GREETINGS /sw/
The Infinity Cup is returning once again, and 8chan's boards will be fighting it out on the pitch to claim divegrass supremacy. As a board that has participated in the Cup at one point or another in its history, you are invited to the reveal stream for 2019 Summer edition of the Cup. On Saturday June 22nd, at 3 PM EDT/7 PM UTC, on cytu.be/r/8cup I'll be giving you guys an early look at the Cup's 5th edition, which will include revamped aesthetics, team stadiums and other quality of life improvements I've figured out how to do in PES 17. Hopefully this will get anons back on board with the Cup, considering it has struggled mightily since its 2nd incarnation.
So how is it going to go down? I'll be staging a couple of exhibition matches between teams using their rosters from the last Cup, and we'll shitpost our merry way through the stream. Once the stream ends, entries will be open for the Cup, and boards can start putting together/editing their rosters and kits. Entries will close in early July, the field will be determined, and the Group Draw will take place approximately a week before the Cup kicks off in August. I'm also hoping to possibly introduce managers for the Cup, although I'm still working out the details to keep this from devolving into a namefag dick measuring contest. I hope you all will tune in, and in case you aren't caught up on your board's history, I've provided some links below to get you caught up:

So what should the roster this tournament be like? Classic characters? Theme faction? A shitpost roster? Name every member of the team Disney Is Dogshit? Load the roster with obscure characters like Qorl and Kueller to confuse people? Decide players by how they work in different positions? My only requests for team members are Kyle Katarn and Mandalore the __, where the blank will be filled in by other posters' consensus. We may want something else to set us apart from the old Disneyfag board, so we should consider changing the music for Sheev or giving more players their own theme music.

Since it's apparent that our buckyball skills aren't up to par with the free throwing field goalies of the world, we should find something we can work with by figuring out the setup that most closely resembles the military tactics we see all our favorite pew-pewing fleets and armies using. We can reenact the attacks on either Death Star or go defensive by mimicking Hoth. Or we can take the Imperial side in those battles and go the opposite way. We don't get enough details about most of the EU battles to mimic them, sadly. This is also for the most part true of the prequels, and nobody here has any desire to use the sequels for anything. Battles coming from the vidya entries have few to no defined tactics because they're open to player interpretation. Another alternative would consist of doing our own theorycrafting about how Jedi would play hooliganball and adapting it into a play style.

Look up some games on youtube. Looking at the wiki there's three themes:
>the anthem (entrance music)
>the goal horn (plays whenever the team scores)
>goal horns for certain players (most boards have 0-1 of those, but /pone/ and /intl/ use 3)
Most seem to be in favor of Force Commander as the new entrance music. Augie's Municipal band works as Sheev's goal horn, unless someone has a better pick.
That means we need to decide on a new generic goal theme now. The old one was the Imperial March and the Force Commander theme is a remix of that.

Only the forward players are likely to score goals, and most teams never run more than 3 forwards because it compromises defense, so the only way you'd ever need very many goal horns is if we use a team of all midfielders. Offense-oriented characters are obviously the best for forwards, meaning Kyle shouldn't be the goalie which is what he's currently listed as. A new backup goalie should either be somebody like Obi-Wan who fights like a goalkeeper with strong defense and shot blocking or a shitpost player. We could also use ships or vehicles noted for high durability in defensive positions, but roundball matches take place on foot the last time I checked. Since midfielders tend not to score goals unless you use far more of them than normal and have few distinctive traits other than covering the most distance per match, midfield is probably the best place to position shitposts or other miscellaneous players. I'm beginning to think we should just go ultra-shitpost funtime with all of it and not worry about trying to win, though. From looking at the threads on /8cup/, it seems like the majority of boards haven't bothered with any of the detailed strategies in any of the previous cups.
We could also have a custom arena, but the Geonosis Arena is the only stadium in the entire franchise AFAIK.

Could you give the thread a more detailed outline of how strategic planning will work? In >>>/8cup/3120 you talk about daily strategy sheets versus general sub-strategies. What's the difference between those and what are the responsibilities of a manager? Should we have the entire team outfitted with play styles, player cards and every option in the team strategies menu filled out before we can participate? I doubt you'll get enough people from all the boards to be managers if it involves effort, and some may not want a lot of tryharding because they think it makes the whole thing less fun.

>Could you give the thread a more detailed outline of how strategic planning will work?
Every team will be required to have a Base Strategy Guide that sets default team behavior on attack and on defense, plus any advanced tactics. The settings are outlined here: http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Team_Strategies. The Daily Strategy Guides were an idea I had, that would serve as a day-of-the-game adjustments to your Base Strategy, which the manager would submit. The idea was to have teams actually play a little chess on gameday and introduce some 'managing' without having namefags shitting around everywhere. Like you said though
>I doubt you'll get enough people from all the boards to be managers if it involves effort, and some may not want a lot of tryharding because they think it makes the whole thing less fun.
At this point it doesn't look like we'll do any sort of managing, so we'll just stick to Base Strategy Guides.
>daily strategy sheets versus general sub-strategies
The whole thing with substitutions was that I was going to have them as part of the Daily Guide not the Base Guide. Since the Daily idea is currently on life support, I'm likely going to add in a "General Sub Strategy" section to the Base Strategy Guide, which will just have statements, like "Sub off most tired CB at the 55th minute" or whatever you come up with.
>Should we have the entire team outfitted with play styles, player cards and every option in the team strategies menu filled out before we can participate?

We need more from the movies. I vote for having Firmus Piett as an attacking midfielder whose job is to intensify forward firepower. We should also have Lando Calrissian somewhere up front since he's the smooth operator and fighter attack leader that shouldn't be left out.

Basically 3 jerseys. One for home, one for away, and one alternate. You make kits by filling out a template, which is in the link below. We've got two already here >>34186 . I think the Stormtrooper kit will work as our Away kit. If you're up for a bit of shooping I think a Royal Guard kit would work as our Home kit, and either an Imperial Pilot's uniform could work as our Alt kit.

>base roster
We need 18-23 names to fill out our roster. I don't think we need to stat them out to be considered for the cup, so we can worry about that later. According to our entry in the infinity cup wiki we have 18 names already, so that's enough for a submission, and we can take 5 more if necessary. Full rules are here:

How about we make the GK kit an Imperial Royal Guard or Dark Trooper since we're the stormtroopers and they're stormtroopers with abilities the standard troops don't have, like the GK having permission to handle the ball? No.34842
I just took another look at the roster on the wiki and all spots have indeed been filled. Can we change the player positions after the submission or do we need to pick them now? We should at least have a single CF changed to SS. We may also have less difficulty with some plays if we changed some CMFs or DMFs to LMF and RMF or even LWF and RWF since we have no wingers right now and we should ideally have somebody for every position. But we have enough to make it work without doing that if the board doesn't want to bother. CF to SS is the only essential adjustment.
Other things: Since our rep already put Meatbag on the roster and that was originally my request, I want to put Lando Calrissian there instead unless the board likes Meatbag better. It also looks ridiculous for Wicket to be a forward and it would offend my autism less if he were switched with Kyle, but maybe that's part of the fun, and I already made more roster requests than I originally said anyway.
>>34825
The Imperial Pilot may also be an option for the last kit as mentioned in >>34572. Isn't there something that can be done as a recolor of a current kit?

I thought of something we can do for the last kit that won't take very long. We should just use Vader for the GK kit since a texture for his outfit won't be difficult to find. But we don't have much time remaining to deliberate our final touches.

It kind of has to at this point because today is the last day to submit a confirmation post to the /8cup/ confirmation thread and we're now eligible to confirm our entry with this kit. I say go ahead and use it and I doubt anybody will disagree. Now we just have to confirm the roster. Anybody object to the roster changes I described above? If not, let's get the roster changes up on the wiki and get that confirmation post submitted. If so, I honestly don't care if we ignore my proposed changes other than the CF to SS thing since we're running out of time and we need to decide now.

I just went over to /8cup/ and apparently a confirmation post was already made at >>>/8cup/3252 several days ago with all required materials securing our entry into the tournament. Here I was panicking thinking we weren't going to get in because nobody posted here about having confirmed our entry. I hope we still have the opportunity to change our player positions up until the strategy sheet due date. I'm creating an alternate strategy in case the tourney master refuses this. Here's hoping.

I went to the wiki and rechecked it and our based rep made the CF to SS change I requested, along with some questionable asymmetric winger changes, but meh. I don't know whether the tourney master will accept it because another confirmation post wasn't submitted to the 8cup thread, but I'd argue that it should be accepted since the timestamp on the latest change is 19:07 20 July 2019 and the original confirmation post said our updated roster would be listed there, so any change made to the wiki entry before the clock strikes 12 should be allowed. If we can use any revision made before 00:00 21 July 2019, I'd rather use the 19:06 20 July 2019 revision due to it having left-right symmetry.

Too late for that now unless they extend the deadline, which is unlikely. I also doubt the tourney master will ever allow the use of any wiki entry revision aside from the most recent before the deadline if he allows a wiki entry update to qualify as a submission at all, because it makes so much trouble deciding which revision to use for each team. So the most that we could ever reasonably ask him for is to use the 19:07 20 July 2019 revision in spite of its lopsided positions unless changing player positions is still allowed and only the names are locked in. I can almost see the headline on some liberal shitrag site from their article about how ebil racist alt-right nerds stopped a black man from playing soccer. But I thought of a strategy change that might make this weird team work, so I'd at least like the most recent wiki revision to be used if player positions are locked along with names. If not, we should either go back to the 19:06 version or use Meatbag as a starter in place of Mulletman without changing their positions.
We should plan the future tourneys and the strategy sheet for this tourney by using a system of pre-due dates because we're a slow board and it's hard to get everybody together at the same time unless it's scheduled. Fortunately, future tourneys should require much less setup than this because we probably won't make nearly as many roster changes and we now have kits taken care of. We got rid of almost the entire roster this tourney.

You'd think that since the official deadline has now passed that the tourney master would be going around to every thread making sure everybody understands what's going on. Maybe he will at some point soon. We need to get confirmation on whether wiki updates are valid submissions or not and whether changing positions is still allowed so we can know what to plan. I have several different ideas at a basic level now according to each scenario. But I won't put the effort out to fully develop a strategy until we know for sure what team we're playing.

No.34964
I guess I'll address these new posts before posting the strategy sheet concept.
I went back and reread the /8cup/ thread a bit more thoroughly now that I'm not having a heart attack anymore and our rep's first talk with the tourney master there says the wiki updates don't qualify as submissions as specified in >>>/8cup/3134, so we got the update posted just in time. It should be noted that the rules page says nothing about what constitutes a valid method of submission. This should be stipulated on the rules page and in the OPs of all Infinity Cup threads. I initially assumed the deadline was when the 8ch clock turned over to the 21st, and when the submission hadn't been made by then I went full panic mode and overlooked the rest of the /8cup/ thread, or maybe just hoped we could get away with a wiki update as long as it was before the deadline because the rules never said we couldn't. Maybe I should go do some meditation or something so I don't freak out so much, because if this had been an actual emergency it could have gone very badly.
