I like finding out about small techniques or skills, that are now obsolete, but are nevertheless interesting for there ingenuity.

In law-enforcement, this cord, called a hayanawa (早縄, lit. "Fast Rope"), was carried by constables who secreted the rope in a small bundle that fed cord from one end. This torinawa ("capture-rope") was coiled so that the cord would pay out from one end as the bundled cord was passed around the prisoner's body, neck and arms as he or she was tied. This was usually accomplished by one constable in the course of performing an arrest while the prisoner was actively resisting and had to be accomplished quickly.

On a similar line, the classic P-38 can opener. FREDs here in Oz.

The one I have is almost 20 years old, and has not once had any issues.

"Cool" in how it such a simple design, and yet out-performs every can opener out there.

Occupational, environmental protection face coverings are not mandatory, people wear them voluntarily.
