I’m planning a flight that makes a layover in Russia on my way to another destination. Do I need a full visa to transit through Russia, or can I just get a transit visa? How long can I stay in Russia without needing a full visa, and what documents or steps are required for a transit visa application?

Indian citizens who are transiting through Russia may not need a full visa if their stay is within the transit area and lasts no longer than 24 hours. However, if you plan to leave the airport or stay for longer than 24 hours, you will need to apply for a transit visa. The transit visa allows you to stay in Russia for up to 72 hours, but you must provide proof of onward travel, such as a valid flight ticket to your next destination. If you’re just changing flights and not leaving the airport, a visa may not be necessary. To find out more about transit visas, visit https://clearthesmoke.org.
