But yes, the amount of cartridges was also a problem. You couldn't give those fuckers away once the word got out. It was pre-interwebtubes so it didn't happy overnight like The Worst Of Us Part II, but it was still ruinously fast for the company. I found it for a dollar in a local toy store back then and didn't bother getting it since I'd already played it too much by then.

Is there an anime game with western style (preferably American) comedy? Like something like Conker/South Park but with big titty anime girls

No one ever talks about this game even though it's an absolute gem of a game dripping with style, and is completely unique. It has a few problems, but it's minor shit that tranny games journalists seethe over. What are you waiting for? Torrent it and play it NOW
