I'm not really playing a real flight simulator but still a light simulation of aerodynamics nonetheless, flying a modernized propeller naval fighter I designed, inspired on the Eaca-b/Flying Tara from Metal Slug. Its armed with four MGs and a cruise missile, also equipped flare and chaff dispensers (four, two on each side). I also made a Flying Tara version which is pretty much identical aside from being painted in green and carrying a Mk 80-like bomb instead of the cruise missile. I have to say I'm not 100% happy with this design, I'm thinking of changing the rear of the cockpit and raising the tail just a little bit.

>I like to make up little stories to make my flights more than just point A to point B.

Thought I was the only one with that autistic habit. I like to use Modern Dispatch's military mission generator to give me randomized suggestions of things to do in SP.

I just finished improving both designs and they now kinda look like real aircraft rather than cheap chinese toys. Both the tail and the stabilizers have been raised, I also replaced that rear wheel with a retracting one because the previous wheel made the entire plane look retarded. The front of the cockpit has been changed instead of the back, then both parts were lowered and now the entire cockpit looks better than before. Other minor changes were adding a tailhook to the Eaca-N and replacing the Mk 80 on the Eaca-C with a lighter bomb. Here are their specs and some screenshots, don't be alarmed by the absurd amount of fuel and empty weight, that's just a tiny fuel tank hidden inside the fuselage that was modded to contain a nearly infinite amount of fuel yet be light as a feather. I don't like dealing with fuel, its a hassle and I play SP for arcadey fun rather than autistic realism

Ogden, Utah's Standard-Examiner newspaper broke the news that officials in the country of Georgia had arrested Tishchenko earlier this year and extradited him to the United States. American authorities arraigned him in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah in Salt Lake City on March 15, 2019.

Nearly four weeks later, U.S. Magistrate Brooke Wells signed a detention order declaring him to be a flight risk and he's been in the Weber County Jail ever since. The 42-year old programmer has pled not guilty and his trial is scheduled to begin on Aug. 19, 2019.

My oldest uncle came over from Europe to visit for a few weeks when I was a little shit (like 7 or 8, can't remember exactly) and introduced them to me. He was a total computer geek and had brought over a bunch of his own software to fuck around with in lieu of books or watching TV or whatever. Given what I can remember and looking at pictures of how the cockpit displayed in subsequent versions, I'm pretty sure it was MS Flight Simulator 4.0, which even then (mid 90's) would have been dated, but maybe that's just what he had.

Anyway, he was one of the only people in my family who really recognized how gifted I was. Not too many people would hand a goddamn third-grader a flight simulator and expect them to be able to manage anything. After finding an old instruction manual at a garage sale (albeit for a different version) I even figured out how to navigate with VOR stations and use the ILS properly rather than just (lol) winging it on landings and trying to dead-reckoning myself to random airports whenever I could see them.

For the most part I just did short flights around wherever, but sometimes I got more ambitious. Once I decided I was going to load up a jumbo jet and fly literally across the fucking Atlantic from New York to London. Granted, a lot of this time I just left the thing running AFK because I hated messing with the game speed (on principal, probably because of autism) and came back later. But here's the rub: the version I was playing didn't have ANYTHING simulated outside of the USA except for the land and water (and even then only sorta). So when I attempted to land in England, there was NOTHING AT ALL but empty grey and perfectly flat land; no buildings, no roads, no airport of any kind. I remember being highly annoyed that I took hours to make the effort and got nothing, but in retrospect that's existentially terrifying in a very Stephen King's: The Langoliers sort of way.

I don't really have a good answer. Depending what you're flying, there's probably a (real world) manual somewhere that gives you that kind of information. I have to imagine real pilots have some kind of chart/calculator that takes into account flight level, temperature, wind shear, etc.. But for me, I just found a tutorial of sorts that gave me the numbers, and based it off of that. Really, as long as you're running things efficiently with regard to fuel consumption and engine torque, the airspeed will sort itself out and vary due to conditions.

I honestly only had fun in that game through EC sim mode so idk what you're embarrassed about. It's obviously not a "proper sim" but it's for me the perfect balance of reeelism and gameplay, what drove me away from it was just the scummy devs, retarded playerbase and the glaringly obvious soviet bias. Absolute wage is pointless to use as a metric because cost-of-living is everything. Even inside the same country, you can make ten times as much as someone else and still be barely scraping by. If I made $300 a month I couldn't even afford HALF of my RENT PAYMENT, to say nothing of food or games. I'd be living out of my truck and wouldn't even have a computer, much less internet. b9f362  No.16642590

bacee7  No.16642698

>>16640242

Helicopters are completely different from airplanes. An airplane will basically fly itself if you point it forward and maintain the correct airspeed, while a helicopter requires constant nonstop adjustments by the pilot. You not only have rudder pedals and a yoke like an airplane, but an additional lever off to one side, so both of your hands are occupied a lot of the time.

68dc23  No.16644346

>>16642829

pitch angle and throttle

bacee7  No.16645928

>>16642829

Long story short, the way you control how a helicopter moves is primarily by titling the main rotor blades. What the center stick does is cyclically (hence it being called the cyclic) tilt each rotor blade as it reaches the same position of the rotation, making the craft pitch forward or back, or yaw to the left or right. If trying to figure out just how the fuck it can be able to do that while the rotors are spinning as ungodly speeds hurts your brain, you have a better appreciation about why helicopters took so much longer to invent than airplanes. The lever collectively tilts all the rotor blades (hence it being called the collective). There's also usually a twist-throttle on the end of the collective, which makes the rotor blades spin faster or slower. Depending on how you want to move or how thick the air is will determine the correct throttle setting and how you want to rotor blades collectively pitched, just like how airplane propeller blades need to be properly pitched depending on airspeed and altitude.

>Not using the F-14

The plane is so much fun it's criminal. Just watch it, it's a TOTALLY different beast. No flight assist, no fly-by-wire, the inputs are analogue, so no computer will dial down the input if it goes into dangerous range. You can make manouverse that will rip your own wings off if you're not carefull. Upside is that you can do some crazy stuff on manual (like afterburn only one engine to increase your turn)

Crazy.

Looks like the F-14 can take off with swept wings.. and can take off without a catapult!
