Sega is making a Game Gear Micro
>Sega is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year with another retro console, and it looks like it might be the tiniest yet. The Game Gear Micro is a revival of Sega’s 8-bit handheld system that tried (and failed) to overcome Nintendo’s Game Boy.
>More news is set to drop later today via Japanese gaming news outlet Famitsu. The promo shots show that the system will unsurprisingly run at least one of the (pretty good!) Game Gear Sonic the Hedgehog titles.
>An image initially hidden in the Game Gear Micro landing page also revealed that the system will come in four colors — black, blue, yellow, and red — and be released in Japan on October 6th this year for 4,980 yen, or about $46.

Is it suppose to look like a tamagotchi? Is it any wonder they got ousted out of the console war with decisions like this. Isn't retro mini consoles like so 2018 at this point? Not enough games on it, or bad choice of games picked to be on those mini consoles are a major problem. Also, they don't have licensed games since they can't be bothered to pay a license even if they are the most popular and prominent games that make that console.

The secret is that their executive staff has ALWAYS been retarded, yes even while they were good. That is the reason they eventually became bad in the first place, but it only became clear towards the end of Genesis' lifecycle when they completely fucked over the American branch with the 32 bit addon and Saturns release, despite the fact that they were doing a way better job than anyone could have reasonably hoped for. How often do you have a marketing campaign that succeeds in making outdated and inferior hardware look like the cool console for mature adults in comparison to one of the greatest consoles of all time? I think the primary difference is that without their talented product department they had back then, all they have now are the retarded suits.

Sega of japan was always dumb as a brick, the only reason Sega had any success was because Sega of America knew how to sell shit and actually asked costumers what they wanted. SoA had little cards that came with games and systems that had questionnaires and sections for feedback. they even had a 1-800 number where you could call and get the latest news on games, and purchase guide books. you could also leave feedback messages (and they would even call you back)
Sega of Japan was so jealous of SoA they actuality tried to fuck them over numerous times.

Not true. Sega of america was as retarded as Sega of japan, their sales strategy was fucking dumb, they relied on edgy commercials and appealing to 90s memes, plus their aggressive strategies didn't work in japan or even in europe. It wasn't a matter of jealousy but simply different ideas for different demographics, but still working under a single company as a whole. SoA and SoJ could have been entirely different companies, and more than sabotage, the fact that these ideas always clashed led to misunderstanding and problems between the two.
The solution could have been simple leave control to either of them, but that would mean they would either lose the american market or the japanese market. They just ended losing both.
They are both to blame to what happened.

I don't think they'll be great without a massive shift in staff. Sega had good R&D and designers working on their consoles. They've lost what made them great because the execs fucked up too many times. I'm not keen on the history of the execs working at the Japan office but Japs tend to not shake up their leadership as much.

I always preferred playing on a decent TV with good video cables, and a decent stereo system. Sega is dumb for not putting out a game gear cartridge adapter for the Genesis like Nintendo did with super Game Boy.
