I really like video games that try something new and make their loading screens enjoyable rather than some slog you stare at blankly while waiting to play. Post some examples of video games that spruced up their loading screens. While 'game tips' and backgrounds with hand drawn art is appreciated, it isn't very unique, so don't bother posting those.
I posted Skyrim's loading screen and, while the game itself isn't all that good as I'm sure everyone here would agree, you've got to admit it was a good idea adding still models to the loading screen like this which you could rotate around and examine up close.
I also posted GTA 4's loading screen for obvious reasons. The background music during the loading is quite nice, and the 2.5D effect with the background art is pulled off exceedingly well. I actually thing GTA V did something similar but I can't be certain.
There's also Parappa the Rapper 2's loading screen which is pretty cool, but I couldn't find a good picture of it so my description alone will have to suffice. Or you could look it up on youtube - the music is catchy and necessary.
Anyways, post some good examples of loading screens you've noticed.

I liked SOTN in both instances of loading screens.
>First instance screen consists on you moving the analog in order to move the now loading letters, only used in non gameplay areas, like loading the game from the memory card
>The second instance is a hallway to give the CD time to load the assets while not interrupting the gameplay at all, used to transit from one area of the castle to the next area
>The second one even says "CD" on the top of the hallway

ass creed games let you run around aimlessly in a void.
katamari the king would babble endlessly; listing random items.
max payne would play cutscenes during load times. if you skipped the cutscene itd show you a blank loading screen. if you didnt skip youd never see a loading screen. does that count?

Isn't Capcom infamous for using Okami as a reason why other games couldn't use loading screen minigames? Isn't there a patent or something on the very concept of a loading game, or am I retarded? Even if I am I find it ridiculous knowing so many games come out today with the most plain loading screens ever.

Can't answer your first question because I don't really keep up with whatever fuckery Capcom has said or done.
As for your second question, I doubt that that someone has a patent on loading screen games. But who knows. Maybe I'm wrong about that. Game mechanics have been patented before. For a while there, EA had a patent on the "dialogue wheel" of their Mass Effect and Dragon Age games.

Wild Arms 2 also had closing songs when you quit the game, though the western release cut the lyrics in favor of an instrumental, just like they did the openings. There were two versions used, depending on what disc the player is on: Disc one's features Lilka and the song "The Night Sky", while Disc two features Anastasia and "Don't Worry, Just Believe". I'd post a ripped mp4 of a video for the first, but 8ch doesn't like the audio stream.

Wasn't it one of the Ridge Racer games for the PSX that had a section of Galga you could play while it was loading. Never bought the game, but I remember playing a demo CD that had it on there when it first came out. Even though I think Namco holds the patent, I don't recall any other Namco games off-hand that actually use it. They just make sure nobody else can.

Strikes me as probably due to the fact that a lot of people might be more apt to turn the system off (or in modern cases just exit to the system menu) than actually go the manual "Quit Game" route, or that because most games don't do that to begin with, players aren't apt to anticipate it and thus would be seen by either the developers or publisher as a waste of time and resources, however minimal. You can put an opening FMV in front of your actual gameplay and players will have to take note it's there (even if they opt to skip it), but it's not as simple for a closing.

I think it was because of the mismatched codec streams. The default best quality youtube provided was h264 video with opus audio. 8chan wants webms with vp8 or vp9 video and opus or vorbis audio, and mp4s with h264 video and aac audio. I think vp9 can be muxed with mp4 containers now, so you were either ripping a .mkv video, which 8chan doesn't allow, or a mp4 with vp9 video, which again 8chan is picky about. So the problem wasn't with the ripping or file itself, but 8chan's annoying restrictions on file uploads.
Even more finnicky is that 8chan doesn't like it when the audio stream is in the first index of the webm/mp4 file and the video is the second. So even if the file met all its filetype requirements, the order of how the video and audio is stored in the file could have been the problem too.

I suppose it depends on if the game uses autosave or manual saves. If the latter, it's usually just an issue or not turning off the system (or pulling out the memory card or game, in the case of older systems) during the save process.
