 No.6465 [View All]

It has come to my attention that the Disneyfags are either incapable, unwilling or simply too lazy to come up with a coherent political narrative in their soywars movies. I get that the NuRepublic gets wiped out by a galaxy cannon but what or the first order? The Empire in the OTS had several layers of their organization that is acknowledged and foreshadowed in every film. Imperial Navy, Armed Forces, Stormtroopers and then you get into the Moffs and their power, layered at one point by the Senate and after their dissolution replaced by direct control by the Emperor. The PTS expanded this even further, almost ad nauseum, and had a ton of political narrative. So much so that you could destroy Coruscant and the governing body would adapt very quickly.

NuWars removes this brilliant, well written facade and replaces it with 2 terrorist factions vying for power, and not even real power but occupying power backed by fucking industrialists. Also it's baffling to consider the First Order as some kind of purified Imperial Remnants, yet have a General commanding their Navy (think Veers would be competent enough to command Death's Head Squadron?), a Captain commanding all the Stormtroopers while simultaneously fulfilling a continuous combat role, and literally 0 politicians or anyone capable of being a politician in the entirety of the First Order, who lionizes former political geniuses like Tarkin, Palpatine and many others. The nuCanon's wookie page will even tell you that the FO's government is a "military junta."

So my question is simply: why? The stripping of authority in these films is so obvious and forced that one begins to think that it was done on purpose. I've read in a thread that the Chinese were put off by politics in these films but I am flabbergasted to believe this. Is Disney just lacking the ability to write political narrative? I can't believe we've gone from seriously opinionated political discussions by members of the Imperial Navy for no reason other than creating a rich galactic story with much content to a babby land-force general commanding the entirety of the Navy.

Disney believes the goy to be idiots, simple as that. I imagine they also have some ==old== market research that shows people dont like politics in their adventure movies, the market research has to pe preTrump because if your not political nowadays both sides fucking hate you.

The nonsensical FO structure comes from the wish to keep an enemy for the good guys to rebell against. Also they cant show the FO to be the underdog because that goes against their leftist agenda.

The impression I get of it is the Morlochs/Eloi from the Time Machine, and that when the protagonist goes to the end of the earth there’s a lobster-creature chasing a pretty butterfly and he realizes it’s the descendants of the Morlochs and Eloi

It’s like the Republic and Trade Federation were these big vibrant factions, the Empire and Rebellion were more evolved to fight each other, and then the Resistance and First Order are just the butterfly and lobster, this sad echo that just doesn’t matter anymore.

This. Any history class taught by a Marxist comes off as chaotic events that just sort of happened while they focus on the class structure of a society. This is why the focus is on how the First Order and Resistance treats people, not on their actions or motivations.

Nothing makes sense because the nu-canon is basically ANH.

It was discussed here. FO makes no sense as a rebellion who wasn't a threat, only to a paranoid disgraced senator who created her militia to counter it. And then they blow up some capital planet and "the new republic fleet" (Like a regime ruling like 2/3 of a galaxy would have one single fleet in one system, even if the military was downsized due politics, sure) and suddenly it isn't capable of mounting any resistance besides a partisan group with a flotilla.

Don't mind that said rebellion just lost their base/planet killer and yet was able to mount a galaxy wide invasion, while controlling less than a quarter of the galaxy.

There is something called numbers and industrial capability.

The way the FO is depicted is just a splinter group incapable of mounting a galaxy wide campaign of conquest.

of course it was done on purpose. every new character is basically a virtue signal, except the white males. all the women and poc are shown as level-headed and competent while the whites are portrayed as bumbling or disgruntled fools. top that off with the idea of "love and hope is all you need" mixed in with a little communism and racemixing, and you have soy wars.

Their motivations are very basic, but are they not clear? The First Order thinks that the Galactic Empires was an improvement over the Republican system, believes in Palpatine's declaration, and thinks it has a duty to put those principles back in charge. The Resistance wanted to cockblock the FO by helping people living in worlds outside of Republic jurisdiction fight back against the FO's attempts to assert itself.

It's not an original story and mostly just pilfers from the EU with some superficial modifications, but their motives seem clear enough.

>>6576

There's a real lack of there being a sense of scale in these movies and tie-ins. People will counter that the OT was likewise very simple open to a lot of questions that 30 years of spin-offs answered by filling in the blanks, but that's not a good enough answer anymore. For the same reason Sheev just being "The Emperor" in RotJ doesn't justify wasting Supreme Leader Snoke in TLJ. We have (or had) that broad, deep, immersive, detailed lore which set a new standard and upped the ante. Expecting all of the fans to just reboot their expectations of Star Wars too is naive and lazy. What they're clearly hoping for is that the majority of "Star Wars fans" have never picked up EU material and hold fast to the maxim that true Star Wars consists of the OT and a few personalized headcanon tidbits from the prequels. The rest of us who were attracted to Star Wars precisely because the scope and size of the EU was hardly rivaled by anything else are expected to be satisfied with the steady retcons or just fuck off and die.

>>6595

Popular regard for the series is only going to get worse as Lucasfilm hires more people more interested in hawking a political judgement instead of making compelling entertainment. At some point either Disney will clean house and put somebody who might right the ship like a weak effort is being made at Marvel or the ideologues will drag it down with them.

>So my question is simply: why?

Several reasons:

1. Disney and Abrams were not creative enough to envision a Star Wars where the good guys were anything other than underdogs fighting an oppressive regime. That's why the good guys in TFA are "the Resistance," even though they're literally the established government for the galaxy. That's why Starkiller Base blew up the seat of galactic power - not because it was an emotional scene, but JJ needed a way to turn everything back to an ANH-style political atmosphere.

2. Disney and Abrams wanted this portrayal for their own real-world political reasons. They are all globalists and they want the populace to have an antifa-level understanding of politics. That means the good guys have to be a multicultural, multisexed, multiracial group of rag-tag people fighting against the culturally unified, white-male-dominated fascist regime.

3. JJ and the Jewish establishment in Hollywood wants people to stay mad at the Nazis. WW2 was a long time ago and people are starting to not care. JJ shoved a bunch of dumb out-of-place shit in there so he could have his Nazi bad guys. That's why the First Order officers have cuff titles on their uniforms, why Hux had to give that ridiculous speech, why red-and-black First Order flags are fucking everywhere, and why the assembled troopers gave a pseudo-Roman-salute.

This fucking kills me because my favorite part of Star Wars was the examination of galactic-level politics, given workable methodologies of faster-than-light travel, almost-instantaneous communication, and certain philosophical issues regarding "light" and "dark" magic. Thanks to the extensive content in the EU, the struggle between the Rebellion and the Empire was not just a struggle between good and evil, but rather between two different types of governance that each had their strengths and weaknesses. The Republic was a dysfunctional and corrupt body that was unable to protect its own citizens from insurrectionist forces. The Empire was a strong, unified government that made considerable sacrifices in terms of freedoms and liberties to ensure that its people could life and thrive in a secure society. There are arguments to be made for each.

>>6566

That's actually a pretty funny comparison

>>6638

Why does "the Resistance" have to exist at all? The Alliance restored the Republic, right? Isn't there a Republic military capable of chasing down the last remnants of the Empire? The Legends EU makes so much more sense in this regard.

the excuse is that the republic declared the remnants to be no threat to peace and so they downsized their military by 90%. probably still enough to fight the first order tbh.

>90% military reduction

You're joking right? There's still peacekeeping to do between various factions within the republic. And there will still be local forces belonging to individual states. Surely they could scramble something together to launch at the first order until they could demilitarize to build new fleets. Or recommission their old ships. Answering one question here just creates ten more!

The demilitarization has a precedent in the old canon -the military downscaling during the Ruusan Reformation. But the comparisons end there. Valorum's Republic, though devastated, was triumphant and uncontested in its rule of the galaxy, while the Disney Republic still had a truce with a rump Empire in the Core and roving Imperial Remnant threats towards the Outer Rim.

There was a demobilization after Ruusan, yes, but at the start of the Clone Wars the Republic was able to produce a navy capable of galactic wide operations in the span of a year. Remember that the CIS was at first an armed force made from fucking traders and industrialists, that's how the scale of galactic things are. Rich corporations in secession were able to produce ships and droids to fight a galactic war. Now imagine a government which controls like 2/3 of a galaxy. If anything the FO would have an advantage against the New Republic for a couple of months and that counting the decapitation of the government. If that wasn't some stupid ANH ripoff, the Republic would be put under some state of siege/martial order while a counterstrike were being prepared.

Headcanon time.

After the fall of Palpatine, the Empire would be split into multiple factions. Rather than it all being consumed by the Rebels, the Imperial Navies would be strong enough to hold key assets and systems, whilst the old Separatist systems and old strongholds would begin their recovery in the New Republic, together with systems that would manage to overthrow their local Imperials. However, they would be squabbling and competing over one another and the Republic would be weak and inefficient. Most notably it would seem short-lived. However, they would still manage to force a truce with the Imperial Remnants, as the Empire would have a civil war between surviving Moffs and ambitious Governors. The splintered Republic would need a large navy to fight off space pirates that plague the trade routes, meaning that the heavy industrial planets such as Mon Calamari, Cato Neimodia and Geonosis would come to hold major political power and even autonomy, whilst Outer Rim territories held by the New Republic would be havens for Space Pirates, some aligned with the local powers.

The Empire on the other hand faces many a decade-long struggle against its own factions and terrorist organizations funded by the New Republic. Ambitions, visionaries, collectors would come to define most territories through battle-prowess. The death of the Sith would mean a spiritual awakening across the Galaxy, and especially in Sith-controlled areas. Formerly dying and secretive religions would surge to power and bolster or hinder conscription and taxation, meaning that major religions would have to be domesticated. This would mean the rise of a Vader-cult, or a strong belief in the Chosen One. Their strong faith would let them experience more battle-prowess, morale and troop loyalty than the other factions, but not enough to be a decisive bread-winner.

The third parties, such as Hutts and the resurrected Jedi Order would not get directly involved in the mess. Initially. Luke would mostly focus on training the new generation of Jedi. However, because most of the texts were lost, he has to consult Force Ghosts and deal with former high ranking Imperial cultists to find the knowledge needed for the Jedi to return.

However, the Jedi would not be able to have a monopoly on force-users, and all the newfound Force cults and religions would seek them out and try to grow them according to their doctrines. Some more successfully than others. This would create many nuanced problems for the Jedi to solve, and they would act independently from the New Republic, especially after Luke saw the folly of the old order. The Vader cult would learn of Luke's relation to Vader and continuously wants to recruit and assimilate the Jedi Order to its ranks. Leia's blood link to Luke/Vader would remain unknown for her protection.

There would be unaffiliated, hidden worlds. Some of the Droids from the Clone Wars would seek independence and self-improvement in the Unknown regions, and would find old artefacts and foundries of unknown precursors, and fight off against threats previously known only by the Chiss. Not only that, but we would need an alien faction that is not Vong.

Eventually the bloodlines of Solo and Skywalker would become embedded with powerful Force Users who took more or less prestigious social positions. The New Republic would splinter and the Galaxy would be in a state of Pandemonium, awaiting for the spiritual successor of the Fel Empire to emerge from the Vader-cultists.
