Besides the cinematic effect, that 'battle" does make sense? That military tactics would work? Simply marching foward under fire?
You can only see infantary running around and shooting, massive waves, some artillery and very light air support from the part of the Republic. How is that useful against an entrenched enemy, with terrain and home advantage?
Also… what kind of orders are those? "Concentrate all fire in the nearest ship"? You don't need to be a jedi or a "general" to say that.
How you would do the battle sequence to make it less Hollywoodian?

it probably has hoth style force field. i mean it should fucking have one, its a top secret superfactory, its only logical they would have them

nothing implies that. fuck even korelia and kuat arent planetwide factories mainly because kuat builds its ships in orbit

If it had a shield… how those ships managed to enter the atmosphere? Shields had to be "open" to ships pass (Remember the rebels in Hoth had to lower their shields momentarily to their transports sneak out and their ion cannon to open fire)
>its very, VERY risky but it also is very effective if done right. in fact it has been a tactic of frogs and some special forces for a long ass time
For an extraction operation i agree, like the rescue of the senator and the jedi in that arena, really fitting to special forces. Besides that? Landing walkers, artilllery, gunships and infantary in a straight line? Just because? Makes no sense. They act like some ancient, non-long range weaponry battle. When you're a kid, it's nice to see, when you got past 30, it's awful to see.

THAT WASN’T THE IDEA
The idea was that war had been declared and a Grand Army was commissioned to fight the Separatists. Geonosis was the headquarters of the droid factories and where the entire separatist movement was hanging out. The Clones were heading there to occupy and the separatists were trying to get the fuck out of dodge because they were caught with their pants down. Poggle was planning to take his people into the catacombs, implying they were expecting an occupation.

The opening scene shows a cavalry rescue led by Yoda. Even if the idea was also occupy the planet, there was no reason to remove Padme and the Jedi from the battlefield.
And for fucks sake, if you are going to occupy a planet you don't march your troops into open field against an enemy with terrain advantage.
And for the occupation… there was no hint in later scenes or in the next movie that they occupied Geonosis.

Yoda took one landing craft to the arena and had a second strafe it. It was a small portion of his forces that he landed, extracted them, then got to the main battle.
>And for fucks sake, if you are going to occupy a planet you don't march your troops into open field against an enemy with terrain advantage.

Again, it only reinforces my point. They took a battered group, with an important politician, one of the leaders of the opposition, and instead of whisk them away to safety, they charge along to a battlefield.
>If you have a million troops to bring to bear, you sure as shit can do that. Quantity has a quality all its own.
200k units with a million more on the way. Lama Su never specified when that million extra would be ready. Also, throwing troops and equipment in the meat grinder is stupid in any ocasion. The Galactic Republic wasn't the WWII USSR or the Imperial Japan to perform human wave attacks.
It's a stupid tactic, specially against a droid army, which can't be intimidated by the effect of large numbers or being forced to go on melee.
If anything such tactic would be more useful on the droid army side.

"Attack those federation starships, quickly!"
Kudos to George Lucas in achieving the campy B-movie style he was apparently aiming for.
The minimalism is just unreal.
Sometimes I think star wars is more of a comedy than anything else.
Not trying to roast or anything.
But it's just too hilarious.

There was only a small amount of time between the Jedi Council discovering the existence of the clone army and mounting an invasion so I always assumed it was a desperate attempt to swarm the separatists with no forward planning or knowledge of the terrain. It was a Klendathu moment for the republic.
The second battle of Geonosis demonstrates how the republic learned from it's previous mistakes. Among other things, they brought flamethrowers to deal with the bugs.

Now that is a serious attempt to give some real explanation, something that would make sense. Too bad it wasn't included in the movie. Like some scene in the temple after the battle.
Instead that senseless "Clone War has begun" (what fucking clone wars you gretchin? It wasn't a war caused by clones or against it, neither clones being used by both side. Yoda was really dumb sometimes) they should said something like
>Even if the battle was a unplanned chaotic event, the clones performance were indeed remarkable
Now some things that were terrible
>Aim above the fuel cells
Wait? Do you know the layout of Techo Union ships, Skywalker to the point of knowing where to strike and the exactly capabilities of those rockets against it?
>Attack those federation starships, quickly
Why? How those gunships would do shit against the core of a space carrier capable of resisting starfighter grade weaponry? Just because? What Obi-wan tried go achieve with that?
>Concentrate all your fire on the nearest starship
Genius, Yoda! Now you had a falling ship which caused a visible shockwave which should had pushed away all those artillery, troops and walkers away.

>haha he said sand how awful is this writing?
One, go back to reddit you fucking Muun; two, Anakin is an awkward yet cute and strong man that women love.
Consider how the man acts and what he does. One moment he flings himself off of a car to chase assassins without a second thought because he's brave and utterly confident in himself. The next he's completely out of his comfort zone trying to flirt but he's utterly sure this is what he wants. Women love that shit because they get a strong man out of this and the fucking rulership over the relationship. Not only that but last time she saw him he was a little child who managed to do an actually impossible feat twice; win a podrace as a human, and take out a Trade Federation Lucrehulk singlehandedly with a just starfighter. These two feats saved her ass.
Now he's a fit, attractive man who's assigned to keep her safe and is even more badass than before, and he's trying to flirt with her. Simply add in the allure of the forbidden and you have romance. All this bullshit about sand being a dumb line is just that, bullshit. it works because it doesn't and it's perfectly in character too, as the Jedi don't exactly teach flirting 101 and he has no parental figure to go to for help.

For the most part, I agree. However, as underrated as the prequels are I think we occasionally overlook some of the genuine flaws in an effort to defend them against sperging redditors. The "sand" line is a bit stilted, but it's clear no one takes issue with that, as Padme's "I love the water" is equally stilted but completely ignored. If anything the plainness of the comment contributes to the air of awkwardness Anakin has about him. I think the problem comes in with Hayden Christensen's wooden performance. The written dialogue conveys that air of unsure innocence, but the way it's said is completely without the emotion that would make the awkward flirting seem passionate and genuine. Instead he sounds like–well, like he's reading script.

it's george directing him to be stiff you dingus. you literally just read the reason for why he comes off as autistic around padme and still go "agh the acting" and don't realize he's literally playing that shit up because it's what george wants.
only a moron says acting is bad. no, directing is bad. but is it bad directing if it fits the director's vision? no, it's them completing their objective. not every fucking scene has to be "here's looking at you, kid".
and again, remember that anakin is a jedi. emotions are not supposed to be present, and he's clearly doing his hardest to not let them get the best of him, as stated above he has no idea how scoring works.

At risk of getting into autistic pedantry, there's a difference between sounding deliberately awkward and just reading the script in a monotone. Maybe it's just a manner of preference, but I just couldn't empathize with Anakin feeling awkward and confused in that particular seen. To me, his tone just sounded bored.

I have to side with the Sheevposter. Hayden is actually a good actor. Problem is George wanted him to sound and act like that because its what he thought Anakin would sound like. I don't like it and I think it caused people to see Hayden in a bad light sadly, but at least he went in doing just as the director wanted.

I don't necessarily disagree, nor am I trying to belittle Christensen's acting talent. Just relaying my personal impressions after that scene. I do agree with you both that the issue is more in the script and what the directing called for and less in acting ability, since Christensen pulled off other scenes rather well.
