One thing I'd been thinking about was incorporating the idea that synergy and cooperation are key things for ensemble music pieces. So as far as combat is concerned give characters clearly defined combat roles that need to synergize with each other for maximum efficiency. So either something like Fusion attacks in Persona 2 where using specific spells during the same turn yeild a combo attack. Or making it so that abilities performed in order create different effects (ex. Using a water spell to drench opponents, and following up with lightning to stun them).
To reinforce the notion that this group can't perform together and are out of practice, mirror that onto their ability lists. Teagan has a good spread of abilities and can fit in anywhere because she's practiced and focused. Alto might fluxuate on what spells she has available depending on equipped items to reflect how she's practiced, but very whimsical and neglectful.
Repeat this down the line.

No, no it's not.
In each sequence in Duet, Teagan jumps in to prevent things from going too edgy. Waking up Alto while she's having a nightmare, breaking down the gate, each item gained has a completely opposite description, and that's just what I remember off the top of my head.
The setting of each scene is the same, but the context to each is reversed, and really, you're not going to fully understand the greater context of those scenes unless you know how they deviate from the main plot.

Alright, I missed the summer stream, so my memory of Duet is a bit fuzzy as I haven't seen it in a year, but are the differences between the vanilla and modded dungeon substantial enough (Winter Alto fight not included) to warrant playing both through methodically.
Nevertheless, since this does seem to be an issue, I propose that, if we can, we redo this dungeon in entirety and get ending 4 on Christmas Eve and then go directly into CODA, and then finish it off with Duet. I can't even put it well in words, but I would label the experience of watching the original sequence as the "suffering" to Duet's "healing".

That whole section is the buildup for the big reveal that is to come.
With the difference, were as the original tries to show us how Alto had to suffer through all her hardships alone and thus has Alto wander through her past cruel memories in solitude, Duet depicts, that Alto always had a friend in Teagan at her side, and has Teagan protect her throughout the whole dungeon.
Cases in point:

I think Alto is implied and Arrietta outright stated to have autism by the game's creator.
I bring this up because the one negative commenter on Pittura brought up Alto's "possible" autism as a reason to sympathize with her over the "neurotypical" Teagan. The fic's author proceeded to out themselves as autistic and state that Teagan resonated with them on that front a lot more than Alto did.
It would be pretty funny if that were yet another way FP screwed up the writing so that it's Teagan who reads as autistic to actual autists despite Alto being the "possible" canonical autist.

The interesting thing about the Tower Scene is the fact that this is a conversation between Teagan and Alto, two people who have been friends longer than they haven't been friends. Yet despite this, Teagan has NEVER mentioned the reason she took up the violin. Teagan has never mentioned her reason for doing everything she has, despite years of friendship.

To write a believable autist would require FP to have Alto make social fuckups occasionally, or otherwise do weird and not normal shit, but Alto is not only normal to FP, but better than it. Teagan, however, is written to constantly fuck up socially (due to the rest of the world being degenerates) and generally acts out of tune with society at large. This makes a much more compelling arguement for magical autism than can be made for the normalfag's "autismal supergenius" that Arietta is supposed to be or Alto being >Alto.
In conclusion, I believe FP just saw the word autism and tacked it on to Alto for immunity to criticism, as many Tumblrfags do. The funniest part is that, by writing Teagan to be against all of her society in one way or another, she's ended up making her seem that much closer to the real 'tism by comparison.

If you looked up the signs of a sociopath or a psychopath, Alto would proably fit some of it pretty well. At the very least she's probably not quite a normal functional human being given her upbringing, completely ignoring the fact that she wants to end the world. Considering the fact that she wants to end the world, she's got some sort of major issue. I wouldn't call it autism, it's more likely what I mentioned earlier, clinical depression, or a terminal case of Shinji Ikari. Regardless, Teagan and Alto really deserve each other. Alto is a fuckup who seem to think she's done nothing wrong and is probably actually an asshole, and Teagan is an autist who thinks she knows better than Alto and tries to run her life but is too autistic to actually help that much.
