Why teleportation was never developed in the GFFA? I just read in the wiki that the Rataka used for an extent, but why the Republic never invested in it? Besides people transportation, it have it's uses in cargo hauling.

Why such practical tech was never put into use? They can build DS and other expensive toys but never something practical as teleport tech.

Star Trek only did it as a cost saver, it's a bullshit plot element that introduces parallel universe crossovers, transporter clones, resetting sick using stored pattern from earlier… blah blah blah. SW is better w/o it.

Because teleportation doesn't "feel" like Star Wars; it's too sterile and scientific for a setting meant to lend itself towards adventure. It would also be functionally useless by necessity of narrative, because its plot device nature demands that a hard counter exist to it in most scenarios. So you'd have the same sequence of events as normal in 99% of cases, except you have to put in some technobabble about why the transporters won't work right now, because if they did the problem would be solved very quickly and it's not as easy to fill your run time when things go according to plan. And if you have the budget for them, shuttle landing sequences just look plain better than teleportation As The Orville shows. Regarding the Rataka, remember that they used darkside-enhanced technology to control just about everything in their Empire, so it's quite possible this tech couldn't be replicated on a practical scale.

I recall the Republic in SWTOR had science teams studying the ancient teleporters which were very complex and they were capable of figuring out how to operate them even though they couldn't figure out what made it tick.

This essentially.

>it's too sterile and scientific

And that is why it would have been good for the idealistic past in the prequels. But instead we got jedis dressed like Tatooine farmers and 50s diners in space.

Those are out of universe explanations, meta/narrative explanations. Besides teleportation doesn't mean "copying Star Trek model".

>Regarding the Rataka, remember that they used darkside-enhanced technology to control just about everything in their Empire, so it's quite possible this tech couldn't be replicated on a practical scale.

Now this makes more sense in-universe. But raises the question why no other group which used the dark-side like the Sith would not research such useful tech. Better than creating zombies and dinossaurs like they did. If teleport tech is linked to the Force, there still no reason why no other force-sensitive group wouldn't research it.

That would just open up a planet sized can of worms. If the Old Republic had teleporters why wouldn't the Empire and the Rebellion use them? I mean that's almost as retarded as weaponizing Hyperdrives, only a complete fucking idiot would think that's a good idea.

Grand Master Luke eventually learns to teleport, but only the highest-tier Force users can do it. Presumably the skill and power level required to teleport an organic being is too high for a machine to replicate it. Even for a species as advanced as the Rakata teleporting just cargo, they probably had to use artifacts like the Star Forge that amplified Force power.

I would say that the in universe example, at least as far as Lucas and most EU is concerned is that it's just not possible and Rataka are stupid for being involved in the nonsense.

If that's not satisfactory, I'd say it's unnecessary. To use a real world analogy, we could, if we wished, ship things across the globe quickly with space rockets. But that would be wildly inefficient as the time saved would be offset by the ridiculous costs of shipping groceries via rocket. Likewise, even if teleportation was possible, the costs in energy alone would be astronomical.

To go back to the meta, Trek style teleportation does a whole lot to alter the setting. The same tech that let's them build you a new body from the particles in the area of transport is what allows replicators to just make food and everything else out of them air. Replicator tech is actually simpler than transporter tech. Luke wouldn't need to be a moisture farmer because they can just replicate water. There's also the quandary of breaking a person down and revuilding them somewhere else. Trek doesn't seem to be a universe where the soul is real, but it is in Star Wars, which would make the question and the inevitable transporter clones more troublesome.

> Besides teleportation doesn't mean "copying Star Trek model".

back in the 70s that's exactly what it meant, and so lucas used hyperspace instead. star wars was already being compared to trek, last thing lucas would want to do is appear to be more of a thief. this is why fuel wasn't an issue in star wars, the tech was just upgraded that well that shooting around in hyperspace was practically the closest thing to teleporters.

i'm still in the midst of watching st-tos for the first time and i have yet to come across any of those situations, but stargate sg-1 on the other hand made very good use of those possibilities with their time travel episodes.

i'd chalk that up to coincidence, two cultures separate by thousands of lightyears happen to dress similarly, or it implies the jedi have their origins elsewhere, or that they once held the fashion quota for the galaxy? tatooine is clearly backwoods space, it's very much possible that both they and the jedi use a more basic form of clothing on purpose, the jedi to represent their humble origins and tatooine to represent the fact that they never really technologically or fashionably advanced far. idk there's a lot of ways we could go about this.

Weren't those more like Stargate than anything else? I'm about half sure they needed to build one at both ends as well.

Teleportation is a force power. It's mentioned in Darth Plagueis. Apparently it is actually shown a few times in The Clone Wars.

You might be thinking of the old hyperspace cannon system. I wish we had more of that means of travel in SW, for bulk resources over short distances or something.

I think teleportation would ruin Star Wars. There's a dynamic to dropships and shuttles that would be lost. It's if anything a weakness of Star Trek even if it sometimes creates interesting plot points.

they have to constantly have the teleporters break down in star trek to present any sort of danger to the characters, or like in nu trek 1, they have someone who sucks at using them operating the device. otherwise it would just be "lol beam us up u fag" and then poof no more danger.

Complaining about the Jedi Order wearing robes is like complaining about how Catholic Priests or Tibetan monks won't wear modern clothing. And the reason many people wear robes on Tatooine because its a desert world orbiting around two suns, and like in real life, people who live in the desert favor light colored and loose clothing with good airflow.

i should also add on that samurai films are the obvious source for tatooine and jedi clothing. so basically what we have here is a ronin and a peasant, who dress relatively similar but just different enough to figure out who's who.

Ain't Coruscant climate whole controlled? Guess summers and winters were a no issue. The only relevant climatical feature was the storms due the some overlapping of planetary shields fuckup or something that caused them.
