<The bill's goal is to introduce a so-called copyright small claims court, to make sure copyright holders suing on infringement grounds don't have to bring costly federal cases each time.
<Instead, the EFF noted in its criticism of the planned legislation, a quasi-court would be set up within the Copyright Office – which is not an impartial participant. The digital rights group is now warning that the CASE Act would remove many protections currently afforded to internet users, and expose them to copyright trolls.
<Even though the bill caps the fines at $5,000 – $15,000 per work – that's still high enough to financially ruin many Americans, where the average annual income is $57,652. And this is particularly true because the new process would leave those accused of infringement “without many of the traditional legal safeguards or rights of appeal [US] justice system provides.”
<To make suing people in this way even easier – and no doubt more appetizing for copyright trolls – the bill states that a copyright holder would be able to sue even if the work they claim had been infringed was not registered with the Copyright Office.
<That would produce a catastrophic situation. “Nearly every photo, video, or bit of text on the Internet can suddenly carry a $7,500 price tag if uploaded, downloaded, or shared even if the actual harm from that copying is nil,” the EFF warned, calling on internet users in the US to contact their senators and oppose the legislation.
<As for the danger posed by the CASE Act to free speech, the organization said it would turn the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) notice “into a long-term censorship tool.”
<Namely, the bill would allow copyright holders to request that content be removed from online platforms, and at the same time bring their case before the new small claims court. The platforms would no longer be under obligation to act on a counter-notice and repost the content within 14 days.
<This could then turn into many months of effective censorship, the EFF is warning.

The problem is that people are too dumb and think in simple minded terms. They just think "A national popular vote is the more direct and more equal method of election, and therefore better." The founding fathers – like anyone who likes democracy – had the same initial inclinations too of course, they just spent a lot more time thinking about democracy in general and the problems with mob rule. They were extremely proud of the solution they invented too.
But nowadays it gets ignored. When people are dumb, they think highly of their own arguments and little of the others. When someone bothers to explain that the system was intentionally designed to avoid a direct popular vote it just gets dismissed in the dumbest ways possible. The other side can just turn it into "it was created for slavery" (which is false) or else the entire discussion gets derailed with "it is unfair to blue states" (which is motivated reasoning).

Not everything is political, yes games have themes in them that are political, but its different when its beating you upside the head with its "Point" where it makes anyone who has an apposing opinion on this political stance seem like the literal fucking devil, it just becomes annoyingly preachy. And the whole thing about how "Oh gamers only care when its a women or minority thats added in because they cant handle people that dont look or think like them."
Its different when there's an already pre-established black/gay/female character in the game, but it becomes a problem when suddenly it becomes the main issue. You added in said minority, suddenly its the best game ever made and you can never fault it or else you are everything wrong and toxic in the gaming community. Oh whats that you didn't add any minorities within the game? Well now we're gonna raise hell until you fix this issue, literally stalk and harass your entire team about it, have your company put on a lower pedestal because you don't know what gamers want, and if you have any fans that like this garbage game they are just homophobic/racist/sexist. Hell you even opt to replace already racially established characters because you're creatively stunted to make new unique characters.
Its a problem because even if you get what you want, you demand for more; The character isn't perfect enough, the character was designed by the wrong people, the character is voiced by the wrong person. You're never happy with the results and will bring others down when others dont find faults with it.

Reading about Tokkōtai pilots (the pilots that would carry out kamikaze attacks) and some of the final letters they sent before embarking on their suicide missions. I found a site that has a fuck ton of translated letters, photographs, and even some extended background into the lives of the pilots. Most of the pilots that did go out to carry the attacks were very young and unmarried. I think the Japanese government started looking at graduating college students so they could draft them into the Tokkōtai. Most of their final letters were to their parents and siblings, but a few older volunteers sent their last letters to their wives.
One of them was named Hajime Fuji, and his wife had actually committed suicide with their two small children in December of 1944. She took the kids out while he was away, the youngest riding on her back and the second-youngest tied to her hand, and jumped into the river with them. Fuji had volunteered to be part of the Tokkōtai, even though someone of his rank, especially since he had a family, wouldn't have been expected to go. He applied over and over until he was finally accepted. His wife opposed this, but she eventually came to accept his decision. She killed herself and the kids so that he could fight without reserve. He dedicated his final letter to them. It even had some really cute drawings on it.
There was another named Toshio Kuramoto. His final letter was to his parents and pregnant wife, Kimiko. Before they actually got married, Kimiko had read about some of the kamikaze attacks in the newspaper. While she was astonished by their bravery, she said the news left her heartbroken because so many of those men were young. They had mothers, brothers, sisters, girlfriends. Toshio didn't tell her that he would be carrying out those same attacks. Most of the pilots didn't tell their loved ones. Any letters or post cards they sent out had to be reviewed and censored by their superiors.
Kimiko only found it about it when she went to see him at a hotel he was staying at, only to find him gone. One of the female attendants met up with her and told her "Please, madam, now is the time to master your courage." She put two and two together and realized Toshio was going to be a part of Tokkōtai and broke down in tears. She boldly asked him up front if he was part of the unit, but he laughed it off and denied it every time. She knew him well enough to know he was in too much pain to speak honestly. Toshio was scheduled to carry out the attack, but this was delayed because of a week-long rain. During that week, Toshio spent time with Kimiko in a farmhouse not far from his base. They had gotten married with her family's blessing, even though it was obvious he was in the special attack unit.
Once again, Toshio was scheduled to fly out, but this was delayed further because he got into a minor crash with his aircraft, followed by even more rain. Kimiko said they took a stroll on the day it was raining, and that she folded her umbrella so that the rain would hide her tears. She was incredibly thankful that fate had allowed them a little bit more time together. They hung out at the farm house, held hands, and went on some lovely walks together. She even conceived their first child during this time.
But ultimately, the rain cleared up and the attack couldn't be delayed any longer. On the last day they spent together, they awoke just before dawn. Toshio was in a rush to get dressed and get his things together, but Kimiko slowed him down and said she would dress him for him. Toshio allowed it.
