Anyone knows about this book trilogy? it seems there's some art in it too. Katarn is pretty comfy EU material, so I'd like more of him (It's too bad the 2009 legacy figure is so expensive btw).

I know about them but never owned them. Are they worth the read? Any differences from the games?

I consider myself a book fan, but sadly I never bought any books that were an adaptation of the films or games with the exception of the ANH novelization. But if you want to read the books before buying them, I can get you a link to their pdfs. Read a bit, see if you like it, and then decide if they're worth your time.

Here's the first book. If you don't like it and it still doesn't interest you in getting the rest, I'll send the other two

From what I recall, the first book (Soldier for the Empire) rewrites the backstory slightly so Kyle is a freshly promoted stormtrooper officer when he defects rather than the acomplished veteran that the first game's manual had him be. Kyle is also explicitly a rebel agent working rather than a mercenary hired by the rebels.
The first book also focuses on the first level of Dark Forces (where you steal the Death Star plans), the later two books focus on Dark Forces 2. Overall I'd say they're different enough from the plots of the games with the addition of new scenes involving Jan or Kyle's Dad to justify their existence separate from the games.
